Noble of RohanStoryÉohild of the people of Fair Rohirrim comes from a noble family of Rohan, but she has a hard determined heart to do what she dreams. Always over looked by her parents in favor of her younger brother who become a knight in service to the king. Éohild has always felt she was better with the sword than her brother, and can ride like the wind. Given her skills she is envious of her brothers good looks which she desires. On day she meet and befriended an Elf through her brothers dealing for the king, and asked for him to help her reach her full potential as a warrior. In a sword fight contest before he left to return home, she won out against him and was rewarded with a Elvish short-bow for protection for times when her sword was of no use. Jealous of her brother getting such a good position in the Kings army when he can't even handle a sword well like her, she wants to prove she is better and has set out to make a name for her self, and to return a victorious fighter worthy of her family's praise; and maybe the hand of the Prince himself . Back story has been added, WOTE. Let me know if you want me to change anything before I post my character sheet on the other thread. Looks great Ehiker -- love the back story! A fool's errand perhaps, but what is a Dwarf to do with 6 wisdom?? You can post Norin son of Nain over on the PC Sheets thread I'm a big fan of, "Failing to learn from history's lessons, we are doomed to repeat them." I liked the irony of the historic repetition, since Thror's trip was just as futile. And I'm definitely playing off of the WIS 6 score.

.~-= Baraglin Banks of Bree =-~ Story : Baraglin is a hobbit from Bree. He was once wealthy as a petty landowner, and it gave him ideas of agricultural innovations to make crop and shepp better. Lack of interest for his experiments, bad weather and bad recolts sent him quickly into poverty - and bitterness. That's how he found that job in a taverne, and heared all these things about adventures, treasures and shiny gold in old places. Baraglin has some talents for practical things, but never imagined adventures could also be dangerous and dirty.

A question - Half-Elf Seer who dabbles in Sneakery also. Legit? If so, some confusion regarding hit dice & such. Hi Ragnorakk, You should choose one class (either sneak or seer), but you can behave any way your like once the game starts. I.e., a seer can still sneak about. Keep in mind also that a Half-Elf has some natural "sneakery", i.e., moves silently/hides 4 in 6, and finds secret doors 4 in 6, which may play right into your game...

Nice write up Calithena, I like your story. I notice that your refer to "Corin", but you have your name as "Soval" but I l think both a good Hollander names. Soval does sound a bit more like it might be of Dunderling heritage, which is neat Your HD are 4+2; (4d6 due a 4th level fighter, and a +2 con adjustment). Your front AC is 2; 6(chainmail) -1(helm) -1(shield) -2(half your 4HD) Your rear AC is 5; 6(chainmail) -1(helm) Your +2 saving throw adjustment also applies to saves versus death (I need to add that to the fighter description). You have lots of muscle, and lots of silver. You can even afford plate armour -- as befits a mercenary hero! If you like, your four hirelings could be part of your break-away own mercenary troop (perhaps the only Men gutsy enough to follow a hero into Moria?). With your charisma and renown (a hero!) you can have up to six hirelings if you so desire.

A nice start Ragnorakk, you'll need to decide whether to be a Sneak or a Seer. This choice mainly depends on whether you want to have the use of light armour and light weaponry (as a Sneak), or to be essentially non-combatant but steeped in knowledge and lore (as a Seer). As a Half-Elf you will be able to sneak about and locate secret doors as does an Elf even if you choose the Seer class. The choice is yours! p.s. Look here for naming inspiration

A great start Heartless... check your private messages, I sent you some additional information.
Also, of note:
You have 7 intelligence, but two languages. This means you can speak them both but cannot read or write. Apparently, you let your sword arm do the talking.
Your front AC is 2; 5(plate) -1(helm) -1(shield) -1(half your 3HD) Your rear AC is 4; 5(plate) -1(helm)
Your saving throw is 13. Adjusted by +2 versus poison, paralysation, petrification or death.
As I mentioned in my message you may only begin with one Elvish item, and your should most certainly have a horse! You can have up to 5 hirelings -- a groom for your horse would be a good start for any proud Rohirrim spear!

Another great start, Snorri. With his wealth of experience, it seems that Baraglin must have already done quite a bit of sneaking around Bree, Hobbiton, Edhil, and probably Tharbad, Chetwood and Fornorst too! see here for a wider map of the region. Your XP adjustment is -5% (8 wisdom). Your HD are 3+2 (3d6 for a 4th level sneak, +2 constitution adjustment). Your saving throws are 12. But your throws are adjusted by +2 versus poison, wands and spells (Hobbit), and also +2 versus rays, and breath weapons (Sneak). Trolls and giants and the like deduct -2 from attack rolls against you, and you add +2 to attack rolls with slings. You surprise enemy 4 in 6 when sneaking about, and also find secret doors 4 times in 6. You also roll 2 additional damage dice when you back stab an opponent. I can help you out with your other numbers once you have purchased your equipment...

