Oh my fricken goodness I so remember the amazing fun I had playing and running this game back in the days. Now, unfortunately, I never really had any experience with the original 2013 rules as vladtolenkov has stated, even though one of the players had a boxed set. But... Man... This game was tons of fun! R. Talsorian hit the ball out of the park with this one. Great score, ritt! I might recommend hunting down a copy of the GM book, "Listen up you primitive screwheads!" and possibly the first corporation book to assist you. Also, I'm sure a bit of hunting around on google will score you some great maps that you can use for your games if you like using maps. Another great utility item, at least it was for me, is the "Night City Sourcebook", if you can find that. Even if you don't choose to run your games in Night City, there is a lot of valuable stuff in there for the devious GM!!!

I doubt I'll mind at all if my copies (From the US printers) have this situation; I'm expecting them to arrive next week so I can't tell until then of course. As far as I'm concerned, having two books that detail faithfully the rules of the 1974 edition of my favorite game, that typically sell now for close to 300 dollars due to rarity, for under 15 bucks easily overshadows having a few 1/2 symbols being printed weirdly. Still, I can totally see the concern and the desire to have things 'right'. waysoftheearth, thank you so very much for all of the effort you are putting into this even after the herculean efforts you've already done to make this a reality. You are a giant in the OSR in my opinion. I certainly hope that there is enough interest for the hardback to become a reality, too. I'm 'all in' for that... And I'll spend alot of money to get it, to be honest. This is the only game other than perhaps oakesspalding's Seven Voyages of Zylarthen, that I'm remotely interested in buying now (After DD and Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerors of Hyperborea, I've got all I need for gaming awesomeness). And the teasing comment about 'time to work on supplements' is very alluring! I await further news on this front with excited trepidation

Hmm.. I wonder if some of the 1/2 symbols are indeed typed differently somehow as was stated above then? Like some in bold or some hidden character etc? Curious...

I'll probably also be mixing in some of Oakes Spalding's Seven Voyages of Zylarthen, at the very least much from his Book of Monsters. I'm going to be doing this very thing, myself. I'll be ordering Mr. Spalding's 4 booklets of Seven Voyages next paycheck, I believe... I love what he's done with monsters and particularly the pricing lists according to ships and buildings. Other great stuff in that game as well, but I haven't yet read it all. Can anyone recommend a good product that serves as a template for terse wording in descriptions/encounters? I'm considering Robert S. Conley's "Blackmarsh" for this. Believe I'll pick that up for that reason... As I tend to be way too verbose as I write things up. I could use some visual education in that regard! Thank you, everyone, for the discussion on this, also

Thanks, oakesspalding! Interesting find. I wouldn't have guessed it was an OD&D version of THACO myself... Nice work!

Hmm. I still might pick one up, but I do appreciate your input on the M&T assortment. As to the AL, I'm not sure myself; Perhaps that's a good question for the OD&D study board? I'll bet some of the folks around here have some info on it. I wonder if there is any reference to that in the Ready Ref sheets? I'll have to check mine.

I'm loathe to sign up for a gazillion services just to find out. Any suggestions from those who have experiences with Photobucket alternatives? I use imgur.com/ for my pics now. I don't use it for much more than my pics for my online gaming here, but perhaps it could work for you, machfront?

Fellows, with the arrival of the PoD physical copies looming for many of us, I'm pondering something. Now that we have an actual physical copy of these fantastic rules available, how many of us use such things as the Judges Guild Ready Ref Sheets to support DD play? Do any of us make use of the older Monsters & Treasures Assortments? ((I've never seen the latter; Is there one that is written for OD&D use... Meaning, d6 damage and hit die?))
I do know that some of the more lucky of us (Myself not included) have physical copies of the original TSR 1974 rules. And I'm sure that many who do own them probably make use of both the ref sheets and the M&T assortments. I guess, even though DD is to my opinion the 'retro clone' that most closely adheres to OD&D, that I am considering it as a 'seperate game' to OD&D simply because of cost as opposed to any real difference in rules between the two games.
But it's because of that near-identical gameplay that I ask my question. I suppose for me, it's the inability to justify over $250 for a box set of original D&D, that I choose Delving Deeper as my game of choice. I'm thinking, that with a copy of the Ready Ref sheets and an OD&D written M&T assortment, I'll basically have all I need to create great gaming!
How many of us use these two supporting materials in their DD game? And, secondarily, what other resources do YOU use at your table, when playing Delving Deeper? (Or, OD&D for that matter?).

You know, with this fantastic book on the way... A copy of the Judges Guild Ready Ref Sheets, and (I think; As I don't have a copy nor have I seen it) the old TSR Monsters & Treasures assortment, one could simply play this game for all eternity! Haha. In all seriousness, the PoD as a physical copy matched with the ready ref sheets are going to hugely simplify my ability to play and write some stuff up for this game. I can't wait for them to show up.

My god, that thing's beautiful... Great job, artikid! Hmm... Next paycheck, maybe? I've already scored my delving deeper goodness on this paycheck... Yep, think this one's calling my name! Oh, wait... Will there be a physical copy of this made available do you know?

