Robert will exit the car, and glance around to see how many people are nearby, if there are open businesses etc.

You stand on the sidewalk next to your car and look around (roll OBS). You are parked in front of Shannon's Grill. Agent BECK walks casually over to the trucks driver side door and is now out of view. You can hear BECK talking to the driver...
CB: "Bureau of Prohibition. How you doin? This is a Volstead inspection. I need to see what your haulin in the back of this truck. The cargo and tarp have the look of liquor cases and I have a reasonable suspicion that your are delivering bootleg. Could you step out and pull the tarp back, Sir?"

Obs: 57 roll = 51 Robert is listening closely to everything that happens with Beck and the driver. Brandon's Coffee and Shannon's Grill are both open with patrons entering and exiting... While you are listening to the conversation taking place out of view you notice that another "person" is in the passenger seat with his head twisted and slightly leaning over to look at you from cover... You hear the driver say D: "Ya, sure officer. No problem." Followed by the sound of the truck door squeaking open...then a loud BANG of a gunshot...

Robert pulls his gun, ducks behind the back of the truck. While squatting, He watches through the bottom of truck to see if he notices Beck go down, or either of the occupants of the truck exiting moving in either direction.

You dash to the back of the truck then drop to a squat. As you make your move a hand thrusts out of the passenger seat window of the truck holding an object. A loud BANG and a flash are seen as you reach safety behind cover. You glance under the truck to see Agent BECK lying on his back on the left side (driver side) of the vehicle. 2 feet and lower legs are seen standing there. The feet are pointed towards the rear where you are...

"I'll use the truck for cover if possible, lean around and shoot the person near the driver's seat. I'll shout toward the Grill to call the police."Agent HEFLIN is a right handed shooter. He will be partially exposed when firing (partial cover) But, the movement expose the gunman to "no cover." When you dart around (using cover) and point in the direction of the gunman, you see he is starting to approach the rear of the truck with his gun already pointed where you popped out... Ref: Roll for surprise (OBS check), then roll to hit. 45 cal. short range, no cover. Gunman rolls for OBS (OBS is 80 rolls 88...he is surprised and slightly recoils with shock...)

With the last round in my pistol I'll shoot the tire of the truck, hoping to prevent or hinder a get-away. Then, I'm going to run as fast as I can across the street and see if any of the buildings there are open in case the passenger wants to pursue me. Agi: 80 roll=39 You fire your last round into the right rear tire of the overloaded Ford Model T truck and immediately hear the sound of a tire blowing and the rush of air. The truck begins to drop to the rear right... You simultaneously while you run across the street. You turn and run exposing yourself to the drivers side of the truck and the rear. You are struck in the head as you start running...all you see is blackness... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You wake up on your back with a bright light in your face...you hear the sound of an unknown male voice saying "can you hear me Robert?" The light flashes back and forth across your eyes. You then hear him say. "I'm getting a response. I think he's coming out of it. I need to Finish up on my rounds. If he comes too, have a nurse contact me immediately." You then hear the sound of shoes on a hard floor. Your eyes are blurry and you struggle to focus. You look to the side of the bed and see a male sitting on a chair next to your bed. As you fight to focus you hear a voice, "Agent Heflin, It's me District Commissioner Antonelli. You have survived an ambush and have been shot. Don't worry, Agent. You are in the hospital and will be alright...

"d**n! That bastard was a good shot. Is Beck okay? He was shot first, and I didn't get to check him. Please tell me you got the guys. I wounded both of them, and took down their truck so they couldn't get away. I'm going to need to get some rest, but after that, I'm going to want some warrants once I get my evidence together. That shouldn't be a problem, right, boss? Thanks for checking on me. I really appreciate you taking the time to visit me here in the hospital and getting me the medical attention. I'm a little tired, right now. Do you mind if I rest?"
Robert will close his eyes and wait for any of the law enforcement folks to leave. After giving them time to get out of the room, Robert will ask the nurse to bring him a phone that he can use. Then he'll call Becky Flick.

