Very good Sneakyhobbit Here are a few minor corrections to you PC sheet: Your HD are 2+2 (2 HD as a 3rd level sneak, +2 hp for 12 constitution). Your front AC is 4 due to Elvish (not Elven) chain(6), dex (-1), half your HD (-1). Your rear AC is 6 (Elvish chain). Your saving throw is 13. Then you just need to add a suitable name for your pony and I'll roll your hp and insert you with the main group just before they enter the mines

Sneakyhobbit, I have added Largo to the Fellowship thread, and posted your hit points in the Preparations thread. Since the company has not entered the underworld yet, we can assume that Largo was with them when they left Edhil five days ago. You are free to post in game at your leisure... enjoy

Wow.. I can see that the party is already generously proportioned, and you've already begun your assault on Moria, but simply put this looks awesome and I'd love to join in Loving the maps, ASCII art, and organisation so far. Please let me know if there is room for another!

Please let me know if there is room for another! Welcome Theycallmebruce. The first rule of all my games is: there's always room for one more. Here are some numbers for you to ponder... XP: 2 + 2 + 6 = 10 (10,000 XP) SP: 2 + 3 + 5 = 10 (1,000 silver pennies) Str: 6 + 4 + 2 = 12 Int: 2 + 5 + 2 = 9 Wis: 5 + 4 + 3 = 12 Dex: 4 + 2 + 5 = 11 Con: 3 + 6 + 6 = 15 Cha: 6 + 1 + 2 = 9 sum: 88, average: 11.00 Follow the guidelines in the Men & Magic thread, and post your ideas here so that I can help you work through the details of your new PC. Enjoy

Please let me join! I'd love to be a Dwarf who was obsessed with finding one of the Seven Dwarf-Lord Rings. Not that I'd expect him to find one, just be obsessed with finding one. I'd see this guy as a Thorin-like character, with just a little bit of Gollum, lurking at the edges... If his stats are good enough (I know I can only be a dwarf if I qualify), he'll be a dwarf, and I'll modify with the automatic 6 to make him charismatic. If his stats are not good enough, I'll use his 6 to qualify him as a dwarf, if possible. Otherwise, I'll figure out a new character concept. But, assuming I can be one... Name: Hrok Son of Brok Thunder Tamer Alignment: Fair (but edging toward Selfish, as above). Class: Can I be a Fighter/Sneak? If not, a fighter will be fine. Description: Hrok is not of Durin's folk, but a Blacklock. The Blacklocks were one of the seven houses of the Dwarves that dwelt in the mountains of the East. J.R.R. Tolkien, Christopher Tolkien (ed.), The Peoples of Middle-earth, "Of Dwarves and Men", pp. 301, 322 (note 24). I see his people as one of those Houses that might have produced some of the wicked Dwarves who are said to have allied with the goblins in The Hobbit. Hrok is not one of those, and, in fact, his father won minor reknown in the War of the Dwarves and Orcs for holding off a goblin ambush in Eriador atop a barrow in the midst of a thunderstorm. His father perished, but allowed a whole company of dwarves to escape to safety. However, the hand of Sauron always had a finger on his people, and many of them had used their power to make mighty enchanted weapons for evil purpose. Certainly, of all the seven houses of the Dwarves, the Blacklocks were the quickest to accept the Dwarven rings. Hrok, himself, is proud and somewhat vain. He believes the Dwarves to have been the final perfection of Illuvatar's work, inspired through Aule. He would like to see Moria arise again as a great kingdom, and, though he is aligned to the side of light and would (so he thinks) never turn to the darkness, he definitely sees his own race as the greatest of the peoples of Middle Earth.

Welcome to the fray Gloriousbattle, great character concept Here are your rolls... XP: 4 + 4 + 1 = 9 (9,000 XP) SP: 2 + 6 + 1 = 9 (900 silver pennies) Str: 1 + 6 + 5 = 12 Int: 6 + 2 + 5 = 13 Wis: 1 + 3 + 5 = 9 Dex: 6 + 1 + 6 = 13 Con: 3 + 1 + 1 = 5 Cha: 2 + 4 + 5 = 11 sum: 81, average: 10.12 You can replace any one die with a 6 as per the PC guidesline found in the Men & Magic thread. In order to make a Dwarf you will need to use your 6 to bump constitution up to 10. There are no multi-classed PCs, but a Dwarf already has some Sneak-like abilities, so you could choose a fighter and then elect to only wear light armour and still be sneaky. Or, since there are already two Dwarf fighter PCs, you might elect the Sneak class and be done with it. Given the background you describe, I see no reason not to choose the Selfish alignment. There are already a couple of other selfish PCs, so it won't matter too much. Put it this way; If one of the Dwarven rings of power were recovered, would Hrok a) keep it for himself (selfish), or b) returned it to the White Council of Gondor for safe keeping (good)? Have a ponder and choose some equipment with your starting silver. Then you can post a character sheet on the Character Sheets Thread. I'll help you out with the game statistics. Enjoy

Very nice Gloriousbattle. With your 9,000 XP you will start out as a 3rd level fighter. Now you will need to purchase some gear and/or hirelings. You have 900 silver pennies to play with. The cost of gear is listed here (being a Dwarf, however, you pay only 25% of the listed cost for Dwarf-made armour). All other goods will cost you 5x the list price if of Dwarf-make. Number of hirelings allowed is detailed here. Yours will be Dwarves by default. Choose some equipment, and then I'll help you with the game stats.

