Delving Deeper is 10 years old!Yes, it's hard to believe, but V1 was released a whole decade ago in October 2012. To (briefly) reminisce about the shape of DD back then, see here. Of course you can still download the original V1 PDFs from way down the bottom of the page here. How things have changed! As something of a recognition/low-key celebration of this milestone I'm intending to push out a couple of DD5 related updates this month. Stay tuned

Delving Deeper is one of the best of the OSR. Thanks for making it.

I'm constantly amazed at how much creative stuff has come from the members of this board. Delving Deeper is one of the best, and I can't believe it's been ten years, either!

No disrespect to anyone else's OSR game, but if there is one better than Delving Deeper, I have yet to find it.

Congratulations! I was just scrolling through the annotated v5 alpha, and I think its fair to say that most Phd theses lack that level of care and attention to detail.

I think its fair to say that most Phd theses lack that level of care and attention to detail. Ironically, it's my own PhD thesis which is delaying DD5

I don't think you could rush something that detailed even if you weren't also doing a PhD! Any plans to (eventually) release the annotated version as POD?

Ironically, it's my own PhD thesis which is delaying DD5 Haha, sounds like a good excuse for procrastination - doing anything else you possibly can rather than working on that PhD, from finishing off DD5 down to polishing the underside of the dining table.

I think it was last year that I tuned into Delta's podcast and listened to a little of Matt Finch apologizing for some aspect of Swords and Wizardry. Delving Deeper came up and Mr Finch sort of brushed it aside as an extremist interpretation, if I remember correctly. He was put off by the eccentricities in the original game that delving deeper insisted on including. I've never played Swords and Wizardry. I've heard that it's a streamlined version of D&D. I'm more inclined toward Delving Deeper though. I hope that some other listeners to that podcast had the same idea about his non-comments that I did. And, I hope they went straight away to pick up a copy of Delving Deeper. Great game.

Wow. I didn't hear that first-hand, but I guess from my perspective it's a great thing for everyone that S&W and DD occupy different niches.
Personally, I love that DD continues to celebrate some of the uniquely quirky features of OD&D that were quickly filed off and forgotten.

I probably wouldn't have appreciated Delving Deeper without S&W pulling me in first.

Oh, I'm not trying to start a fight. After everything Matt Finch has done for the hobby, it would be ridiculous to fault him for some throwaway jab. It was clear, he wasn't aiming to malign another person's retroclone; just expressing some disinterest in the direction DD takes the game. Not his cup of tea.
These two games, Swords and Wizardry and Delving Deeper must be 98% similar, owing to their common ancestry. Only WE would take sides over that remaining 2% difference in interpretation.

I don't know anything about S&W so I am not qualified to comment on it, but I will say that Delving Deeper occupies the old school niche. Apparently old school means the uniquely quirky features of OD&D that I have seen disparaged in numerous places.

I've been running a forum pbp game of Delving Deeper since January of 2015. I decided to give it a try to support my friend waysoftheearth and found out that he had basically made decisions everywhere I needed to house rule OD&D, with interpretations I would have usually done myself. So it is a good, practical set of rules for the busy DM that still maintains OD&D's charm.

I have no idea how this original Eldrad profile popped up as I though it was lost.