DC Antonelli nods his head slightly then says DC:"Beck didn't make it. Now don't worry about anything. The Bureau will take care of your rent and medical expenses. You have been in a coma for almost a week. We have already had a funeral for Beck. Unfortunately, the gunman have gotten away. There is a file on the incident that is being looked at by the Bureau of Investigation. You can speak to them when you get back to work. I have put out a call to the Bureau for more Agents but they are not confident there will be a quick response. For now, our office will be even more understaffed." The DC then gets up to leave. He then adds "you are off for at least a month till you are able to work safely and effectively. When you get back, i'll have some new equipment waiting for you. The street thugs think they can shoot and kill my Agents and get away with it? Not while I am DC of this ward. I have ordered more firepower to even the score. We're gonna make them pay for this outrage. We'll find those responsible and bring them to justice, one way or the other. You take care." The DC pats you on the shoulder then exits the hospital room.
You then ask the nurse for a phone. The nurse says she will arrange to have one brought in. The nurse then says "you know, that gentleman was here everyday to see you. You also had two other visitors. A lady and another well dressed man..."

"Thanks nurse. I appreciate everyone who was kind enough to look in on me. That was nice of of the Deputy Commissioner to be so attentive. I'll remember that."
Robert will call Becky and ask if she can meet with him the next day at the hospital. He won't be able to work too much, but would like to talk to her.
Then he'll call Agent Bob of the Bureau of investigation and ask if he can come at some time prior to Becky's scheduled visit in order to go over some facts about what happened, and what's been happening.

Thursday, July 15, 1920, 10:00 AM, Chicago General Hospital
Thee nurse brings in a candlestick phone on a very long line. You telephone Becky FLICK and she answers immediately. Becky tells you that she has been in to see you and has written an article about the shooting and murder of a Prohibition Agent, Carl BECK. She agrees to come see you tomorrow at 9:00 AM.
You call the office of the Bureau of Investigation but the operator says there is no response. After you hang up the phone and the nurse takes it out of the room there is a knock at the door and then Agent Bob CLARK walks. He say's "Look who's on the mend!"

"Hey, Bob. Glad you're here. I'm going to be out of commission for quite a while. I was wondering if I could give you a little info for the case file, and then maybe take a loot at it myself while I'm resting. The first thing that I would like to ask is how these guys got away? Both of them were wounded, one severely, and the car had a flat tire, that I put a bullet in so they would be hampered in making a getaway. We need to talk to doctors, hospitals everything possible and find out what happened. The driver of that truck needs to be recovering close to as long I will be. One of the shots that flew at me from a .38 buried itself into a wooden crate on the truck. If we find a wooden crate with a .38 slug in it somewhere that could help lead us to these guys. Also this is just me doing some double checking, crossing the 't's and dotting the 'i's but I want to make sure Beck wasn't tipped off about the truck, and that we just found it by accident. Who all knew we were going out that day?
"So if you could just put that in the report, and let me have a look at it to see what's been going on and what's been said, I'd be really grateful. It's pretty much the only work I'm capable of for the next month.
"and thanks for coming to visit, Bob, I appreciate your concern."

Agent Bob CLARK smiles then say's BC: "way a head of you Robert. I've been assigned to the investigation by the Bureau of Investigation. My Boss, HOOVER, has requested we look into the shooting and murder of a Federal Agent. I have been on the case since you were brought into hospital. This is what I have so far...
Agent CLARK then produces a manila file from a accordion file folder with black and white photos.
Agent CLARK continues AC: "The truck was recovered at the scene. The license plates had been removed. At this time we don't know who owns it or who they were working for. The cargo was also missing but one or more bottles were broken so there was liquor (whisky) left in the truck bed so we believe they were bootleggers. There are no witnesses we could find at the scene. A 45 Cal Bullet was recovered from the right rear tire. I have canvassed the hospitals but no one with bullet wounds has been admitted as far as we can see. The business the truck was parked in front of was Shannon's Grill. Word on the street it's a speakeasy. I'll leave that to your expertise once you are back at work. I'll trace the truck and see if I can track down an owner and a business. We have all the bullets from you shooting. I have sent them to the science lab to study the ballistic fingerprint. It's new technique that may help to ID the gun of origin. We have also finger printed the inside of the truck cab and have produced some good specimens...

"Hiya Flick. Always nice to have visitors. Especially with that charming wit of yours. Listen, I was wondering if your paper or any of your competitors had any details on how the perps in this case got away? I guess they left the vehicle there, but both of these goons were wounded, and one was shot up nearly as badly as I was. I'm suspicious by nature, so I just want to know who helped these guys get away. I'm going to be out of commission for at least a month. So I can't do more than go over the file on this. But when I'm better, there's going to be hell to pay.
"Any news you had on it, would be welcome on my end."
