Its April 06, 1920 in the United States of America. You are an Irish immigrant living in the big city. You served in World War 1 and returned to your job on the docks only to find that it was no longer there. Living in a small rundown apartment alone you made the decision to get in on the growing bootlegging business that has risen up around you. You are going to get rich or die trying! This is America in the bloody 20's...

This is America in the bloody 20's... I contacted the Administrator to see if you can get a separate sub forum. A place to post characters and OC out-of-character comments and a third IC in-character thread for game play. You could also post pictures/maps in another visual aid thread. I'll have some character details up shortly. Looking forward to singing "o'Danny Boy" with a tommygun. Cheers!

I'd say the first step is to gauge interest and round up some players. If we get enough enthusiastic folks, I can set up a section for a game.

He's been recruiting on G+ GB community site. He expressed interest in a solo game if that's all who joins and I directed him here. You are right though, a formal, who's interested thread should go up here. I don't believe he wants to start right away, if the sub forum goes up first, we/he can use it to spark interest.

Hello All, I should be ready to start in a week. I will notify player(s) by e-mail and then begin. I will set the stage, provide any extra info/details to the generated characters, then let it begin. The rest will be history...or historical! Cheers GB ref

It's Tuesday, April 06, 2015 in the big city. 3 months after the start of prohibition. You and your cousin (Jimmy) are residing on the second floor of the Kenmore Hotel across the hall from each other. The 2 of you have only $10 to you name and presently, no employment. At 10 am you are sitting in a booth at your favorite coffee shop, Brandon's, at Church and Broad. Your cousin picks up the conversation during breakfast...
JB: all these guys are making big money selling booze. There's lots of dough to be made. They all need drivers, laborers and guards for shipments...we could get a job doing something like that! OR, we could go into business for ourselves...

JB: all these guys are making big money selling booze. There's lots of dough to be made. They all need drivers, laborers and guards for shipments...we could get a job doing something like that! OR, we could go into business for ourselves... Tom:[Looking into his wallet] "We need to start asking around, today. We need to find out exactly who's running things around here before we decide to do things ourselves. Let's split-up today and meet next door at Shannon's around 6:30 for dinner. I'll go down Broad. The pool hall, the tobacco shop, the Four Dueces, Pitzer's and then I'll check in at Harrigan's. You go down to Maxwell and back to Market. Use proper judgement, don't go trusting those Italians right off. Keep an eye open for easy pigeons, but no daytime grabs, wait for me to watch your back."[Tommy finishes his coffee and pays their check] As they depart, "Help Wanted" signs will work too. There's nothing wrong with some honest work until we get going. If you see any familiar faces out there, good people from your unit or mine, invite them to dinner. See ya tonight." With that, Tommy weaves through the crowd and crosses the street over to Angelo's.

11:00 am, Crossing the street you see the hustle and bustle of a busy weekday. Model T fords line the streets while smartly dressed people go to and from workplaces, shopping etc. 2 Uniformed policemen are seen walking the beat heading North on Broad Street on the West side. They look at get person going by looking for known individuals and wanted suspects. You see them move along the transient and loiterers.
You enter Angelo’s and find it quiet at this time of day. No apparent alcohol consumption. 2 males are seen playing pool and keeping to themselves. A bored male is behind the former bar reading a paper. He isn't very talkative...
At the Four Deuces you enter a small “cafe” that clearly operates as a “speakeasy.” A stocky Italian male with a scar on his face introduces himself as Al “Brown” but it most likely not his name. Al is fake polite and asks what can I get you when you approach the bar...everyone appears to be drinking either whisky or beer...

I'm looking for work.[looks over his shoulder at the booze being drank] I'm not afraid to do the dirty work. Just got back from the war. Plenty of dirt over there. I drive, know my way around the auto pretty well.[he writes down his address and call number] I'm staying over at the Kenmore. I appreciate anything you can do for me Al, even if it's just temporary." With that, Tommy adjusts his tie as he awaits a response with a gracious handshake prepared. Upon conclusion, he continues about his day hoping to make it back to Shannon's by 6:30.

AB: Tommy, eh? Yous Irish? Listen, you seem like a nice guy being a veteran an'all...let me do you a favour. You see this establishment is owned by Mr Torio and overseen by his associate, Mr Capone. You see, they don't have a habit of employing the Irish much. If your looking for work, you'd probably be better to look for a Mr. O'Banion. He's more to the South of here. I can't really say more then that. No offence, of course. Like I said, being a veteran an'all. Here (Al slides a shot of whisky over to you) this ones on the house. Al then walks away to tend the bar... (See interior of the four deuces on the GB blow up map.)

He heads back outside and reflects upon the conversation.... "O'Banion....O'Banion, alright." With some stride to his step, Tommy walks south past Goldstein's and Harshaw's. Inadvertently stopping at and looking east down an alley, Tommy's curiosity for un-watched autos gets the best of him. After a simple gaze, he'll move down Dutton Court.

While walking East along Dutton court you pause briefly while looking North to an alley leading to the back of some businesses with visible fire escapes to an adjoining apartment building. A model T ford stakebed truck is parked behind Hershaws Hardware & Lumber. 2 cars are parked at the far end. A lot of pedestrian traffic is coming and going from a door at the end of the alley. It definitely appears to be suspicious...

