Very good ProfessorP.
You know 3 languages, the first two of which are presumably Khuzdul and Westron.
Your HD are: 2d6(3rd level Sneak) +2(con adjustment)
Your (thus far unarmoured) front AC is 7; Being 9 (base) -1(for 2HD) and -1(for dex). Rear AC 9.
Your saving throws are 13, with +2 versus wands, rays, and breath weapons (Sneak), and +2 versus poison, wands, staves, and spells (Dwarf).
You can employ at most 3 hirelings.
Presumably most of your starting goods will be of Dwarfish make (and thus cost 5 times the list price)... excepting Manish goods you may have acquired recently in Edhil, or along the way there.

Very good Ehiker. You may wish to review some Tolkien-esque Dwarf names here and here (for example). You can choose names for your hirelings too, or leave it to me to do so. Your HD are 3d6+2 (3d6 for 3rd level fighter) +2(con adjustment) Your saving throw is 13. +2 versus poison, wands, staves, and spells (Dwarf), and +2 versus poison, paralysation or petrification, and death (fighter). Presumably most of your starting goods will be of Dwarfish make (and thus cost 5 times the list price)... excepting Manish goods you may have acquired recently in Edhil, or along the way there.

Well done Crusssdaddy. Arnor was a huge Kingdom that occupied much of north-western middle earth in ages past, so to say you are of Arnor is similar to saying I am "of Earth". You might like to choose a smaller, current place of origin within Arnor. Read more about Arnor here. This will also help narrow down your race from "Man" to a specific people. By default you would be a Hollander of Eregion. Your HD are 2d6+2 (2d6 for 4th level seer) +2(con adjustment). Your front AC is 8: 9(base) -1(half of your 2HD). You can employ at most 7 hirelings; you can dream up names for them, or else leave it to me.

Mushgnome, the Dwarves appear to be coming out in force! You might like to look at the Tolkien-esque Dwarf names I suggested earlier too; here and here (for example). You can speak read and write one language (Khuzdul), or else you can speak Khuzdul and Westron but not read or write either. Your HD are 4d6+5 (4d6 for 4th level fighter) +5(con adjustment). You are tough as a Dwarf hero! Your (unarmoured) frontal AC is 7; 9(base) -2(half your 4 HD). Your saving throw is 12. You can employ at most 6 hirelings. The costs of some of the requested items are: Rum, small barrel (20 pints, 6 bulk): 60sp Beer, small barrel (20 pints, 6 bulk): 20sp Goat 4sp sheep 4sp Chicken 1sp Dog, lap: 50sp Dog, hunting: 20sp Dog, guard: 30sp Cheese making gear, Man-made (2 bulk): 3sp Bucket, Man-made (1 bulk): 6cp Cook stove, cast iron, portable, Man-made (15 bulk): 30sp Light Dwarfish ballista, collapsible (90 bulk): 375sp + 2 crew Light Dwarfish catapult, collapsible (140 bulk): 750sp + 3 crew

Great job Tonneau -- awesome back-story!
One last detail; Legándir Urbrinduil knows 3 langauges; Sindarin, Westron and one other... it seems likely from your story that it might be the so called "northern tongue", or possibly one of the other Elvish tongues?
Rock and roll ;D
p.s. because all your gear is Elvish it weighs 25% less. Your total load is 11.

A PC can "figure it out". But it will still take a number of crew to move, maintain and operate any such artillery. I'd say you should hire a Captain and several mercenaries to crew your thing. I'm picturing a baggage train 40 yards long with wagons, crew and draft animals hauling heavy equipment through the Mines of Moria. Quietly. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth, clearly I've been playing too much Dwarf Fortress lately! Thanks for the price list clarifications. I'm going shopping...

Ok... new name (and hireling names) selected. Finagled some supplies and pay (only one week in advance) and then updated helmet to be of dwarven make, but in the interest of saving money, all basic supplies (where quality is of less importance) were purchased in Edhil, if that works for you. If not, I can make more adjustments - would probably have to lose the laborer.

I guess we could use someone with the healer's craft. So....
.~-= Elindir =-~. of Rivendell
Story In youth, Elindir was scared with the curse of frailty--perhaps from the absent spirits of ancestors now dwelling beyond the seas. Elindir learned much herb lore and leechcraft from the unsuccessful healers that tended to him. But like childhood innocence, all that once was is now lost. The great peace, crumbled into pile of half-standing stones. Evil once again seeps from the deep places of the world. And the ancestors of the ancients will heed its call. Despite his physical weakness, Elindir has taken up arms and intents to bring the conflict to the gates of Moria.

