Beck FLICK laughs then says BF: "helped them? The local cops, that's who. They've got the precinct in their pocket. The cops probably bought them some time while they unloaded the booze and removed the wounded goons from the scene. Then they "investigated" the incident and passed it along to the Bureau of Investigation. My opinion is they removed as much evidence as possible before they turned it over to the Bureau. Just my opinion of course."

"Thanks, I'll be out of commission for a month or so. But I'm going to look at the report and make note of the cops that were on the scene. When I get back, I'll find out what I can about those guys, and also pick up where I left off on the still and delivery operations of Torrio's gang. It's doubtful I'll find anything useful while I'm healing, but if I do, I'll let you know, and I'll definitely let you know once I get ready to make some progress and arrests."
I'll spend the next few days resting and going over every detail of the case file. I'll call Bob, and mention that I believe the local police helped the perps get away and hid or destroyed most of the evidence before they turned it over. I'll mention that he may want to dig up any old files involving those same officers, and if he'd like he can bring them by. Since I have a lot of rest time ahead of me, I can help look over those files.

Beck FLICK responds BF: "I'll keep looking into things on my end. I got my guy working his way into the inside. We'll try and see if we can find where the truck came from. Find where it cam from, find the driver and passenger...i'll call you if I get a lead."
You call Agent CLARK, B.O.I. and pass on the information to him. Bob laughs and says BC: "no surprise there, Robert. There is a lot of corruption in local law enforcement. Oh, by the way, I've got a theory on the shooting. Agent BECK mas a habit of stopping suspicious vehicles believed to be involved in violations of the Volstead Act. He had an almost 95% interdiction rate. I'm thinking that there was someone or something in that particular truck that they didn't want to be found. This made it worth shooting at Federal Agents..."

A few weeks pass by in hospital before the doctor says you can be released. You return home on Sunday, August 15, 1920 at 10 AM. You are picked up by DC Antonelli who drives you home. He tells you that you are to take as much time as you need before returning to work. He also tells you that Agent John BURNS has taken leave over the death of his partner Carl BECK. The DC is not sure when he will be back. When you return to work, you'll be the only field agent the Bureau of Prohibition will have in the 1st Ward. If you require assistance, you can contact the Bureau of Investigation or the local Police...DC Antonelli then hands you your 45 Cal Semi Auto pistol, 5 loaded clips, your badge/ID, pocket sap, car and office keys...

"Thanks a lot commish. I'll be back at work in a day or two. There's a lot to be done. this place is a zoo."
Robert will go to his apartment, and phone Agent Bob, to find out if there's anything he should know before heading back to work. Then he'll call Flick and ask her the same thing.
If they don't have anything new he'll head into work the next morning.

Monday, August 16th, 1920 at 9 AM you enter the office of the Bureau of Prohibition. You find your desk neat and orderly like you left it. Agent BECKS desk has been cleaned off. Lying on your desk in front of the typewriter is an official memo from the DC. The memo tells you to attend the Bureau of Investigation office to meet with Agent Bob CLARK. Agent CLARK will be heading up the investigation into the murder and attempted murder of federal agents as requested by Washington...

I'll go to Beck's desk and search for any hidden compartments, notes, or anything left behind. Then I'll head over to Clark's office and attend the meeting. Ref: roll for OBS: You head over to the B.O.. office and meet with Agent CLARK. Agent CLARK is at his desk as usual typing and transcribing notes. When you enter he looks up with a smile then secures his notes, memos in a side drawer while removing a big manila file. and placing it on the desk. He say's AC: "we'll go over the file in a minute. come with me." He then walks to thee far end of the room to a closed door. He then say's AC: "You boss called my boss and requested some new fire power for the B.O.P. office. They arrived last week." Agent CLARK opens the door and shows you a small storage room. On a wall mounted gun rack there are 6 shotguns, 6 Thompson submachine guns, 6 rifles and 1 Browning Automatic rifle. There are clips and hundreds of rounds of ammo. Agent CLARK then say's AC: "what ever you need, just take it. Return it to the room when you are finished with it. Sign for everything you have. That's the policy. The shot guns are pound for pound heavy hitters but the Thompson's provide more coverage. The rifles are great for distance. Up to you!"