Have a read of the Men & Magic thread, and then post your character concept and/or question here. I'm here to help Enjoy!

Oin of Ironload
Dwarf Sneak level 2 Alignment - Selfish
XP: 1 + 1 + 4 = 6 (6,000 XP) SP: 6 + 5 + 2 = 13 (1,300 silver pennies) Str: 6 + 5 + 1 = 12 Int: 1 + 5 + 6 = 12 Wis: 1 + 3 + 4 = 8 Dex: 4 + 6 + 6 = 16 Con: 4 + 4 + 5 = 13 Cha: 2 + 1 + 2 = 5
Underground senses, bonus AC for being a shortarse and bonus saves for being a dwarf and a sneak.
HP 8
A scurvy toerag of a dwarf who early discovered the delights of Rhovanion wines, then moved on the the Dalesmen's ale and uses his beautifully crafted dwarven harp to play ugly and bawdy songs in taverns. Left the east with pockets full of someone else's gold (a man's not a fellow dwarfs, he isn't daft enough to think he could have got away with that), came over the northern passes and down towards the new towns of Eregion. Hasn't really thought too hard about what he is going to do in these parts, but he knows the trail of broken elvish noses and aggrieved woodmen missing their silverware he has left behind him means that the way back home his closed to him for the moment.

Great character concept Bert ;D Oin's 6,000 XP make him a 3rd level Sneak (see here). That and his 13 constitution give him 2+3 HD (see here and here). I.e., 2d6+3 hit points -- I will roll those for you just before you get underway (and again after each night of full bed-rest). Now you are welcome to spend some of your ill gotten silver on gear and/or hirelings. The cost of gear is listed here. Of course, your being a Dwarf means you pay only 25% of the listed price for Dwarf-made armour (if you so choose it). Any other goods will cost you 5x the list price if Dwarf-made, or the standard list price if Man-made. Number of hirelings allowed is detailed here. Yours will be Dwarves by default, although with 5 charisma you won't have many! Once you have your equipment sorted I'll help you with the game stats...

Taking over Largo so Ways has one less NPC to worry about. His stats below should look about the same as the original version, except his Cha is lower and his Wis higher. So, yeah, you've got one cranky hobbit on your hands now.
I have no idea if the Gear list is still accurate...
.~-= Largo Harfoot =-~. of The Shire
Story Largo’s past was unremarkable. Very much like Largo himself. Plenty of potential, but nothing ever quite worked out as planned. The thing that led to his life on the road being a prime example: Largo’s father Palego Harfoot was a leaf farmer located well off the beaten track between the Shire and Brie. Largo helped Palego in the family business. It occurred to Largo while travelling to market with the annual crops, that he could make a pretty penny more this year and Palego would never be the wiser... After the scales tipped a very high price, Largo happily pocketed the excess, Palego got what he was expecting and everyone was happy. Everyone. Except the big folk when they found rocks in their bales of leaf. That was the catalyst for a gang of big folk paying a visit to papa Palego’s farm one night, to teach him a lesson and recover their coin. When the coin couldn’t be found and when the old hobbit couldn’t come up with answers when put to the question, he was locked in his own house which was put to the torch while Largo watched, cowering unseen from beyond the hedgerow. That were five years ago. Since then, Largo’s been on the move. Doing what comes natural. Helping himself to the easy pickings, bartering a better deal and picking up on any opportunity that comes his way...

Hirelings By some chance he has found three drinking buddies cum henchmen willing to put up with him and try their luck in the mines.
Glorban, Mercenary - Tough Blue Mountain Dwarf who likes a bevvy as much as Oin. Don't like Trolls though. Just don't mention the Trolls.
Yori, Guide - A Lonely Mountain Dwarf who reckons his grandad lived in Moria back in the old days, has been hanging around the caves since the end of the War of the Ring trying to claim any recovered loot off adventurers as heirlooms of his family.
Ugrik, Lackey - broken wreck who spent much of his life as a slave of the goblins, now gets ordered about for a pittance of pay by this bunch of drunken dwarf thieves, which he tells himself is a step up in the world, even when fetching the piss bucket.