.~-= LÓMËLUIN, =-~. Captain of East Lorien
Story The youngest son of a proud Sindarin Lord of the Galadhrim, Lómëluin’s perceived lack of warrior fibre led to him being dispatched East to study herb-lore with Radagast the Brown under the eaves of Mirkwood. He proved an apt pupil, but the outbreak of the War of the Ring proved him also a surprisingly skilled and cunning warrior during the Battle beneath the Leaves. It was only after Sauron’s defeat that he learned his father and brothers had all fallen during the assaults on Lorien. As the last male heir of his house he assumed their duties, eventually dispatched to Southern Mirkwood, or East Lorien as it was now known, to guard its new-won frontiers. But the glory of Lorien dimmed, its people slowly passing into the West. This angered Lómëluin. Had his kin sacrificed their right to look upon the light of Valinor for nothing? Already Men encroached on the borders of Lorien. Should fire and axes come to Cerin Amroth? He refused to take the ship to the Undying Lands, dwelling instead on his time with Radagast and the tales the old Wizard would sometimes tell of Rings of Power. Could what was wrought once not be wrought again? Thus it was he looked secretly into the Mirror of Galadriel - always a perilous undertaking, and more so since the Lady of the Wood departed into the West... and he saw a vision of a mighty ring lost in the eternal dark of Moria – the Black Pit.
Could not elvendom on earth be restored by the power of so precious a thing..?

Tombowings, great job -- you've got all the stats spot on. It's seems you've mastered my house rules Rivendell has become a very lonely place in the fourth age. Most have gone to the west, and only a few dozen Elves remaining there -- and these are as often somewhere in the dell as in Elrond's House. Perhaps your failing health was due (in part) to the absence, or late arrival, of a knowledgeable healer when you took hurt in your war training -- or defense of Rivendell? I leave the details to you... Might I humbly suggest a look at some of Tolkien's Elvish names here? Your total load is 7; 2 for your mail and 7 (x0.75 due to Elvish make) = 5 for the rest. When you are ready you can post your PC over on the PC sheets thread.

Nice work DoctorX, excellent piece of back-story A few corrections to your numbers are: With INT 13 you are allowed 3 languages. Your first 2 should be Sindarin and Westron, and you can choose one more. With an epic 18,000 XP you begin as a 4th level bard. Your HD are 3d6+2 (for a 4th level bard) +1 (constitution bonus) Your front AC is 4. 6(Elvish mail) -1(shield) -1(half of your 3HD) Your rear AC is 6 (Elvish mail) Your saving throws are: 12 +4 versus disease (Elf) +2 versus poison, paralysation, petrification, sickness, death (Bard) As an Elf you also: Move silently and invisibly 4 in 6 (in light armour -- including Elvish mail), Locate hidden doors or secret passages 4 in 6, May fire a bow on the move (on foot) without penalty, Inflict +1 damage with magical weapons of Elvish make. Your current overall load is 4 (Elvish mail is 2, the other stuff adds up to 2). I haven't worked out your expenditure, but might I suggest that you will not last long without water or supplies, and that your healing talent will go to waste without some healing herbs!

I have some gear picked out but I haven't totaled it yet - also I want to pick up four mercenary hirelings and pay to outfit them too - more soon. Let's see if this checks out:
.~-= Soval Hackbeard =-~. of Swanfleet
Story The child of poor Hollander smallholders steading the southern reaches of Swanfleet, Corin lived an uneventful childhood. A large, strapping lad, he joined a mercenary troupe at the age of twelve and never looked back. Corin has traveled to the Western coast as far as the Brandywine, and throughout Rohan, fighting most of the way. He has fought orcs twice, the second time receiving a brutal facial injury scarring his chin and making it impossible for him to grow a beard – hence the nickname. He is well familiar with Stoor-folk from his childhood, but has almost no experience with dwarves or elves, and is somewhat superstitious about both. He is of good repute among soldiers, being brave, honest, and very strong, and a small coterie of henchmen follows him. Being neither particularly brilliant nor a natural leader, Corin relies instead on fair dealing to keep their loyalty.
