Thaimos immediately flinches when he detects the noise and flashes, and apparently emerges unscathed.
He adjusts his outer ear to make sure his hearing is intact, then looks around the chamber, trying hard to make note of any details that were not there before...

The Red Grat-alepranon looks around to see if most of the survivors are nearby. He then clears his throat and intones in a hollow voice.
"I have foreseen this in the strange dream that we seem to have had at the same time. That beast was no accident but a messenger sent to destroy those of us who are the strongest. The thing that sets itself against us underestimated us. If we set ourselves against it in turn, we will need to have flesh, much flesh to battle alongside us. Let us gather those remaining in the cars who are the most able, bring them with us as we seek our freedom from this accursed tunnel, and defeat the plans of the Thing that would Eat our souls."
(In other words - hirelings and meat shields! For free, if we persuade them that we know/can find the exit.)

Those of you who can still see and hear observe the following:
The chamber under the Shaft is now brightly lit by the intense white light from the wall sconces. Whatever fuel they're burning is not your everyday lamp oil.
Enough light shines through the door that Breath forced open that you can vaguely see inside. It appears to be a small control room. There is a desk with some high-tech gadgets, and pegs on the wall from which hang a variety of tools (shovels, picks, etc).
"Ahoy there!" calls a voice from the tunnel to the East (the direction you were traveling before the accident). "I am the Foreman of the Central Shaft. Me and my crew were working further down the track when we heard an explosion and came running. What is your status?"
Because of the brilliant light directly above, it is impossible to see the speaker in the dark tunnel ahead. From his voice and the sound of many boots splashing through the muck, he is but a stone's throw distant.

Thaimos cups his hands and calls out to the Foreman: "Our monorail crashed! We have wounded!"
He makes his way toward the control room beyond the door.

"Mmmm... Very impressive! It is good to have such power among us, skeleton woman. My name is The Shadow Of The Evermore." He does not extend a hand, but nods his head slightly in reverence. (Ummm... obviously, this was done before the flash bangs went off in our faces!) "And I am Breath of New Moon. Let us..." but at that moment she is interrupted by the flare! She takes an instinctive step backwards, and rubs at her eyes in an attempt to clear them. Her panic level begins to rise as each passing moment fails to bring relief. She remains crouched down near the door. ((OOC: She is oblivious to the approach of the "Foreman" as she is still blinded & deafened...))

The Foreman steps forward into the circle of light. He is a bearded, powerfully-set Green Man, dressed in heavy-duty padded coveralls, a miner's helmet with glowing headlamp, and carrying a pick. He is filthy with soot and grime from his labors in the Tunnel.
"Where are the wounded? My men will tend to them. There is a communication device in the control room I can use to call for help, and first-aid supplies."
He scowls on seeing the damaged door and disapprovingly rattles a large key ring attached to a chain on his belt.
Thaimos is standing half-in, half-out of the control room. A quick glance reveals an assortment of helmets, picks, sledges, shovels, and other tools hanging from pegs, a half-dozen metal lockers, a large white box with a red cross, and a desk with complicated-looking levers, dials, buttons, etc.

Fated to Die (quietly, to his pack slave) "Open one of the bags, let us see what is within..." It is unwise to blatantly inventory your loot under the Foreman's watchful eye! However, you unzip a corner of a bag and sneak a quick peek at the contents. You see the clothing of a refined "man about town" and a letter-sized leather folder sealed with wax. It will surely make for interesting reading when you are in a place of leisure!

Fated to Die motions his slaves to zip up the bags and stand in front of them, concealing them from view.
(pointing to severed tentacles) "Foreman, what is your protocol for withstanding the depredations of rampaging beasts?"

The Sovereign Mark of All Who See finally steps to the forefront, interposing himself between the Foreman and the monorail refugees, fail still in hand.
"Stop, Green Man. If you and your men have been working down in this shaft, why wasn't the abortion killed before now? Explain yourself."

Looking back at the Foreman, Thaimos gives a half-smile. It seems to say "There's no way I, with my physique, could have damaged the door in that way."
He grabs the white box with the red cross, presumably the first aid kit, and, exiting the control room, holds it out, hoping maybe the Foreman is able to put it to better use.
Then, Thaimos speaks: "Our wounded are in the collapsed cars. From the noises I heard in First Class, apparently that is where the worst cases are. By the way, were you aware that there are odd monstrosities down here? I'd chalk it up to some bad Chai'Mat, but my companions here saw it as well. If we hadn't all fought bravely, you would not be talking to us now."

