Isn't this essentially how T&T resolves? Opposing dice determines initiative, hits, and damage? I haven't actually played it yet, but have read through the rules a few times.

I'm still working on doing some DD Reference sheets, ala OCE White box. Also some small DD adventures and a Chainmnail/BoW reference or conversion guide for DD mass battles. I've finally heard back from Daniel Collins and may have some assistance/support for a BoW compilation. His major concern is keeping it OGL compliant, which shouldn't be an issue if we stay with DD and not try to speak in OD&D terms...
For "Chainmail" like mass battles, I may stick closer to Jason Vey's excellent "Spellcraft & Swordplay" system. The more I read it, the more I love it. Good integration of Chainmail/OD&D.
The reference sheets would make a referee screen relatively simple. (sans art) T'would be lovely to have some licensed art from the DD boxed set for an official Screen. Though I personally find myself using screens less and less.
As for progress on these projects, my hard-drive went bad on my Linux laptop, so my tablet has been insufficient to complete the task. (thank God for an upgraded Dropbox account, so nothing lost!) My MacBook Pro has been relegated to the other 3 members of my family for now.
All that to say, I'm also working on DD material, Simon, we'll be in touch to see if anything I produce would be something you'd like Immersive Ink to represent.
Some of the adventures I'm working on are pedagogical in nature and would be designed to use with kids. I'm using a lot of riddles, and thought provoking wonder for character-building efforts. (honor, integrity, positive motivation, team-work, etc.) These adventure modules will be a longer work in progress with much play-testing, etc.
...then there's my initial work on using DISC personality profiles and understanding to integrate learning on what makes people/characters different and how the interaction plays itself out. Much more "role play" than roll-play for sure....
2013 also starts out with me taking the helm of a start-up management consulting firm as VP of Operations, so my mileage may vary on how much I can successfully complete. The neat twist of events is that the Pres/CEO is also a D&D player. Funny how that came out in the interview...

For me it's a combination of all of those, depends on the time constraints, players, serendipity of life, etc. I do like random generators every now again just to help me think of something fresh. I'm never a slave to it, but look for something to click. There are many times, that just looking at the pictures in a publish RPG will flood my mind with all sorts of ideas.
I may also guess that 4 out of 5 DM's come up with a lot of their ideas while taking a dump. (BM DM's)

This is excellent. You know, with just this barebones structure of hooks and events -- throw in a little imagination and seat-of-the-pants game mastering -- and you could run weeks of memorable game play. I like it. I totally agree, this is good stuff. More!

The thing that bugs me about a Luck attribute is that the dice rolls throughout the game are already a factor of actual luck. It seems redundant to try adding it in again. That is indeed true. Strangely never thought of it that way. Perhaps, I've always just thought of it as a "bennie" roll, such as "one more chance to save your ass" roll.

I think both reaction rolls and morale rolls I had overlooked for years until playing Chainmail and seeing the powerful effect of morale in a battle. Now I often do either check depending on circumstances. Makes for some fun twists. Like Cameron said, it gives the DM a bit of fun too.

Make that "giant" badgers... At this early AM hour, I twice read that as "gnomish knights riding gang bangers." Probably time to go back to bed.... :-)

Has ANYBODY else in this board received theirs yet? I'm running a demo game at a local game store tonight, and one of my players (not on this board) ordered one too and has be en getting anxious.

Robert, I read through the Blackmarsh booklet the other night for the first time. Great stuff. I'll likely integrate it into some of our wilderness adventures and give the campaign a grander scale. Exalt to you!

