Yeah, I think talking about inflation is a bit of a red herring. They can sell the books for $150 because that's clearly what the market will bear. People are buying these books in far from collectable conditions for far more than $150.

They haven't put out or announced low-priced versions of the other books yet (1e for example), so it's not clear that will ever happen yet. Hopefully they put out PDFs are the very least.
The books are expensive, but if you want to get a set of OD&D books you aren't going to get anything for less than $150. Even seriously beat up collections are going to cost upwards of $200, nevermind being gauged on shipping by eBay sellers if you live outside of the US.

Can we plot people's pre-orders vs. when things were shipped to them in order to extrapolate when the rest of us will get our boxes?

No I think you're right. They've said the play test packets are there to test out new ideas. New character classes have popped in and out of packets, new ways to handle spell casting, etc. I think they've more or less settled on their 'core' rules. That stuff doesn't seem to fluctuate much.

In the week since I bought B1, T1, and C1 they have each been updated. (I'm not sure what they've changed though.) So it seems like they are working on the PDFs.

That Japanese whiskey is excellent. They have a 16 year old variant that's really good as well.
I think my favourite scotch is Talisker's 18 Years

I grabbed C1 and T1. The PDFs are much nicer than what they had put out before, but they are still scans of really old books. Apparently everything from 2e on is produced using digital files. The site is slammed right now. It's barely responsive. I guess there is more demand then they thought for this stuff.

Nope. I ordered last year though, which I thought was early, but is apparently nothing compared to some people's pre-orders. Hah.

I'll second Anomalous Subsurface Environment and Barrowmaze. (I really love ASE.)
Original Edition Delta: Book of War is cool mass combat rules.
Towers of Krshal is a strange (very small/terse) supplement about a city. It's weird.

The generator will now generate Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings. (It wouldn't pick them as playable races before.) The distribution is about 80% / 20% between the 4 Human classes and the 3 Demi-Human classes. (75% / 25% if you use the Little Brown Books generator that doesn't include the Thief as a playable class.)

He's only sent out two of the illustrated PDFs. I'm guessing it will be a little while still.

Another option would be to drop that entry from the features table after you've rolled it up once or twice. (So that entry would become "Travellers" from then on for the hex.)

I actually finally got to play using the "roll all the dice" mechanic on the weekend, and it's actually strangely satisfying rolling everything. I think the actual numbers are less interesting than the fact you're rolling a ton of dice.

I'm pretty sure it's Swords and Spells. As I understand it, it's an update to the Chainmail rules. You can find lots of information about this sort of stuff on The Acaeum.

I found the opposite true. I had such a hard time wrapping my head around like d6 for every weapon, fewer classes and I read quite a few posts and blogs on the various aspects of it. S&W offered optional rules which I didn't get at all. I prefer the terseness of Delving Deeper as well, don't get me wrong. Delving Deeper barely has any optional rules, and doesn't discuss any alternatives to the rules that came in later games. Devling Deeper's presentation makes the rule set a bit more coherent, and thats why I thought it'd be a good book for beginners. The problem here is, I know how to play D&D, so its hard for me to look at the rules and really be objective about that sort of thing. (I should ask my wife to read them and see if she can figure out 'enough' of the game.) Sword and Wizardry has all these tangents. I think seeing where rules diverge at least highlights things that people consider contentious, or too simple. (For example, the prevalence of D6 for everything, descending AC, etc.) That's interesting for someone who is curious about the game as a thing, but probably not useful for someone who wants to learn how to play D&D. Thanks for being the 6th person to read my blog.

I've been trying to build something to generate carcosa hex descriptions. Right now it's probably only useful for generating settlements and spawns. I was curious to see if people had any ideas on how to build up a collection of 'weird' entries. I was also wondering if there are other types of entries I've neglected. I split things up as: settlements, spawns, random monster, "weird". Any other feedback on the site would be appreciated.

There's actually table at the start of the first book that explains how to generate the various distributions used. This seems like a strange thing to get worked up about, either way.

They are trying to fund it again. The author and the artist are doing it by themselves now. It's already reached the initial goal, so the product is happening. They are trying to fund extra stuffs now.
