I have chain, not plate actually. How are you recording encumbrance? According to Men & Magic my move should be at 9". 50' of rope is one of the things lumped into the 80 Gold Piece miscellaneous equipment.

I didn't even think of colors. Emerald Blade's Yarin is named Jade (as well as being jade, I guess) ;D He's wearing his mail with his dagger at his hip. His two-handed sword is strapped between his back and back pack (which holds all his stuff, except the yarin and saddle bags of course), or else at his waist, whichever looks cooler He carries his spear and will use his sack and saddle bags for carrying any loot.

I wonder how the "old boys" did it back in '76? MAN, wouldn't I love to see a pic of this sheet in it's original form all filled out by Rob or Gary or whoever!

As much as I love the simplicity of TSR's original sheet, there's something missing: You can put armor class and damage with your stuff under equipment, but where might one list things like a character's hit points, race or other notes

Never done a PbP game before. Maybe I should try. I may not get online everyday, but should be able to keep up once we get going. What do I do?

Thank you, Falconer! I've been looking for those sheets. Now that I have a PDF I can print at will on either green or goldenrod ;D
I recognized the Swords & Wizardry too, also classy (just needs to be copied onto cards).

Got my first OCE years ago off eBay. Just winning the auction left me feeling like Indiana Jones staring at that gold idol with a sandbag in his hand ;D When it actually arrived, I handled it like some old scholar, tenderly pouring over the ancient text and trying to remember life in a world before websites, CDs and mandatory seatbelts. Now I have two sets: the better one I keep in storage, the battered one I take out all the time just to read, if not play

"Player/Characters must pay Gold Pieces equal to 1% of their experience points for support and upkeep..." ~The Underworld & Wilderness Adventures
Was this supposed to be once a week (when 'adventures' took place), once a month (when mercenaries got paid), or yearly (when taxes were collected)? Being a percentage, did it even matter? I'd love to indulge in this aspect of the game to keep the adventurers thirsty, but how often should I hit them? What are your thoughts?

My post from Dragonsfoot: Really impressive body of work here. I especially like the ship-sized monsters ;D I had a Supplement V in the works, but Carcosa came out first, so there you have it. Ironically, most of what would've been in my supplement was in Carcosa anyway I like the idea of calling it Supplement VII. It should be a first come, first claim situation.

The ol' FAQ indicates that, via Chainmail, Fighting-Men and monsters get an attack for every Hit Die when fighting men or man-type creatures (i.e. 1HD or less). I've taken this a tad further (I think) and expanded that bonus to Magic-Users and Clerics... to an extent: Mediums and Seers attack once per round, Conjurers and Theurgists can swing twice a round, etc.; Adept? Once per round. Village Priest? Twice. Curate? Three times a round. I get my numbers from the Statistics Regarding Classes chart, under Fighting Capability. I may even allow an addition/subtraction to the last attack as given. Maybe a Magician could attack three kobolds in one round, with a +1 to that last swing? What do y'all think?

See if you can take a leave of absence, then get a temp job at a fast food place flipping burgers and mopping up puke. When you're done, go back to your "real" job and find out it really wasn't that bad after all

Should be noted that when Gary played, he didn't bother with grids but rather made "trail maps" in which lines represented corridors (maybe with approximate lengths), and shapes indicated rooms, chambers and points of interest (with notes on what was found therein written by or in the shape). I've always loved this approach but never considered it for DM map making... until now!

No references as such. Indeed, the terms are meant to inspire your imagination to create such beings for your own milieu. Of course, that's how all of OD&D is to be taken...

My campaigns assume a Masters of the Universe approach; in which the world as a whole is Sword & Sorcery, but there's some ancient technology that may be used by characters involving science-fiction elements.

QUALITY S&S films? That's a hard one. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is The Scorpion King. FUN S&S films? That's a bit different. There were tons of cheesy fantasy films released throughout the 80's into the early 90's, mostly shot in Italy for a fraction of the cost of what it would have been anywhere else. Some of the ones that stick out the most are... Doc Best post in thread! Do not take this man's words lightly. I agree with everything here. I personally gained much enjoyment from Deathstalker (even made a campaign setting based on those flicks once)!

Mattjon - Thanks! The ERB estate is notorious for lawsuits, so I think we'll have to pass on Barsoom, but your monsters are a lot of fun. We'll work up an article or maybe use them one by one - dungeon designers, if you see anything you like, put one of those into your article. Rock on (or fight on, rather)! Maybe make a regular Creature Feature column with my guys coming in one issue at a time. When you've run out, let me know and I'll post you some exclusives!
