Anyone know when ultravision entered the D&D lexicon? Was it available to any of the standard PC races, or just Drow and the like?
I'm building a lotus grow operation, and need to know if Dwarves and Elves will be able to distinguish black lotus from blue or green under UV conditions, without special eyewear...

The earliest reference to Ultravision I know of is the the AD&D Player's Handbook.
Does anybody have anything earlier? Monster Manual, maybe?

It may be worth checking D3 to see if the daemons are listed as having ultravision or not.

The daemons in D3 can see into the ultraviolet, but their ability to do so is not explicitly described as "ultravision." I don't believe that precise term is found before the PHB, though it's possible I simply missed its use before then.

Okay, thanks guys. I'll crack open the PHB and take a look.

ultravision always seemed like an orphaned idea. Back in our youthful campaigns, we switched Elves to having ultravision, with only the true subterranean races having infravision. It seemed to make more sense, although the players whined at first.
I'd probably do the same thing now, but I don't use elves anymore.
