From what I understand from Dan, the 2e will be bringing LL into more conformity with BX instead of trying to skirt the OGL which was still a relatively new concept when LL was originally done. He said he basically made some slight changes in charts, rules, etc in order to not clone directly from BX. Now he said, the years have brought more clarity that he needn't have been as concerned as he was then.

No, "my boxed sets" refers to my OD&D sets. I'm going to put it in my OD&D boxes that I own. Sorry if that wasn't clear. There's no commercial intent here at all. That would be illegal. I'm a professional game designer; I know how the laws regarding copyright work. Sorry; I thought you knew who I was (not my professional credits, per se, but my interactions here, and the OD&D booklets I've put out for people to download and use). See my website at www.grey-elf.com/ to see how I archive resources... Jason, this week I was beginning work on a booklet/digest sized monster listing using Simon's spreadsheet. Then I came across this thread this AM! Did you ever complete this project? :-)

I made these sheets but can't find them for the life of me and the links are now broken. Did anyone save copies? I guess this answers my question. I've been looking for these and was hoping to get them again. (and was hoping you finished the races) I may work on doing something similar only have a sheet/ready reference for each Race/Class combo - Human Cleric
- Human Magic User
- Human Fighter
- Human Thief
- Dwarf Fighter
- Dwarf Thief
- Elf Fighter/Magic User
- Elf Thief
- Hobbit Fighter
- Hobbit Thief
My goal is to have a ready reference for each class/race combination to make things as "handy" for new players as possible without having to refer to the book. Skills, etc all bullet pointed on their character sheets of character "booklet."

As far as I'm concerned, and I may have stated this in my G+ Boot Hill community, a 5th ed compatible western style game by any name isn't "Boot Hill" any more than putting rum in a whiskey bottle makes it whiskey. Call it whatever you'd like!

and from the description above, it wouldn't be too difficult to do a hack job reproduction (I mean, that's all they typically were then too)

I'm very interested in scans of the originals or "historic reproductions" ...as I like to call them. :-)
There was a guy on G+ that mentioned that he may have original copies and may dig them out and scan. (or he could be either blowing smoke or mistaking the Greyhawk reference sheets for the original 3lbb ones. I attempted a modified set of sheets to include the Greyhawk thief a few years ago, but it wasn't a very pretty job at the time and I lost interest.

Is this still available anywhere? I've been re-reading the ERB Barsoom series and have been finding it highly stimulating for a new campaign.

First I've heard about it, but it looks interesting. ALso, I'm curious: has this been sanctioned at all by Rick or is this just an independent publication? (I was wondering if permission has been granted to use the term "Gangbusters" on the product.) Yes, Rick has been fully aware of Mark's project and even gave it a great review! Hoping we could see a reprint or retro-clone of at least the core game for those that haven't been able to procure a used copy on eBay or elsewhere.

Has anyone ever used the Combat Shield from the D&D Basic/Expert set as a DM Screen for OD&D? I've just glanced at it to see if it would be compatible, and so far all of the Saving Throws are the exact same. I usually just use my Reference Sheets from the whitebox.

A wiki would be available online, electronically searchable, and not require additional production effort. A zine would have discrete "issues", be tactile, and be enjoyable without a light emitting screen. The former could possibly be used as a content-staging-area for the latter. ...and a zine's easier to read whilst taking a dump.

I like the idea, but I know that I'd never have the time or concentrated interest to contribute. It would be awesome to have some more interest in a game that we wish was released to public domain!

Hi everyone. I feel so happy to have found these boards and think everything you guys are doing is great. I was into Fantasy books and history since I was a kid. In 6th grade around 1980 when I heard two kids talking in the first person about traps, riddles, fighting goblins, and finding treasure, I had to ask what they were talking about. It was Dungeons and Dragons. I was hooked. I found an older neighbor who DM'd his brothers and I through a game. All of our characters died, but I was hooked. I talked to my own older brothers who bought all of the goods and before long we were playing 1e AD&D. They got super into all kinds of rpgs. They eventually started their own gaming club/store where my friends and all played. We played Boot Hill, Gangbusters, AD&D, Behind Enemy Lines, Flashing Blades, Pirates and Plunder (meshed together with a couple of other pirate games) Traveller, Bushido, Runequest, Villains and Vigilantes, a little bit of Top Secret, plus a few others that I'm sure I'm forgetting. I was always a player. I've tried to GM a few times but, unlike my brother, I wasn't too good at it. Usually we'd all play both days on a weekend. One day was for just D&D, the other day of the weekend we'd vote for which other RPG we wanted to play, sometimes we'd vote for D&D on those days too. We'd also play separate games on our own without my older brother. In college I played only a few times, and since then I've played sporadically at best. As a teacher, who also has other projects going most of the time, my schedule is erratic and I haven't been able to find a regular group to play with even though I live in Los Angeles and should have a large group of people to draw from. I teach 3rd grade and use RPGs in some way with my class every year. One thing I do is a story time where I tell the story of one of our longterm campaigns from the early AD&D days. The students love the story, the characters, and monsters. They always ask where the story comes from, and I wait until the very end of the school year to tell them. I use bits and pieces of character creation from various games to help give them ideas about characters they can use in their writing. This year I have a group of early finishers who has created their own boothill characters and managed to play out a scenario or two in modified version of the game. Welcome! Thanks for sharing and glad you found us! I got my two boys hooked when they were about 14 & 10, now 4 years later, we still play almost weekly with other kids their ages and a number of adult players. I typically DM either OD&D/Delving Deeper or 1e AD&D. (we also love GangBusters, Star Frontiers and Boot Hill, but rarely get to play them much even though I've gathered complete collections of all of them) Role playing is a powerful tool for education! Keep it up! Feel free to connect off-board. I'd love to hear more!

Say what you want about the whole nudity discussion here. As soon as I saw the depictions of hobbits/halflings in 5th edition, I was pissed off.

Played the 1 page version of this adventure... Simon, where's this one-page posted? I'm loving this new scenario. Looking forward to booklet printing, reading, and hopefully getting a group together for some 0e/DD fun time. Our group has recently picked up the 5e rules and have been enjoying it more than previous versions, but I'm aching to get back to the pure simplistic thrill of DD/0e!

I did it again and again... I hear ya, bro. Same here. Yup I used to be one of BHP's most ardent defenders, things have changed mid-stream too many times, too many promises left unanswered sometimes for months only to get a new "expected ship date."

Looks great! In my experience, the only difficulties in moving to a digest size for formatting is the tables and charts re-sizing and re-wrapping the text and repagination instead of just shrinking everything to fit the page but rendered less readable.

The trick, IMHO, is getting it formatted so it can be booklet printed. The LBB's and their ilk were just perfect sizes for the table. Many of today's large volumes, including 1e, are so detrimental to table space and unwieldy!

....Do you use props or just maps? We use little plastic cowboys from an old "cowboy & indian fort" set and whatever props we find. (cigar boxes, books, wooden blocks....) We've got a growing community on Google+ at: plus.google.com/communities/110907697161298347511I've got a bunch of pictures posted of some of game sessions. And a bunch of other resources. Typically we use 1e Boot Hill, and/or charts from 2e. (they're both compatible with each other, 2e is only fleshed out more)

I like the idea of rolling high for as many rolls as possible too. It's been an adjustment from the 3llb's et al. but for the sake of a lot of new players, it's helpful to keep it consistent, so that's "how I roll."
Ilvarin, here's a 2nd motion for you to share your Ranger class with us DD'ers. :-)
