Vice Galaxian Pipsy Smallbowls - Neutral Halfling Spacer
Strength 8 Constitution 9 Dexterity 10 Intelligence 13 Wisdom 9 Charisma 12 Technology 13
Speaks: Olde Imperial, Spacer's Cant, Gnomish, and Hobgoblin Dough: 510gp
Equipment: 20 supply points (cost: 100gp, weight: 20lbs.), Void Suit, 2x monoknife, laser pistol
Dragooned into a Barbarian fleet as an adolescent, Pipsy stayed long enough to learn his trade, but never saw any action. A nav error resulted in most of the fleet jumping into a black hole - Pipsy headed back to (relatively) civilized space and is now trying to go (relatively) legit. Member of the Spacing Guild in contested standing (he's missed payments in the past), currently leasing a courier ship he's named "The Pirate's Shame" (refuses to discuss the meaning of the name). While piloting his ship, gets pissed off if not addressed by his honorific.

In! And please use any of the ideas from the adventure I wrote, if there are any of them that aren't completely lame.
Looking forward to this, but my daughter just woke up... I'll review the other threads and get started in a little while.

Anyone know when ultravision entered the D&D lexicon? Was it available to any of the standard PC races, or just Drow and the like?
I'm building a lotus grow operation, and need to know if Dwarves and Elves will be able to distinguish black lotus from blue or green under UV conditions, without special eyewear...

I would be fond of writing something, but I need an editor to translate from snorrenglish to real english. And I know how difficult it seems to be Hey snorri, I'd be happy to make a pass on your stuff. If you want to take a look at my style (or lack thereof), I did the "Ten Dooms..." article in Fight On! #9 pp.52-57. Email me at chris.m.robert@gmail.com if you're interested.

There's a great little article tucked into the middle of the issue - 'Post Apocalyptic Crafting' by Lawson Reilly. Really snappy rules for getting the players invested in making items (to use or to sell), and allows characters to be tricked out without inflating their stats or ladling on improbable gear. The title might make GMs who run strictly fantasy games skip by, but the rules can be adapted to fit any milieu. I like house rules that give the players index cards to dick around with!
Sweet article that I thought needed to be highlighted. More Reilly inspirations in future issues, I hope?

I've also seen the flowchart concept, and I've used it myself as a development tool when designing traditional dungeons. It seems like a good compromise between the other two techniques.

I have also been intrigued lately with finding an appealing way to make dungeons more abstract, in the way that wilderness sandbox maps are abstract. I basically want to make a dungeon hexmap, with different dungeon 'terrain'.
Above ground you have forest hexes, mountain hexes, plains hexes, swamp hexes, etc. Below ground, there could be twisty caverns hexes, maze-y passageways hexes, lots o' rooms hexes, etc. Each terrain type has rules for generating encounters, traps, travel time, getting lost, unique encounters, i.e. twisty caverns use their own random encounter table, take 6 hours to traverse, and each one has a 10% chance of containing the Black Dragon's Lair.
Entering a hex gives players a peek at the terrain in the surrounding hexes: "Ah, let's continue to head north - the next hex is maze-y passageways, which might contain the Wizard's Library." Rumors could give players a glimpse several hexes ahead: "The goblins say that the Old Dwarven Workshop is in the lots o' rooms hexes to the east." Leaving certain hexes might require some accomplishments - find three secret doors and the hidden map, kill 30+ kobolds, etc.
I just want to replicate the the above-ground sandbox experience for dungeons - abstract icon-based mapping, with points of interest that have more detailed maps. I'm tired of indulging the need to specify every single room, passage, and doorway...

I got Supp. III, my first and only LBB, sometime in the early '80s, from Vans Hobby Shop, in San Jose CA. They mostly sold models, trains, and arts & crafts supplies, but they had a little rack on the front counter that had D&D stuff. I also got Salt Marsh, Silver Princess, and a couple others from that little rack.
My Supp. III is a little embarrassing to look at now. First thing my 11-year-old self did was to draw pubic hair and nipples on all the naked chicks.

I'll have some more thoughts once I've had a chance to get into it...

Hey, I just finished up a little sandbox/sector map for the super-awesome Terminal Space supplement. It probably also works for anything that peanutbutter-and-chocolate's outer space with D&D monsters. Not sure if my vision jives with what other people have in mind for Terminal Space, or what Albert intended, but it all just sort of came to me. www.mediafire.com/?ydzihhmjzlyLet me know if there's a problem with the link. Hope you guys like it!

Kesher, Nice work on the saucer! This is actually for an article I have written, and the saucer in question is crashed deep within the Icy Wastes of CARCOSA. If you haven't already finished and don't mind indulging a request, could you adjust the top of the saucer a bit? Instead of the broad, shaded cap at the top, could you do a smaller turret instead? Either a plain turret, or one with two appropriately Space Alien-looking beam weapons emerging... whatever you think looks better. If you can't do it, no problem - looks fantastic already! Ah, cool. I loves me some precise detail! I will indeed use the undo button also known as my eraser, and rework the top, no problem. Beam weapons coming up... In case more detail helps the creative process, the weapons are a "microwave pulse bazooka" and an "insanity beam".

Anyone play BTRC's game Timelords back in the day (late '80s - early '90s)? Your character was actually you, and it had all kinds of formulas for you to determine your in-game stats and skills. Never got around to playing it, but I must have statted myself up a dozen times...

I like that magazine idea! I'm wrapping up a set of ten brief encounters for the Icy Wastes that I was planning on submitting to Fight On!, but I have other ideas as well that I would love to get out there.
Quarterly might be a bit ambitious (isn't Fight On! quarterly?), unless we can convince Geoff to contribute some tidbits from his campaign to each issue. My 'Strange Sights of the Doomed World CARCOSA' freebie is at 278 downloads, perhaps that can be used as a measure to gauge interest - I only spammed three forums with the link.
CARCOSA inspired my renewed interest in gaming, and quite a bit of creativity at a time when I am looking to explore that kind of activity, so I'd love to keep at it in any capacity.

I first ran across Orion's Arm several years ago - it came up in a Google search when I was jonesing for a ship-to-ship space combat game. Very fun site, and you can lose several hours reading up on the 10,000+ year history of wars, rivalries, empires risen and fallen, etc. that they have created. I check it a couple times a month to browse the new articles.
I'd be stoked to be a part of a fantasy version.
