Congrats. Still one of my favourite settings, and easily the best campaign I ran was set in Carcosa!

The way I have interpreted (and programmed) things, I had treated all the OD&D derived systems as race-as-class. It’s the year of OD&D so I should re-read Delving Deeper and the little brown books and review my code.

I'm confused about how that would work: I think of Delving Deeper (and OD&D) as race-as-class, so you are a thief or a dwarf. I should double check that the XP progression / saves are correct as well.

Sorry, I don't check this forum near as often as I should! I think I left the thief out because I don't think you need them as a character class. I will find some time and add them as an option. It shouldn't be pretty easy, I think. People can just ignore them if they don't want to include them.

Any plans to put these out as PDFs in the future?

Seriously? That price is crazy. I figured lulu had a printer in Canada. Is lulu solely a U. S. outfit? I do not have immediate plans for PDFs, but if my international customers are getting socked that badly, I will need to reconsider. I think they do print in Canada now, but shipping is still $15 for the 4 books. The Canadian dollar is also pretty weak, but there isn't much you can do about that. (Sometimes Lulu has crazy coupon codes, so I may wait for one of those.)

Do you think you'll do PDFs in the near future? Even with the discount code your books end up being $68CAD once you add in shipping. (I'd rather mail you money then Lulu.)

What a surprise. I'm really looking forward to these. Dion played in my (now on hiatus) Carcosa campaign. His maps of Carcosa are amazing.

They have scans on Chainmail. I think it was on sale a long time ago. The same as the old scans of OD&D. What they re-released was the OD&D booklets they re-typeset. (That's why they look so good/sharp, compared to the other PDFs that are from scans.) I presume they'll release Chainmail eventually, but it's probably not very high up on their list. I wonder if they have a copy of the source material to re-scan, even. Ha.

I am pretty excited for these new films. The three trailers all seem so perfectly engineered. The music from the original films seems to show up just at the right time. Can't wait.

It's my favourite retro clone. The adventures are really what make it "weird". The game itself is a pretty nice version of a B/X style D&D game. The art is pretty awesome, also, and yeah, part of what makes it "weird".

Also, seems like it would be straight forward to work "failing forward" into OD&D. (Even for combat, though seems like that'd be a more drastic change.)

The way we usually play, the cost associated with failure is usually time. So you can search for the door again and again, but there is a wondering monster check to be had, maybe your torch will go out, etc.

I switched the ascending AC a while ago as well. I agree looking stuff up on a table is easy peasy, but it's also another table you need to have laying around. ( I put all the tables I use on my blog a while ago.) "If your players have any idea what AC or the hit tables are, you're not playing OD&D." I think the youths would say, "LOL WUT."

My current thinking is that "gold" is ancient super hardy metal or plastic coinage from some bygone era. So it all looks pristine and new, most Carcosans don't have the tech to mint new coins or mess with the old ones. So they are a good hard to counterfeit common currency.

My copy arrived. So that's that. Based on my G+ stream it seems like they are showing up here and there.

With Noble Knight you are paying to buy something from a seller you know is reputable. Presumably they price things high based on their availability and people's interest. LotFP prices seem bonkers, but people want that stuff, apparently.

Agreed. I assumed nothing was happening with this Kickstarter.

A while ago I did "He-Man" themed encounters for Carcosa, one of which was Queen Marlena and her crashed space ship. ("A beautiful young woman, an astronaut from Earth, lays wounded in a recently crashed spacecraft. The ship is damaged beyond repair.")

My copy came before the Christmas holidays. Looking forward to fhe second issue. It's worth $10 for the Jason Sholtis cover, never mind anything else. You can frame it and call it a day. The new content for Tékumel is great, and it's all for the first boxed set edition of the game. It even uses the same numbering scheme when discussing new rules.

This is really great. I need to write up a review. I'd definetly switch to this system the next time I run a straight up OD&D game. The spells are way more interesting.

Here are the session recaps for the last two Carcosa games I ran, presented as hex descriptions from the book alone with some example descriptions you can use to "restock" the hex. (The last description is what actually happened in the session.) I did this a while ago after one of my friends ran a one-shot, though I don't recall if I shared that post here at the time.

I actually haven't tried generating a hex this detailed yet for my campaign. I just borrow bits and pieces. I normally do use those icons though, yeah. (The ones from the B/X books.)

I've started up a Carcosa campaign recently. I'll start posting more about it on my blog. (You can see the posts I have about Carcosa so far over here: #carcosa.) Right now there is probably more discussion about the game on G+, in this community I made to organize things. (I am playing virtually with people using Google Hangouts.)
