Update: I'm always forgetting how DD expresses the skills. I know it's 4 in 6, but I always forget and think it's roll low (1 to 4 on d6.) The Leech skills should be changed to match the DD Thief (3+ on d6.) Yep! Good stuff!

....The "banker" if you will. Ironically, the guy they always pick to track the wealth is the party thief. His name is Judas?

I like this. It's very "Savage Worlds-like" but I think this keeps things simple.

Yes, this got an exalt from me too! I like it because it's simple and relatively unadorned with tedium. These are a few of my favorite things.

I'd say "Terminal Space" may be a good reference for this as well. You can find the digest-sized booklet PDF and a lot of supplemental resources at the author's website here: worldofortix.blogspot.com/I haven't run any games using it yet, but I've read through it and am looking forward to giving it a whirl. Besides "Beholders in Space" is just too cool to ignore. :-)

Play the game in whatever way is "fun" to you and your mates. If you're doing that, you're doing it right! Amen, amen, & amen. Good sermon, Bro Cam! ;D

Just thought I'd mention that Marc Miller is currently shipping Traveller 5 books, cd's and flash drives. This first group is to the Kickstarter contributors and the members of the beta test group. The book is supposed to be available in your FLGS later this year. It doesn't appear you can order it direct from www.farfuture.net/ yet, but I suspect that you'll eventually be able to do that, too. My first, very brief description of T5 would be, very detailed, very "crunchy", very long (650+ pages) and more acronyms than you can shake a stick at! From what I see so far... If I ever get around to playing it again, I'll be back to the 3lbb's of Traveller.

Picked up some Star Ace, should be here soon. Anyone ever play Alternity? I got the Star Drive books and beginners Box set for cheap locally. It came out in 98' by TSR but was dumped in 2000 when d20 came out. A quick glance seems like an easy system to learn, no 10 sided dice though - weird. Never played Alternity, I bought a "like new" boxed set. I guess a "starter set" since none of the books were complete. (Much like the D&D set of the same ilk about that time). I never played it. Read the books and thought it sounded interesting. Yeah, initially, since this one came with some horrible cheap yellow dice, I thought the d10 was missing until I read the rule books. I'm guessing that was the way to stay original. lol. Somebody's done conversions of the SF, Traveller, and Alternity races for X-plorers.

...and don't forget Vulcan people. Anyone ever tried to mix the two? That might be fun... Mix the two? Do you mean SF and SA? I was working on creating conversions of SA races to SF then completely lost interest. Well, actually, now that I remember it. Larry Moore and I started working together on a more expansive Savage Worlds conversion of SF based originally on Greg Bruni's work, and I was just going to Savage the StarAce as well... then I lost interest. About that time, we started talking about a rules-light system that would fit into a box the size of a deck of cards... the genesis of BareBones Fantasy. He's gone a long way with that since then and I'm very impressed with his results. ...so all that to say, "yeah, well no, but yeah."

Is that how it(Star Ace) comes off, or are their mechanics to support that(Campy/pulp feel). The reason I put it that way, I read a review of CHILL from a person who has never played it and they described it that way. Compared it to Campy Horror films like "Hammer Films". Do people get that impression because of the Holloway Artwork(my guess) or is it mechanical or is it compared to cultists sacrificing babies to the Old Ones? The mechanics are the same as CHILL, and I think Holloway artwork gives it that Impression too. (cat people, bear people..) Attachments:

Good stuff. Are you headed to Origins or Gencon this year? Also, have you ever played Star Ace, if so, what is the whole premise/setting of that game. Is it designed as a pulp style sci-fi or could you get gritty with it? I have never even held a copy. ... Star Ace is extremely pulp/campy sci fi. Much more "Star Frontiers" than "Traveller." Actually, maybe even more campy than Star Frontiers.

I started a Google+ CHILL community. plus.google.com/communities/115176295146936013960Many old TSR guys developed this old game with Holloway art throughout. This clearly was MY favorite in this genre. I still play it, one-offs with my current group and a campaign on-going with my kids. I plan on posting plenty of old material and eventually some Actual Play recordings of our sessions. I discovered the google communities Gang Busters, Boot Hill and Top Secret from this forum, so I thought this would be a good place to CHILL. You know I have complete or almost complete collections of the Pacesetters box sets and modules for "Star Ace" and "TimeMasters" (TimeMasters is now owned by Goblinoid Games) which all use the same mechanics, but I've never owned any of the "Chill" game... I'd be interested in joining the Community and exploring! Exalt!

