Hey guys...
First, to the people who I let down in the pBp games I was playing in, I'm very, very sorry for disappearing on you all and dropping the ball hard. I hope you'll forgive me for that.
Second, to everyone of my friends here in general, sorry for just dropping off the face of the internet. I got SUPER busy and just couldn't retain an online presence. Stuff still hasn't leveled out, but I think I can begin a 'comeback' of sorts into the message forums here and again chat with you all here and there, but I probably won't likely be able to commit to such things as pBp either as player or referee for some time to come.
Just poking my head in the door again, saying hello, and looking forward to chatting with you all again.
-Tim

I treat clerics as the actual paladins of the church. The priesthood are the political bunch - the top ranking priests may be retired clerics with high-level magic, but most priests' powers are limited to oratory skills. The rank-and-file clerics are all out there spreading the word and breaking heads. I'm with Vile completely on this. Exactly how I see the difference between "Cleric" and "Clergy". Bards are the missing class in BLUEHOLME™ because I haven't found a mention of them in any of Eric Holmes's writing. Also the DMG version totally put me off the idea.
Same here. No use for the bard in my games. He's just an NPC who plays music and tells poems/stories. And the AD&D one lost it's luster after the first one I played. Never liked the barbarian class. They are a social construct perpetuated by the "civilised" cultures. Even taking their word for it, there are all kinds of classes within barbarian cultures, and most of them are not even human.
I'd just use the berserker as a base and work from there if I wanted a special class for this. While I love barbarians in fiction, I don't see a need personally to detail/specialize this beyond a Fighting-Man just played a certain way.

EDIT: Is Vassal for single or multi-player? I'll give it a look. Is it like Hexwar?

Wow, Coffee! Thanks so much for that input, man... I really appreciate that!
I'm going to have to find Mr. Emrich's site. I think I'll print a few and try those before buying. And, I don't see any problem at all with being notoriously cheap... I could stand to be more so myself. Wisdom.
Thanks again for the heads up! I'll have to look for that book, too. Great info, brother... Fight On!

So, I've went over and made an account here. I'm thinking about checking out some of the Battlesson games available. I'm basically 'green' or non-experienced when it comes to wargames, having only played a few games of RISK and Axis and Allies and the like back in the day. So, I've no experience with how Hex n Chit wargames go outside of a few games at Hexwar.com with Makofan here on these boards. Because of this, I'm thinking this series of games may prove to be a good intro. Have any of you had any experience with these games in particular? Any encouragements or input? Fun experiences to share?

I thought I'd post a link to the freely available wargame that derv brought up, a few pages back entitled "Battle for Angmar". Just go here and click the name of the game to get a zip file download BTW thank you for letting me know about this game! I think I'll give it a whirl when I can.

I love this. For the record, I definitely keep gold for xp in my monthly home game. I don't care for episodic xp. I think that the xp from defeating (and this includes tricking or positively negotiating with) monsters more than makes up for the attrition, at least in OD&D (at the earlier levels specifically) where monsters are valued at 100 xp/ HD. But we each have different experiences and preferences. Of course I'm not opposed to, and do in fact, give xp awards for outstanding things from time-to time like you guys brought up above. I just don't roll the episodic route: I think that's best for other game systems as opposed to D&D, but that's just my opinion on what's fun and nothing more.

I particularly love the artwork. Those eyes are awesome! Very evocative. The blue man eyes looking like a fish is really great!
The other ideas are great as well, but the artwork really pops.

Holy crap!!! Finn, thank you! I'm clueless about many war games. I'm unhappy about that. Is PRESTAGS still available? Where can I learn about it?? I'll offer some true discussion of value to this thread when I can, I promise Until then, fellows... You've earned a lurker!!

I'd say, for the style of campaign you are positing, that these rules would probably be just fine. They certainly sound fun.
One thing I might consider: regarding specifically the 'stronger creature' kill requirement.
I'd remain as you wrote it for weapons of reknown, as they are the 'intro' or 'low-end' here... But for the legendary status requirement, I might not solely use higher hit dice vanquished as a requirement; But it would be part of it.
My thought: If the weapon advances into legendry, should it not vanquish a legendary foe?
Truthfully, all I mean is... a special, specific individual of whatever creature type that is so fierce, so vile, so powerful as to be feared head and shoulders above it's peers.
It's not just a troll... It's harrow-limb the troll. Not just a hill giant, but three-stalks Tom.
Such beasts of legendry would bring high praise indeed for the slaying, due to significantly greater malice.
And, as the referee, it's really up to you whether they possess extra abilities, or don't... and just possess an infamous name and you play them far better or perhaps along the lines of their wild history and personality.
But I'd make something like this a requirement for the most potent of weapons.

Hello, Derv.
I don't know if you've got access to it, but perhaps the method found in Arneson's "First Fantasy Campaign" would be of use to you?
If you don't have access, I'd be willing to PM you relevant information.
Or, I wonder out loud... Has there been an article like this in the astounding Fight On! magazine?

Pardon the double-post, please!
Gronan, I'm really curious. How do you approach monster populations on dungeon levels deeper than those given in volume 3?
Also, do you sometimes place large numbers of lesser hit die creatures deeper than, say, the 1st or 2nd level of the dungeon?
Anyone else that would like to chime in on the above question, please feel free! Again, thank you all for your input here.

Yes, but it's Japanese Animation. It's quite old, now, too. I do love it, but be prepared for weapons the size of small cars in some instances.
If you don't mind Anime, it's definitely worth a watch!