Great job Bert A few minor amendments to Oin's game stats... XP Adjustment is -5% (due to his 8 wisdom). AC front/rear is 3/6 (Dwarfish ringmail base AC 6), -1 dex, -1 shield, -1 HD/2. Saving throw (unmodified) is 13. If he also wears a helmet his AC will instead be (front/rear) 2/5, however he will also loose his Sneak's benefit of surprising enemy 4 in 6, and being surprised himself only 1 in 6. Oin's starting hit points shall be [2d6=3,4] 10. I have been over the costs and encumbrance of Oin's gear... and also added 1 week of supplies. Seeing as the west gate of Moria is five days hike from Edhil, this would be a bare minimum required. So, I have the cost of his purchases at 737sp and 77cp, leaving him with 556sp and 5cp. This sum assumes that Oin has paid his three "hirelings" (a.k.a. drinking buddies) 30sp, which is a week in advance -- the minimum they will agree to accompany him on this "hair-brained" mission for. Might I suggest it would also be wise to purchse some supplies with which to feed the hired help? And also some basic gear will make them far more effective! Note also that Oin is presently encumbered (although his "help" could be made to carry some of his chatels...) Oin (Dwarf Sn3, AC3/6, HD 2+3, hp 10/10, Load 16/12) Clothing, Backpack (1), Bedroll (1), Purse {556sp 5cp}, Waterskin {1 quart} (1), Trail rations {2 days*}, Dwarf ringmail (2), Dwarf axe (1), Dwarf small shield (1), Dwarf helmet (1), Dwarf crossbow (1), boltcase (2), bolts {40}, Chalk {5}, Dwarf crowbar (1), Candles {20} (1), Dwarf locksmith's tools, Parchment {5 leaves}, Ink, Steel pen, Sack {5}, Torches {6} (1), Tinderbox, Dwarf small harp (1). * 2 days of trail rations remaining after the 5 day hike from Edhil to the west gate of Moria. You can go ahead and post Oin on the Player Character Sheets thread here.

I'd love to take credit for the background but it was the work of Largo's original owner. All I'm responsible for is making him distinctly unlikable... that is, unless he continues to bulls-eye Orcs in the face!
I adjusted the background a bit. Can't imagine any hobbit too scared to rescue his pa but brave enough to enter Moria!

Well done Bert I will roll three strength stats to see how much gear your hirelings can carry unencumbered... Glorban=13, Yori=11, Ugrik=10. With this information you may want to trim some of the excess bulk they are carrying... also, you have noted the bulk of a few items incorrectly; Glorban's poleaxe: (2) not (3), Ugrik's leather armour: (2) not (1). Yori and Ugrik are essentially non-combatant, so probably don't really need armour or helmets (if you are looking for bulk to cut). I'll get you started in game shortly -- keep an eye on the Gate Camp thread. Good luck

I'd like to join up. Not sure if it is easy to bring in a new character to the base camp or if you would rather recycle an NPC..... I've read through the threads, err, it looks dangerous. One room in and plenty of Trolls , Orcs, and death.

Unfortunately I have a suspicion that the game is beginning to dry up... but let's assume it is not. The base camp is presently under attack by scores of Orcs in the middle of the night. The Orcs won a deadly surprise round, and are flooding into the camp site as adventurers and hirelings tumble out of their bedrolls in the night. Perhaps your timely arrival might provoke a few of the other players to action? I think it might work best if you were to try your hand at one of the PCs already at the camp who has not received direction from his player for quite a while. These PCs are: Elindir, Half-Elven Bard (3rd level), Baraglin Banks, Hobbit Sneak (4th level), Dernfara, Rohirrim Man of Westfold, Ranger (level 4), Hrok son of Brok, Dwarf Fighter (level 3), Oin of Ironload, Dwarf Fighter (level 3). I would confirm that the current player is happy to "let go" their PC before handing any of them over to you, so perhaps you might propose two or three choices? Let me know...

Well it would be faithless of me to withdraw without at least giving it a try. If it goes down in flames and blood, Ill try to join your Hinterlands game. Tricky choices.... (In order) Baraglin seems the most fully formed, I can probably slip into that character easily. Hrok looks unfinished so that might a good choice. Although he is already 5 down in this battle. Elindir, because I see the player has already said they would be away. -Mike

Hi Rleduc, You are most welcome to join You can take over any of the PCs mentioned in my reply to Mgtremaine, above (except Baraglin, who has just been taken). The two Dwarfs listed last are relatively new and shapeless... Oin was originally cast as a sneak, but could work equally well as a fighter (in fact I have them both as 1st level hireling fighters right now, but either could be promoted back to PC status as desired). Let me know which PC you'd prefer...

It appears that Hrok does not have a character sheet. I don't know of it was taken down or if the info in Heros in the Making never was cross posted and finalized.
I have Internet but am on travel with only an itouch for the coming week. If you can just tell me my AC, weapon and hit points, I can wing it until I get back. Don't want to hold things up. If that's ok with you.