Caroline, I'm not quite sure what you are asking, so maybe a couple questions here. Are you speaking of rule books? Hard back books? Boxed set? Many of these books can be found on eBay, Amazon, used book stores, etc. A little more specific, perhaps we can steer you to some sources.
The second request, I can't help you with unfortunately. I haven't played many video games since we got rid of the Comm64. I've always preferred tabletop. :-)

The free rules can be found here web.295.ca/danabbott/fleet.htmlHe also has an expanded pay version. There are many Star Trek/Star Wars/etc conversions on the web. The rules are simple, the ship cards are elegant, and it plays quickly. I like the progressive damage system. Since it is easy to build super ships, the scenario designer needs to decide how the ships in its universe operates, then put their own constraints on Here is a sample Traveller conversion home.comcast.net/~steveosmanski/traveller-ASFoS.htmlI'm going to echo Kesh here, EXALT! Looks cool! (I'll have to PDF this, I hate referencing websites)

An update about "Perilous Mazes": After some recent discussion with John and Simon, I've decided that what I am working on will be released as an independent OGL Holmes expansion rather than as part of the "Delving Deeper" line. It will be short (~40 pages) and reference table heavy in the manner of the JG Ready Ref sheets. As "Perilous Mazes" was not a title of my own, the working title is now "Holmes Ref". It will serve as a Holmes expansion, which I hope will re-released on pdf soon, or be usable on it own if you already familiar with the game, much as you can mostly play OD&D using just the Ready Ref sheets. It will also still be generally usable as a supplement to play Delving Deeper (or OD&D) in Holmes-like fashion, but won't make specific reference to it. I actually won't have to make a huge change to the text, as from the start I used my own words and tables rather than those of Delving Deeper, and just had references pointing to Delving Deeper for fuller descriptions of certain material. I did this with the goal of keeping it interesting (hopefully) to readers who already have Delving Deeper, but as a result it is missing a lot of specific features that make "Delving Deeper" what it is. I talked to John on the phone about this on Saturday, after sending him a draft of what I have right now, and he is fine with it. He is still planning to provide a hard copy of what I'm working on to the purchasers of his boxed set. I'm expecting it will still take me at least a month or two more of work to finish. I have about 34 pages of content right now and the remaining work is to mostly finish up particular tables. As a preview of the format, one page of Holmes Ref will include the One Hit Point Monsters sheet that I've released previously. I'm fine with this! I assume we'll get the PDF before we get the printed edition? Looking forward to it!

The more I read the on-topic conversations in this thread the more I'm liking this elf/cleric idea. Of course, it almost seems more druidic than cleric, but assuming the 3 original classes/races and leaving out any real-world religious connotations, I like that Tolkien-ish flavor to it. Make no mistake, I love Tolkien's writings and his MiddleEarth and have since the late 70's, early 80's. I had read the Hobbit before I had ever discovered that beautiful red box in 1981. :-) So this, resonates with me. I may have to offer up some of the ideas to my players!

How would those who play these games compare them to "Fight in the Skies" (or Dawn Patrol)? FitS seems to capture the tridee element reasonably well. A couple months ago, I re-purchased a like-new Dawn Patrol box. Everything in new condition minus the original shrink-wrap. Anyhow, I've sat down to play it several times since I hadn't played in 30 or so years and still haven't got my head wrapped around it again. I wish there was someone around that had interest in playing it. I think it was a heck of a lot of fun back in the day!

Balance be d**ned, we use a "mostly" freeform approach, but slow.... 3-4 sessions per level. Primarily because neither I nor my players care for all of the accounting.
But again, it's your game, do what you want to do to enjoy it!

Tell me more about that little screen you've created/inserted. I've been unable to find the original that I used to make that little screen, but I'm pretty sure it was some JG charts copied and pasted into LibreOffice. If I find it, I'll PM you.