I'll sign out for a both a Thompson SMG and a Shotgun. "I'll choose other ones depending on the situation, but this will be a nice start. Thanks"Obs: 57 roll= 78 Ref: You find nothing in BECKS desk of interest. You take the Shotgun with 50 rounds and the Thompson with 2 loaded 50 round drums. Agent CLARK then informs you that you are now partners until this murder and attempted murder has been solved. He hands you the file and say's. BC: "take a look through this. Not much more info. since we last spoke. But, there is an informant of the street who apparently has something for us. We need to pop by and have a chat. I got eyes and ears on the street looking for anything of interest. Now you're back, I figure we should jump right into it. What do you think?"

"Sounds great, Clark. Let's go and talk to the informant. I have the keys to a car. We should take it, even if it's in walking distance so that we can close to this firepower."
I'll head down to the car.
"I've also got an idea about busting the still and delivery racket that I was working on before this. I don't want to get sidetracked while we're doing this, but just be ready."

Agent CLARK then retrieves a shotgun from the store room then exits the office. He then say's "We both have our primary mandates. I'm looking into white trafficking under the Mann Act. I believe that TORIO is importing women over sate lines for the purpose of prostitution..." You then walk out onto Union Street where the B.O.I. Chev Sedan is parked. Agent CLARK slides his shotgun on the floor in the backseat of the car. He checks his 45 Auto in his shoulder holster then gets in and starts the engine. It's 10 AM and the morning street is busy with cars and trucks coming and going. The sidewalks are busy with pedestrian traffic. Agent CLARK say's AC" Remember, Federal Agents do not alarm the public by walking around with heavy fire power in view. We have to maintain our image at all times..."

I'll slide the shotgun in the backseat on the floor of the car, and rest the Thompson on the floor leaning against the door next to me but still below the window level so as not to be blatantly visible.
"I'll do my best to keep the image of a Federal agent who isn't about to get gunned down and nearly killed again. Don't worry about me, Bob, I won't walk around with an artillery strapped to my back. Now let's go talk to the informant and see what we can find out."

Agent CLARK starts the car then drives over to Broad Street then turns onto Tiffin Alley and parks across from Pitzer's News. He points over and say's AC:" Pitzer, the German newspaper sales men who also sells information. Lets head in. I'll introduce you."
Agent CLARK then exits the car and walks over to Pitzer's News. Upon entry into the shop a male around 50 years old, greying hair and mustache wearing a white shirt, black pants and apron walks over. In a German accent he say's P:" Agent CLARK. you have come."

I'm checking the inside first to see if I see anyone else in the building, and then I'll take a quick peep outside to see if anyone is watching. Ref: roll OBS After looking around you enter the store with Agent CLARK. Agent CLARK says to Jack PITZER, AC: "You said on the telephone that you had some information?" PITZER looks around conspiratorially, then say's JP: "there is a man staying in the Lexington Hotel that may resemble someone for whom you are looking for. An injured man? Does this interest you?" Agent CLARK replies AC: "It might. Where's he staying?" PITZER JP: "On the fourth floor. One of my customers, a house detective with the hotel mentioned it. He was buying supplies for this man..."

The unknown male appears to be taking notice of you... Pitzer say's JP: "I did not hear the room number, though you can ask the house detective. just don't tell him I mentioned anything. Alright? Agent CLARK looks at you and say's AC: "I'm thinking we go over and introduce ourselves. If he seems OK, we'll ask. If he doesn't, we'll make. If he might give anyone a heads up, we'll secure him...what do you think?"
The hotel detective continues to lounge outside the Lexington at the corner of Broad Street and Tiffin Alley, across from the entrance to Pitzer's News...

ID then say's "Agent CLARK, Bureau of Investigation. This is my associate (motioning to you). We'd like to ask you a couple of questions." The male say's "Lance TERRELL, I'm the House Detective for the Lexington. What is it I Can do for the Federal Government? We just wanted to know about a possible resident or guest of the hotel who might have been staying here and was injured or incapacitated. Would you know anything about that? Maybe a guy who might have been somewhere around the fourth floor? I don't want to step on your toes, and you can help to make sure your toes don't get stepped on. Got it? Of course you make sure your toes are in our way and that could always end up being very painful. Nobody wants any undue suffering."
Robert smiles broadly.

You look at Lance TERRELs facial expressions and you detect deception.
Lance throws his smoke onto the sidewalk, steps on it the day's " sorry boy's, can't help ya. Good luck with your search." With that he turns to walk west to the rear alley entrance to the hotel...