He'll go to the second floor and find the numbered apartments on that side of the building and precede to the corresponding mailbox in the main foyer. He writes the name of the tenant on the inside of a matchbook and then he goes back to the rear of Harshaw's. Once there, he'll slowly walk to the busy back door of the suspicious business as he softly mumbles to himself "Let's see what's going on back here?"

The door to the unknown location opens as you approach. On unknown male is seen exiting. He's wearing a business suit coat and hat. He moves quickly past you and only glances in your direction. Behind him you can see a pool table with a male holding a cue stick. As you get closer another male steps into the doorway and looks you in the eye. The male is wearing a pin striped suit, hat with polished shoes. He's Italian looking in his mid 20's. He's physically fit and sizable. He says "can I help you pal? You looking to place a bet?"

With an apologetic gesture, Tommy backs out and nicely claims, "Just wishful thinking, I'll be back around on payday". He then scampers away looking over both shoulders. Once he gets to Broad, he'll stroll down to Canal and cross. Outside Fanucci's Fruit stand, he'll linger a bit and finish a smoke, glancing all the while at the action coming and going from Harrigan's. Once he's sure Harrigan's looks somewhat Irish, he'll pop-in. Obsevation Tommy:1D100 → 98

You enter Harrigan's at around 615 pm. The "cafe" is has approx 25 patrons inside. There are booths long one wall, a couple of round tables near center, a large meeting table next to a sizable bar along the far wall. There are 8 males at the bar openly drinking beer from glass mugs. Shot glasses sit empty on tables and on the bar. The bartender, a stocky irish male in his early 30's is seen cleaning mugs and selling booze. Activity is lively and very open... When you walk in, no one looks up or pays you any mind. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Like prohibition never existed.

There's supposed to be opportunities in a city this big. If there are, they're not easy to find for an ex-soldier with my particular skill set." He waits for/gets his drink and raises a toast, "here's to a little Irish Luck."

A voice from the customers at the bar is heard to say "you'll be needing a drink if you think it's still morning!" A group of men then begin to laugh...the bartender slips a whisky shot over to you. He says "don't think i've see you in here before?" Tough out there, eh?"

Today, we split up and hit the streets looking for work, I hope he's having better luck than I[looks at his watch]. It took some time to find those dockworker jobs, we'll be in line at the mission if it takes that long again. Anyways, nice to taste the whiskey, I was worried them taking that away before I was worrying about them taking away my work. Guess there's always something weighing on ya."

Bartender listens sympathetically and appears genuine. He states "sorry to hear it, pal. Times can be tough. You know, this "cafe" is ownedby Mike Harrigan, the boss of City Ward 1. He might be able to point you in the right direction of a city job or something...you never know." "he's not here right now but will be in later." At that point he politely excuses himself to serve some customers down the bar. You then feel a pat on the right shoulder and turn to see your cousin James standing next To you. JB: You get a lead on anything? JB: People been pointing me the direction of a guy called the florist. Dean O'Banion. Apparently he runs a lot of "stuff" on the south side and might have work for a couple of "Irish" guys. We just gotta find out how to find him...

[Tommy waves for the bartender to set up a second glass for James] "I too was passed the name O'Banion." When the bartender serves the drink, Tommy will introduce James, "this is my cousin, let me ask you a question. We both were told to ask a Mr.O'Banion if he had any work, trouble is finding him. We're trustworthy guys, that's one thing we got. I understand the secrecy, the work we're willing to do may cross some lines....They've called him the Florist, the only flower shop around here is Nelson's on Maxwell. Are we hot or cold?" Tommy watches James enjoy the whiskey and smiles.

The bartender smiles, nods his head slightly, then indicates to hold on. He walks to the far end of the bar and quietly talks to an irish looking male in a sharp suit. The other male looks in your direction then whispers something back to the bartender. The bartender then walks back over and leans over to you. He says "if you'd like to talk to Mr. O'Banion, he's right next door. Velma's Restaurant. Far booth by the kitchen. Good luck." He then walks away to serve more customers...

They leave and walk around the corner and enter Velma's. Upon entering, Tommy prompts James to remove his hat and then they precede to the booths near the kitchen.

As you exit Harrigan's Jame stops you out front and says JB "listen, Tommy. I didn't survive the trenches to find myself taking orders form another officer of the regiment...I want to be my own man. In charge of my own destiny. I'll do what ever I have to do to make sure that happens..." (you are aware that your cousin lacks your personality, looks and communication skills, but he makes a good point)
When you enter Velma's Restaurant you find it still in the dinner rush hour. All the tables are full with customers and the staff are moving from table to table. A strong smell of beer and tobacco smoke is in the air. The lighting is bright as opposed to Harrigan's which you found to be a little dim.
2 men are sitting at the far booth near the kitchen. The male facing the door is in the midst of conversation with the other male not yet visible. 2 thug looking men stand near the booth watching the front door. They straighten up and lock eyes upon your entry. Both men are the size of your cousin, James. They are wearing 3 piece suits with fedoras, a typical look. Subtle touches to their suit jackets tell you they are armed...
