Ever since seeing Ray Harryhausen's classic skeleton animations in The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad and Jason and the Argonauts, has there ever been a better undead foe? No surprise then that skeletons won. Though I must admit to having a soft spot for stirges since their ecology of was featured in the first Dragon magazine I owned (#83).

I would like to see LotRs done in claymation! Yes! And make it look aesthetically as close to JRR Tolkien's drawings as possible.

If any of you guys ever participate in any of my games, you'll find I often depict and describe my monsters as similar to Harryhausen's claymation creations. That just seems the right kind of other-worldly to me, like "Oh, I'm looking at something not entirely natural here."

Once again the MM has a lot of classic monsters in the T section. FF doesn't have a clear choice. So it's up to you to choose which ones go on to fight.
As for the MM2 the Tarrasque seems the obvious choice. Though Dark Sun (and Gor) fans may suggest the Thri-Kreen.

Finally the MM2's chance to catch up with the MM! All it needs is for the Tarrasque to get 95 votes.
But, will the Tween be the foil? Get your votes in now.

I voted Tarrasque simply because of the role it played in the background of my main campaign setting. There was a very memorable battle with one, once upon a time. The heroes suited up in the fantasy version of the Megazord and it was the Royal Rumble, quite literally.

In 7th grade the science teacher, who ran D&D for us at lunch, borrowed my copy of the FF and photocopied the Umpleby page. The creature joined our party and was a real nuisance until we managed to ditch it by setting off an avalanche on a narrow mountain pass while it was climbing up.

Umber Hulk is iconic, and you know me and the icons. Another of those "derived from cheap plastic Chinese dinosaurs" entries.

I have to pick Vampires. What an iconic monster. Not iconic to D&D this time but just for pop culture and folklore in general. Definitely not to be trifled with in D&D. "Now you will know why you fear the night."

My favorite vampire movies, in no particular order:
Lost Boys Fright Night Let the Right One In Blade From Dusk Till Dawn Dracula (1958 Christopher Lee)

Vampires.
Small Tangent Though it took me a long time to come to terms with Gothic Vampires in a stereotypical D&D setting. Seeing them used in other games without the Gothic bit-Runequest in particular (Hellpits of Nightfang and later Shadows on the Borderland) softened my stance.
WOTC would probably have a hit Netflix series with Ravenloft. A group of adventurers travelling the mists from domain to domain never able to escape back to their home plane. Barovia, Har Akir (sp?), Souragne, etc

Barovia, Har Akir (sp?), Souragne, etc I never thought of Ravenloft as a streaming series. Now the idea is stuck in my head. That's a good one, probably the best bet Wizards would have at making a successful "D&D" series.

I remember having a half-hour giggle fit over "water weird" when I was 10. That fond memory brings the win for me.

The first Endless Quest book I read was that one with the water weird on the cover by Larry Elmore. A great cover and one of the better pick a path books. I feel like Elmore did some of his best work on those Endless Quest covers.

I'm not particularly inspired by the X choices either. I liked the Xeg-Yi/Xeg-Ya creatures in concept back when I first got the MM2, but I don't think I've ever used them.
I'd probably go with Xorn too (I haven't been voting in any of these in order to stay unbiased).

I like Xorns but selected Xvarts for pomp and circumstance!

I went Xvarts. I recall them in some 2E products (maybe even CRPGs? Icewind Dale? Baldur's Gate?) as being a fun alternative to the same tired ol' Goblins and Kobolds. In fact- are they not featured in that 25th Anni intro set that was just released for free on Drive Thru?

I've always loved the weird Xorn, the great artwork being a big part of it, with one by Sutherland and Trampier each.
"The Xorn are a race of creatures found on the elemental plane of earth, but on rare occasions they will abide on the material plane for a time. Xorn feed on certain rare minerals which are the subject of their quest on the material plane."
Love that Gygaxian text!

"The xvart presides." It's in the size of their craniums relative to their bodies. Something like kobolds but perhaps worse.

Xvarts always make me think of Baldur's Gate, so I have to go that route.

I'm only a little surprised the Xvart did so much better than the Xorn.
On to Y monsters.
This one was fairly easy to choose from as both the MM and FF only had one entry each, and the MM2 had Yeth Hound, Yochlol, and Yuan Ti. I considered the Yochlol for a minute as Queen of the Demonweb pits made quite an impression on me way back when, but overall Dwellers of the Forbidden City is a far better -- and more old-school -- adventure. So it had to be Yuan Ti. What do you think?

Yuan Ti unfortunately suffered the same fate as Illithids and Drow. Overexposure in every edition since.
