Yeah, I like that last one too. I always print mine 1/2 sheet size. Two to a page. Wondering how crowded this may look. But either way, awesome!

It has been a while, but I am looking for a magic spell that allowed the caster to take a group with him (merge into one?) and then move around. Any that was merged was able to unmerge at any time. Have you tried the iTunes app store? :-D

In many ways, OD&D is an attitude more than a set of rules. I've had times when I have used my AD&D rulebooks for reference, other times C&C, or the Rules Cyclopedia, or my B/X books, or S&W Whitebox ... the exact rulebook doesn't really matter much to me and I mix monsters from one rules set with character options from another without much problem. The key is that most of the later rules sets have specific rules for more situations, so I just ignore a lot of that stuff. Basically, if I can't recall a rule during play I just "wing it" instead of slowing things down. That's the OD&D way! I'd say use whichever rules set you have handy and enjoy! Exactly where I'm coming from as well. There are times I pull stuff out of all kinds of systems. (at times, I ask the players opinion, at others.... over-rule!) Sometimes I use a standard deck of playing cards to manage initiative for large encounters (a la Savage Worlds), or I may throw some strange curve-ball from a different system, like giving them an exploding die rule (with limiting conditions). It's a game! Make it fun!

There's an OSRIC "Player's Handbook" created and available for PDF download. I just got it a week or so ago from RPG Drive-Thru. I'm not sure what the differences would be between OSRIC and 1e, but the OSRIC material does look a lot better organized at a glance. I haven't played 1e (or OSRIC for that matter) since the early 80's!

Right now, the boys and I are setting up toy soldiers on our "gaming table" to test/figure it all out.... looking forward to learning the"Original" OD&D style! Last night my 10yr old son and I played "jousting" by randomizing the offense/defense modes and simply rolled dice to determine our targets and defense stances. We both had a blast and finally figured out what to do with the toy mounted knights we had..... :-)

Firstly it's not "minus" 3 die. The minus isn't a "minus" it's an elipses. Ignore the "minus" sign. I JUST figured this out last night and it felt like cracking the Rosetta Stone... wish I read this topic earlier!!

you know, the crazy thing is that when I was young and first played b/x-1e back in the earlies 80's..... I NEVER had the opportunity to fight a dragon. Even funnier, then after taknig over as the default DM/GM in nearly every game.... dragons are always rarely encountered and never have I had the opporunity to run one! I'm going to need to fix this ASAP....

Fin, it's funny, I feel the same way as you're sounding.... thief or no thief? Alt combat or Chainmail? Alt combat+ Alt damage? ...or not? D6 damage and d6 HD's? LOL
Use Greyhawk or just 3lbb's? or Just 3lbb's w/Chainmail ...or should I use Blackmoor too?
It's all good. :-D

However, I've noticed often that the ones ending with "305" or such have another web promotion available without the "305" on the end. So, for example, both "SEPTEMBER305" and "SEPTEMBER" often both work separately. Usually, the 305's are email promotions. FWIW! :-)

While I have no immediate desire to work up a custom version of the 0e Reformat, I would like to see a .doc version released into the Underdark along with the PDF once you finish the re-edit. You never know when it will come in handy. For those of us who know howto find our way into those hallowed depths it would be very handy... On another note - I've seen the LBB and Holmes reformats, but has anyone done Greyhawk or Blackmoor? Is there a .doc version of those floating around as a resource for someone who wants to incorporate any of that into a single-volume reformat? There will be both doc, and PDF versions available. And if you keep raising your hand, he'll see you to get a Greyhawk.doc to you as soon as he wakes up!

By Crom! Kudos to you learned sage for this wonderful re-edit. Rather than re-doing it for minor nit-picks; any chance for a compiled 3LBB+Greyhawk document? If 'yea', I promise my sword-hand in it's service to initiate my son and nephews to it's riddle of steel, to have them thieve, reave and slay; to tread the jeweled thrones of my campaign world under their sandalled feet. ;D Also, exalt! Bycrom, ah you will be delighted!

I like having players that get engaged, play along with their party, try to think like their PC's, and have generally good table manners while having fun.
I don't like players that get distracted by their own "rule chases" while others are trying to play; people texting and/or using cell phones during games; those that don't pay attention in general and always need to be "caught-up" during their turn; side-bar conversations unrelated to game play; players that like to toss dice like there was an advantageous rule regarding distance or distraction level while throwing dice.

DD is a true clone to the same degree that OSRIC and LL is for their respective versions of D&D. DD clones the 3LB and not material from the supplements, which means we didn't have some of the problems you have spelled out in your original post Marv. ...and I'm SO glad I prepaid for a box set! :-D