Well alrighty then. Last night I scanned and OCR'd my (supposed) 7th print of M&M. In coming days and weeks in will (painstakingly) verify and correct the numerous OCR artifacts and errors. Then I will be in a position (with the help of software diff tools) to compare the (supposed) 7th print M&M word for word, character for character with the 6th print of M&M which I have scanned, OCR'd, and verified previously. I'll report back if I find anything worthwhile... You're a trooper, Simon. (or a raving maniac)

For those of you, like myself, that love to "tweak things," and have purchased the Delving Deeper Boxed set w/corresponding PDF's, I've created covers for them that color the titles so you can make a custom set. I'll print mine on 100# ivory cover stock. That'll give them a "5lbb" look. Here's the Dropbox link: www.dropbox.com/sh/pfcibfdyyiarw9u/lvdCZA1EOMI made these previously for the 3 free no-art DD booklets: www.dropbox.com/sh/g6d4h37j2fy3bzs/vtawPAsZSfEnjoy! Attachments:

My 3lbb's OCE White box doesn't indicate which printing it is, my Supp I is 10th, Supp II is 8th, Supp III is 7th. My guess is the OCE is 6th print.

I think that most D&D players will tell you that out of the five best sessions they ever played, at least one didn't include any combat. I'll ditto that. Definitely has been my experience over the years and even the experience of now gaming with kids in every session. It's neat to see the older more experienced guide the less long-in-the-gaming-tooth.

I've often thought of adding the T&T Luck attribute and doing away with saving throws. Modifiers to luck would apply instead of saving throws.

Not exactly what you are talking about, but one of my favorite tricks is to provide characters will spell lists but no spell descriptions. When they ask "what does spell X do?" my reply is often "what does it sound like it does?" and players tend to brainstorm new and innovative ways to use the spell. And as you noted, it's the newbies that often have the best inspiration because they aren't hampered by "knowing" what the spell is "supposed" to be used for. I think that combat is more complex an issue because it's more simple an action. My games tend to be roll, damage, roll, damage kinds of combats. I suppose one thing to do would be to try something like the "deed dice" in the DCC RPG where characters can try cool actions from swashbuckler movies and have a chance for "out of the box" actions to work. This might encouarge players to come up with new innovations in combat like throwing sand in the face of the monster, or whatever. I think you have a much better chance of pulling this stuff off in OD&D than you do in more rules-structured games like AD&D. AD&D tries to define everything, but OD&D games are designed for the GM to "wing it" (a la stat checks, etc.) and so you tend to get more creative thinking. Just my two coppers. Marv, bingo! I love this type of thing, because it really brings out the "role play" aspect and of course, kids love it. There are times when I scale things back and let the rules speak for themselves as guidelines, but overall, this helps get them out of the rut of.. "I swing... I swing again!" This was also something whimsical I've always loved about the T&T spell names!

Hey ways! Are there any guidelines for putting stuff out for the community? I have some stuff I could share eventually. Meaning, is something uploaded as PDF good enough? Is there a form like on DF? Also, thanks for the response and thread to discuss it. Simon, I also am planning on releasing/publishing stuff to support DD. Actually, my two sons have their hands in it too. So any guidelines would be helpful.

The three adventures are not shipping with the initial box shipment. Five rule booklets, pad of character sheets, and the Blackmarsh booklet. The other booklets and dice will come later in a 2nd shipment.

I would say that The Hobbit, met or exceeded my expectations. We saw it on Christmas Eve in 3D HFR, and quite frankly, I'm not sure what all the hullabaloo is about regarding the HFR. The movie was fun, at times disappointing, but other times breathtaking and a lot of fun. I plan to see it again, but it won't be in 3D-HFR.

I'm thinking the Mighty Marv Finarvin would be the best picker. :-) But, talking in depth about BoW in this thread wouldn't be inappropriate. Perhaps, we could rename the thread "Mass Combat options for Delving Deeper" or something. ;-P

Wow I picked up Book of War and played my first game with my daughter today. I love this game! I would love to see more units available. Is there a forum for BoW discussion? I have a few rules questions also... Yes, we've had fun too! In fact, I plan to create my own Delving Deeper character sheets with a small area to put Chainmail and BoW stats. I haven't looked for or found a forum yet, but I have emailed the author, and haven't heard from him yet. Perhaps, at least a sub-forum is in order here!

...as it is, I'm sittng NEXT to my copy of BoW, and working on an option of randomly generating personality types to implement DISC behavioral profiles to PC generation and role-play. It may be of much use to m professionally, but we'll also see how it fares on the game table....
ADHD, is a wonderful distraction!