I finished shopping (no leftover cart space for the other Dwarves, sorry) and chose some appropriate Dwarfly names from the approved source material. Síli son of Víli is ready for action, pending your final say-so, Ways! Very good Mushgnome. It looks like you have covered just about everything! Are your Hirelings Men or Dwarves? Their names seem all rather... anonymous? Also, as a matter of practicality, if I am to show them on a "battle map" it would be easier if each name starts with a different letter. Also worth noting that fresh supplies will only be good for 2 days at the most, so the four of you will be able to eat 8 days worth... the other 20 days might be wasted. Each person needs to drink one flask of water per day of adventurous activity (or per two days if idle). Otherwise, looking great Mushgnome. You can post Sili on the PCs thread

You can post Sili on the PCs thread The hirelings are Dwarfs and the names are from the link you provided. I will change them to different letters so it doesn't get confusing on the battle map (though I'm hoping they will be non-combatants). Thanks for clarification on the fresh rations. I will crunch the numbers and swap them out for trail rations at the appropriate price/weight. My intention of course is to supplement the rations with fresh milk and eggs (and meat if the going gets rough). What is the price please for a big, empty barrel? (For reference you quoted bulk 6, cost 20sp for a 20-pint barrel of beer.) We will fill it with water at the last potable spring and carry it on the cart to refill our individual waterskins. This page may help you with the math: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keg(edit) I gave my hirelings more interesting names, changed all but 8 days' worth to trail rations, pitched in a few extra sp and got rid of the silk rope & grappling hook to pay for the upgrade. On the plus side there's now more room on the cart for loot... and it occurs to me a clever and enterprising Dwarf could make a small fortune by converting fresh ingredients to trail rations on an industrial scale!

I think Soval is set now - let me know if you need anything else.
.~-= Soval Hackbeard =-~. of Swanfleet
Story The child of poor Hollander smallholders steading the southern reaches of Swanfleet, Soval lived an uneventful childhood. A large, strapping lad, he joined a mercenary troupe at the age of twelve and never looked back. Soval has traveled to the Western coast as far as the Brandywine, and throughout Rohan, fighting most of the way. He has fought orcs twice, the second time receiving a brutal facial injury scarring his chin and making it impossible for him to grow a beard – hence the nickname. He is well familiar with Stoor-folk from his childhood, but has almost no experience with dwarves or elves, and is somewhat superstitious about both. He is of good repute among soldiers, being brave, honest, and very strong, and a small coterie of henchmen follows him. Being neither particularly brilliant nor a natural leader, Soval relies instead on fair dealing to keep their loyalty.

it occurs to me a clever and enterprising Dwarf could make a small fortune by converting fresh ingredients to trail rations on an industrial scale! Plausible, one supposes, but hardly an "adventurous" career. Then again, you could have all kinds of trouble securing those fresh rations, or storing them, or using them before they go bad, not to mention running and protecting the operation. And then of course you need to find a customer for your industrial quantities of trail rations. And then there's taxes to consider... I think Sili is ready for the PC Sheets thread ;D

I am finally getting around to equipping, sorry for the delay. A question on hiring a mercenary: I pay for the equippage and provisioning of my sell-sword guardsman, yes? Yes indeed. A hireling comes equipped with the basic tools of the trade. Anything else you must supply. Thus, a mercenary will have gambeson, small shield, spear and dagger, unless you outfit him/her with something better.

What does a Groom cost, I do not see it in the price of goods? What level/abilities are the hireling for: Captain, Mercenary, Militiaman? Cheers. Let us say that a groom is the equivalent of an animal handler, but specialised in horse care, and therefore costs 6 sp per day. Militia are ordinary Men; farmers, herders, labourers and so on pressed into military service (d6+2 hp). Mercenaries are 1st level fighters of average ability (d6+4 hp). "Captains" should instead be called "Sergeants" (since the term Captain has a rather more serious connotation in Middle Earth). Sergeants are 1st level fighters of above average ability. They are made of sterner stuff that regular mercenaries, and can often be trusted with leadership or other responsibilities.

Also how well do the Priest and Physician heal people? Do they use spells?
Lastly if I pick my home language Rohirric to read/write/speak is there a common language we all speak together?
Thanks.
