Now, I'm starting to get my head around the publication history of OD&D, but one thing still has me stymied - what is the ninth booklet in the forum banner pic? The yellow one after Eldritch Wizardry?

I'm pretty sure it's Swords and Spells. As I understand it, it's an update to the Chainmail rules. You can find lots of information about this sort of stuff on The Acaeum.

Oh, right, thanks funkaoshi. Looks like that's what it is, all right.

Correct. Swords & Spells is an "update" to Chainmail. I've owned a copy since it was a new publication "back in the day" and have found almost zero use for it. Some like the book and some think it to be canon enough to call it "Supplement V", but I just found it to be a little strange. Actually, I may have two copies.

Swords and spells allows for some pretty quick battles and scales okay. Its more of a D&D focused replaement for chainmail than it is an update, there's a whole lot fro chainmail that doesn't get into swords and spells.

Yeah, I have to say as a devoted miniatures gamer that Swords & Spells bites the wax tadpole.