Wow those pics are beautiful! Well, I went through and changed my order to 2 copies, since Lulu has that shipping coupon... Just about a US dollar and some change more for than one copy after that! So my order is currently fulfilling. Can't wait to get mine! Thanks for posting the pics, Simon Fight on! EDIT: The 50% off shipping code is: SMG14

I suppose my issue, when I tried 3.0 or 3.5 (I don't recall which, now), and the really extraordinarily done (at least in my opinion) Mongoose Publishing "Conan" RPG that was based off of I believe 3.5, was that I eventually realized I wasn't making "Characters".
I was making "Character builds".
When I finally realized that, during play, I was more concerned with finding the most efficient set of feats for a particular class than I was in playing a character, and found myself reverse-engineering characters from level 20 downwards to satisfy this, I knew it was time to stop.
Please note this is simply my experience; I'm not trying to imply anything or impose my experience as the 'general experience of all who play anything but old D&D' or anything. But this WAS my experience and why I realized it was far more fun to leave things up for interpretation to the DM instead of play rulesets that seemed to hedge me into certain styles of play with a profuse amount of game mechanics. Just my 2 copper!
Have fun, and happy gaming... Tim ("Merctime")

Well, I haven't ponied up for a POD copy since I already printed out the final versions of the individual booklets. I'm holding out for the final, fancy hardcover. It will go quite nicely with my single-volume HC copies of OD&D and S&W WhiteBox. OD&D whitebox! I'm so jealous! Glad you have that, good Sir! My DD hardback will go great with my PoD version, however

Well, for myself, I don't have a group outside of the online games I PbP here. But those are DD or very close to it, so I suppose I'm playing. Believe me... I'd love to get a face to face game of this going on!
To be truthful I really want the PoD and the hardback because it will be far easier for me to get back into dungeon crafting with physical copies as opposed to PDF's. PDF's are hard to read for me. Can't wait to break out the old graph paper with a solid rulebook in my hands!

Good Lord, this is the best news I've heard all month! Man I can't wait to order this! And I have to mirror Merias... That cover art is really gorgeous! Fan-bloody-tastic all around... waysoftheearth, thank you and all who've been involved in this. I have been eagerly anticipating this for a long time... It's christmas time at the OD&D proboards!

Great things are worth the wait! I bet you and those kids will have a smashing time when you get to it. I'd love to read a recap of some of your adventures with them! Oh... And I loved the bit about "they can't be bothered with character creation" hahahaha.... They just wanna get it on and GAME it seems!

Those items are too cool, tog I especially love the wand of digging! ANIMATED EXCAVATION CART: This wondrous device is of old Dwarfish rune-craft, and bares many of the same over it's sturdy hardwood construction. These runes, requiring a spell to read languages (or magic; DM's call) for non-dwarves, give the instructions to utilize the device. There are three main functions to learn:' 1: One magic phrase activates the cart, and when spoken with a direction, animates the cart to move at a lumbering roll in that direction at a move of 3". This movement speed remains constant even if the cart is at maximum weight capacity (As a standard cart), or if it is traversing rough mine-floor terrain or at a slope of up to 45 degrees. Slopes greater than 45 degrees render it incapable of moving forward. Where turns are requiered, the phrase must again be spoken with the direction of the turn. 2: Another phrase causes the cart to dutifully come to a halt. Note that absence of this order may inadvertently cause the Animated Excavation Cart to go on until it may no longer do so; Hitting walls, falling into a chasm or lake, etc. 3: A 'boss', not unlike the round half-sphere used to reinforce a shield, adorns the front of this device. Usually cast of bronze, yet another phrase will cause it to illuminate as a continual light spell excepting that it provides a cone of light that extends up to 30' and is 20' wide at it's terminus. This may function indoors or out, and each speaking of the phrase produces light for 1 hour. Two hours must pass wherein no light is shed before this ability may be called forth again.

Please pardon me if this information is available elsewhere... I'm a bit short of time and can't search at the moment. I have heard of folks who say there is an OD&D version of Carcosa... I believe the one I have is the LotFP version. It's the one with the (wonderful! Awesome! Fantastic!) 800 hexes full of information in the back of the book. Can anyone tell me what the differences are, besides LotFP rules vs OD&D rules in the volumes? Specifically, are the hex information blocks in the OD&D ones? I'd love to get a copy of the OD&D version. I'm basically asking for help as to how to identify it, find it, and buy it! Thanks everyone!

Much like machfront, I really love this and would like to include it, but fear the list-tedium myself! Hehe. I would probably tone some of it down, though, as scottenkainen has already suggested... But this is truly excellent in my opinion and very usable as it is written. Kind of reminds me of the random tables of special abilities in Arduin, but a lot more under control, hehe. I'm a bit more of a fan of the original 'dead eye' bonus for archers that you post in the comments of your site, Zenopus, although I agree that it's pretty cool the ability you've chosen is representational of Chainmail. I just don't DM enough these days to have any real game experience in regards to if this might be too much of a bonus, so I'm just not sure currently. Considering what Merias said, also... This is pretty much where I stand these days, too. I think a 'backstory' is the story you tell after adventuring... If you survive... So this table would really satisfy a bit of before-play flavor for 1st level characters.

I really do appreciate it, guys... Gotta love pictures! I've gotten it to work now; My sig leads to my character sheets here And now I have learned how to post a link, and write something completely different than the URL as the 'title' or typed words of the link! That's pretty nifty. You both rule! EDIT: Woah! Falconer... I need to quote Mel Brooks now, after setting that theme, from "History of the World, Part 1"... ...Everything's so... GREEN!!!
