I agree with the sentiment, but how are they going to know that you bought S&W? It wouldn't matter for them to know about "me", in particular. If enough of us vote with our dollars, however, WotC will notice, if that's not already the case. As much as we like to lambaste WotC, S&W wouldn't be possible without the OGL which was entirely orchestrated by WotC. The OGL is a move TSR would NEVER have made, ever, well not after Gary and crew had to sell. I agree. Bear in mind that none of the people responsible for the OGL still work at WotC, however. Today's WotC is not the 2000's WotC. Its attitude is more akin to T$R's right now, I believe.

... in the form of another hardcover book.
Voting with our dollars is the best way to say what we think to WotC. I encourage you to do the same.

I prayed for him. I hoped he would make it.
Rest In Peace, David. Thank you for the game. Thank you for the memories, the dreams, the opportunities. Thank you, for you.
You will be remembered.

Update from Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo:
My question: Has WotC asked the same thing from Paizo?
Yes. You have until the end of today to buy any PDFs you might want. Also, you will want to make sure you download any PDFs that you have already purchased. We will have a more formal announcement being sent out to all our customers once it is approved by Wizards of the Coast.

See here on RPG.net. From RPGNow: Also here on WotC's boards. My suggestion: get your D&D PDFs from Paizo while you can. EDIT - WotC halts PDF sales. Period. Modified thread title to reflect this.

I agree with Calithena. I too am not a huge poster on Dragonsfoot, most of the time, but the simple fact the boards exist makes them a very valuable resource indeed.
As a rally point, a place to find your way through the maze of sites and opportunities in vintage gaming, a place to talk with some of the actors of the early RPG scene (Tim Kask, Rob Kuntz et al)... dragonsfoot is awesome.

My experience with RPGs is very comparable to yours. I was introduced to the game via AD&D but started running games with Mentzer (the red boxed set on). Played tons of RPGs, including AD&D and 2nd ed, came back to D&D via Third Ed, and came back to AD&D and OD&D when 4e was announced.
I guess I find exactly the kind of different appeal Gary was talking about in both OD&D and AD&D (and in 3rd edition/Pathfinder at AD&Dside-extreme of the spectrum). I like and run them both, depending on my inclinations of the moment. They complement each other really well, in my opinion.
I too feel that OD&D truly shines when players and referee are mature enough to handle it (and by this I don't mean to say "serious" or "artists" or any crap like that, no. I just mean people who can manage with the very loose frame of OD&D's rules and exploit them to their own imaginative ends - that's what I mean, and that doesn't really have anything to do with "age" or "seriousness", really).
Now, is it "normal" to get back to OD&D and the roots of the hobby after a certain point in time? I do not know. It made sense to me, though it took me some time to realize what was going on (more of this on my blog - link in my sig). I don't think every gamer goes through that kind of epiphany. If they were, then we would all as gamers play OD&D sooner or later, right? This doesn't seem to be happening.
That OD&D has a much broader appeal than what some people looking at it as an incomplete, empty game for wargamers, thought? There is no room for doubt on this front, any more. The late popularity of OD&D is a testimony to its endurance as a gate to fantasy and enchantment.

Makes sense. I was just wondering, in case someone, I don't know who that might be, would like you know... to write a Supplement VI or something. ;D

In the old days of e-bay I could look at an auction and say "Hey, ___ is bidding on this. Maybe I'll back off and not get into a war with him." Now they scramble the names so you can't tell if it 's a friend or foe on the other end of the bidding. Darned e-bay. Same thing here. I hate these hidden names they got now.

I was wondering about the "Supplement V" nomenclature. Wouldn't Corcosa be technically Supplement VI, since "Swords & Spells" was the fifth supplement to OD&D?
Is it because Swords & Spells didn't actually bear the title of "Supplement V" on the cover?

Unfortunately some people don't seem to be paying attention to that. Well, a completely MINT boxed set that's been rarely if ever used... that doesn't go for $80 for sure. Personally, I'd be ready to pay in that range for a near-perfect, complete set. The sets you see at $60 are in fine condition, Nth printing, lack the box etc.

Bought mine (along with Supp. I and III) from Monte Cook. My advice would be to look for auctions on eBay. Keep an eye on the bids, be patient, bid strong at the very last moment, and you might win for a reasonable price. You could have a look at the Acaeum as well and fish for information/ask around.

Just realized I didn't introduce myself. Hello everyone! I'm Benoist, or Ben for short. I'm a Frenchman living in British Columbia, Canada. I'm in my thirties, have been playing RPGs for some 20+ years. I've been introduced to the game with First ed AD&D. Started running games with Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye RPG) and Mentzer D&D, and later ran First and Second ed. I went on to run and play lots of different RPGs, among them Stormbringer, White Wolf games, Cyberpunk, WEG Star Wars and dozens of others, and came back to D&D with 3rd ed. I've always been interested in the "old-school" movement with games like Castles & Crusades and OSRIC, but really went back to OD&D and its retro-clones after a long process following the appearance of 4th edition on the gaming scene. I have a blog where I discuss all this and the journey that is taking place from there, The Citadel of Eight. Hello again!
