Hi guys, I only recently learned that Steve Marsh developed a Mystic PC class, "a sort of a cleric" based on the mystics "of the Indian subcontinent". Steve's contribution was used by Tim Kask to inform the psionics system in Eldritch Wizardry, but what else is known about it? I asked Steve about that, and his answer was pretty much what you wrote here. He didn’t recall much more and, in all fairness to him, it was a long time ago.

D&D sure is popular in central Texas It is! I would have been at that gathering but I had to work. There are a couple of very good OD&D-based campaigns running in Austin TX.

I never try to trick the mapper. I wouldn't say I try to trick them, either. Nor do I use simplistic designs to make it easy for them. I let if flow organically but I also try to think of the purpose of what I'm designing. Is it to keep treasure safe or protect the resting place of a revered leader? Of course it will be difficult to find your way ... that's sort of the whole point! Adventuring is a difficult, dangerous profession in my milieu.

How many players are playing in tetramorph's campaign? Usually 5 to 8 players.

Or, do the separate parties game on completely different nights? Because, that's what I picture when I hear "old school" It’s the same group of gamers running different player-characters. He switches between groups on different Fridays, and there is also a second referee who run a game during some of our Friday night sessions. So, depending on what Friday it is, we may be playing in one of three different areas. For this reason? Tetramorph maintains a calendar of events within the campaign so he can coordinate what’s going on in different spots.

I’m a player in Tetramorph’s campaign.
Mostly? We've reclaimed castles from taming the wilderness territories and defeating the masters of strongholds encountered there. So basically, we didn’t have to build anything at all. We just laid claim on what was already there. Of course claiming it is one thing, holding onto it is quite another.
So, anyway, we’re taking turns clearing the territories around strongholds, with different parties running in different areas. I can tell you from playing the game in the mid-1970s and onward? This is a very “old-school” approach.
I must say Tetramorph runs a fun game. Nothing is handed to us on a silver platter, but if we managed to gain something by the strength of our sword arms or power of our magic? Then it is ours.

(Hello forum. This is my first post. Sry for my unpolished use of English.) Your English is just fine, and I like your idea for the spells.

I thought "Clone Wars" was pretty entertaining after I overcame my aversion to cartoons. It shows Jedi just being Jedi and not out saving the entire galaxy (no matter how far, far away ...).

I can say with no reservations SW, later renamed SW:ANH, is my favorite of the series. There are things I like about all the films, but SW was the total package. It got everything right (or at least right enough).

We should go as a group if anyone is interested. I'll send out an email in a couple weeks. Great idea! I’ll keep an eye peeled.

I think I remember Piper doing a review on the compendium on here and that it's still available. A quick search on the web gave me this: linkI did! Basically? The Compendium includes a new PC Class, a skills set (to be used with the new class but works just fine standing alone), and some monsters and magic items. The skills system can be used readily with D&D and TnT and I felt the supplement was a good buy for the money.

The kids got chops, but the CG facial mapping creeps me out same as in Rogue One. They've been doing this technique since the Darth Maul duel in Phantom Menace. The trick is to not overuse it or ever in a close-up shot. I still think Rogue One is the best SW fan film. Agreed ... CGI f/x ought to be the spice, used sparingly to bring out the flavor; not the main course. With regard to Rogue One? I enjoyed the heck out of it, and Solo as well. I'm sorry Disney has shelved (for the time being, at least) the idea of making more SW standalone films. I enjoyed both the standalone movies more than SW VII or VIII.

Not opening a new thread for this, but - if only guys like this kid could get their hands on "Star Wars", instead of some faceless corporate overlords. I don't know if you're into comic books or not, but there was a nice series titled "The Star Wars." It told the 1977 SW story but based on Lucas' earlier drafts. It was a fun read and if you're a trufan it may be worth your while to track down. Amazon had a hardbound omnibus edition, though I don't know about shipping to Germany.

...And this, ladies and gentlemen, is also why, in accordance with Fin and the rest of team, I am going to take an extended break from OD&D'74 for some time. - Don't rejoice, trolls, I'll likely keep my banhammer! I must say, in all honesty, I’m going to miss your presence on ODD74. [olde West accent] You rode in and really cleaned up this town.[/accent] You may have made a lot of enemies, but it also gained you a lot of respect from those of us of trying to make this into a home on the web. Kudos to you, Finn, and the rest of the admin team. If we ever get exalts back, I’m going to give you one!

So, maybe we should rename the thread “State of the Disunion”? (the preceding comment was made entirely tongue-in-cheek and in no way a backhanded jab at this forum or anyone on it)

Thread drift is a quite common phenomenon in group discussions.
As long as it stays civil, who does it hurt?

We'll never put that genie back in its bottle. We can't force people to play the game we like and not their own. Nor should we try. Fundamentalism only creates further schisms. The best thing to do is accept that different people play different things and to appreciate our differences, not eliminate them. I agree with my esteemed colleague. That toothpaste is out of the tube, you'll never get it all back in.

I think I'm "finarvyn" on every board where I post (with maybe the exception of the Ad Astra boards where I had to post under my real name) and have even started putting Marv/Finarvyn in many of my signatures -- because I see an online persona as a reflection of me. Agreed. I've done the same, of late. At least I have at the boards I frequent. When I was at a convention last year I had both Piper and DuBeers on my name tag, too.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should probably let all of you know the following. I am a Global Moderator over on the Murkhill forums. I regard The Perilous Dreamer as a friend and colleague. So, as much as I'm trying to be an impartial observer of this thread? This may still color my perceptions. I thought persons reading this thread should be made aware of that connection.

You've created a place for those of who love OD&D to talk about it. That is a good thing.
I won't be naive enough to explicitly state what people say about you can't hurt you. I've been around over 6 decades and I've learned words can inflict a great deal of harm, whether true or not.
Instead, we will render those words powerless by not giving them the time of day.
I will say this. Don't let your positive works be out-shined by someone who had a bad experience. There is little you can do about that person's opinion, so instead rest easy in the knowledge those who count, the gamers who post here, know this is a great place to talk about the best edition of the best game written ... so far ... who knows what the future holds?