The Foreman accepts the proffered first aid kit without comment. He looks at the severed tentacles and shrugs. "These... things... are really no more than a nuisance, too small to cause this amount of damage; whatever destroyed the engine must have been much more massive.
"I will contact the station and have them send another car to pick you all up. You'll be on your way in just a little bit, so get back in the Coach carriage where you can wait safely."
As he speaks, a dozen workers move forward to stand behind him. They are barely recognizable as white men beneath a thick layer of soot, their posture stooped from too much time working in tight quarters and their eyes blinking in the bright light. You get the unspoken sensation that the Green Foreman looks down upon them for their skin color and they are nothing more than slaves to him. Their clothing and equipment is clearly of lesser quality than his own. He barks a few commands in a foreign language (does anyone speak Green?) and hands the first aid kit to them, who begin moving purposefully toward the first-class carriage.
"Well, back to Coach with you. It's not safe out here in the tunnel. Help me by calming down the coach passengers and organizing the worst wounded." He turns and strides toward the control room.

The Red Grat-alepranon looks for official markings or some sort of indication that this Foreman is who he says he is.
"Have there been other attacks like this? Did you receive any warnings?"

The Sovereign Mask of All Who See holds his ground, motionless, ignoring the Forman's request. The Purple Man adjusts his copper mask, looking suspiciously at the white man in the distance. He is eager to hear the answer to the Red Man's quarry.

Breath of New Moon remains hunched quietly by the door, oblivious to her surroundings. Physically, she remains still and looks to be perhaps resting.

Thaimos surveys the area and his companions.
"I think we should make our way to the engine. I'd like to see if we can figure what smashed our ride, and where it went."
He takes the box of Chai'Mat Red out of his pocket and places a pinch in his mouth. Inside the box looks to be black and red shavings of something.
He waits, hoping someone will come with him on his trek. If his companions appear to have recovered their senses, he repeats the request.

I focus on my sense of smell, and as I lean against the wall I try to tell if I can feel any vibrations. "I'm sorry, I can't hear you. This should pass in a moment."

The ringing in Servitor and Breath's ears subsides (sorry Shadow! the dice are not your friend today) and you make out the sound of an argument between your companions and a gruff-voiced stranger.
"...doubt my credentials, do you? No man can deny that I am the Foreman of the Bloody Pit!"
His voice becomes increasingly agitated as he screams, "Proof? You want proof??? My PROOF is... right... HERE!"
With that, he lifts his mighty pickaxe from his shoulder and takes a wide swing at the insubordinate Sovereign Mark of All Who See!
Ladies and gentlemen, as the Foreman is a "boss" type opponent, we have our first example of Man-to-Man combat!
Initiative is rolled: PC's 1, Foreman 6 (ouch!)
I will wait until Monday to resolve the first round of combat. Please state your intentions.

Breath of New Moon, still blind but now able to hear the threatening behaviour, decides to "play dead" and remains in her crouched position. However, her hand tightens on her Glaive, ready to bring it up if she should be attacked.

Feeling luck he never took off his armor, the Sovereign Mask of All Who See retaliates against the Foreman with his flail, assuming the first swing against him does not end his sad existence.

Feeling luck he never took off his armor, the Sovereign Mask of All Who See retaliates against the Foreman with his flail, assuming the first swing against him does not end his sad existence. Well let's see about that... We'll treat the Foreman's pick as a morning star, this means he needs to roll an 8 on 2d6 to hit your plate mail. He attacks three times: 2+2 = 4 4+3 = 7 1+2 = 3 He swings wide and misses you completely! (I didn't fudge the dice; you just got incredibly lucky, Mr. 3 Hit Points.) I will wait until Monday to resolve your retaliatory attack. Also there is the slight matter of 12 psychopathic White Men...

[OOC] Can we get a rough map or something? I've lost track of the surroundings. Are the two ends of the tunnel the only exits? Does the control room have an exit? Does it appear to be an elevator? Where are the White Men? Can I get to the shelter of a car without being attacked?
I'm looking for ways out of this fight...
