From each tentacle-stump, 2 tentacles grow. Now there are 9 tentacles.... the Kraken is a Hydraken! Nice! I may have to swipe this idea!

The hydraken is simply the kraken from Carcosan Grimoire mashed up with a classic mythological monster, swipe away!
I hope everyone is OK with the slightly slower pace of play the last couple of weeks? I figure it will work better now that we have a larger group, plus the holidays, travel, snow, etc. we can play at a relaxed pace.

I for one do appreciate the slightly slower pace.

I like a faster pace but the holidays and recent life events have rendered me slowed as of late so it's appreciated. Hopefully we can get back to a higher speed after the holidays.

So i'm just curious are we on a hiatus until after the first of the year? Sorry, I've just been feeling a little burned out lately, always seems to happen this time of year. Usually things turn around for me after the solstice--if we all live that long! Any thoughts/comments where people would like the campaign to go in 2013? Are we having fun exploring the Arkham area, or ready to start hex-crawling the published Carcosa setting?

I'd love to explore the published Carcosa map. I'm also still plugging away at a dungeon, so I may be able to give you a break if you want to swap places for a while. Or you could run it. Either way, I'm aiming to get it completed in the next couple months.

Take a break, recharge your DM batteries.
The Shade Of The Evermore waits patiently. Currently, he waits mid-leap, poised to strike the giant sea creature's pulpy eye, but he waits, nonetheless.

Any fun suggestions to reboot the campaign for 2013? I am considering implementing some or all of the following changes: - Switch from Chainmail combat to "normal" D&D combat (d20 vs. AC)
- No more "Carcosa crazy dice"
- Deemphasize large-scale mass combat
- More focus on sandbox-style hexploration and dungeon-crawling
- "Expurgated" sorcery rules (no grisly human sacrifices)
- 110% more weirder!
Thoughts/comments?

I'm back, apologies for the hiatus, but Chainmail Carcosa lives! Please check the game thread for the latest continuation of the Hydraken Battle...

Thoughts/comments? The method of combat doesn't matter much to me, as long as it is fair. You are, after all, the one rolling the dice. I wouldn't mind a bit of de-emphasis on large scale combat. It seems to slow things down a bit and always seems a bit overwhelming. More dungeon crawling. Good with not sacrificing live things. Weird is always welcome. My thoughts.

The only one I have an opinion about is the 110% weirder....
I say we bump it up to 120% ;D

We will finish the current "arc" (Dinosaurs of the Haunted Swamp) with the current rules and then see where the journey takes us. Fair warning that you must return the rental dinosaurs at the end of the mission (if there are any of them left alive) so you won't be able to take them back to Arkham. I will also be retiring Gunnery and Minion to the inactive roster, now that we have a larger group of active players we can trim it back to PCs and "core" NPCs (henchmen) only.

In case you were wondering I have decided to award XP going forward at the end of each in-game day (when your PCs rest and potentially level up) rather than at the end of the fight. So, yes, there will be some XP for the defeated Kraken, assuming some of you survive the day.

One of my 2013 resolutions was to make Chainmail Carcosa a bit more lethal/challenging. Off to a good start so far, I'd say!

Yeah I think you succeeded. The fates wanted me to survive clearly because Loyal Beast wouldn't have survived that dino blast lol.

A little bit of fear of standing near large dinosaurs is a healthy thing, in my opinion.

A little bit of fear of standing near large dinosaurs is a healthy thing, in my opinion. Probably, then again your talking to the party that has no fear of the enormous zombie behemoth with a Vestigial head and 3 wraiths as friends.
