I've been reading a couple of Robert E. Howard's detective stories about Steven Harrison. Love these old pulp covers from the magazines. Like this one but its from the 40s and actually a different magazine Strange Detective Mysteries

Elephants and Castles by Alfred Duggan About Demetrius I of Macedon son of Antigonus the One-eyed and the Wars of the Diadochi "Successors," the rival generals, families, and friends of Alexander the Great, who fought for control over his empire after his death in 323 BCE.

Anybody ever read any of Paul Edwin Zimmer's "Dark Border" series? Not yet but I have something else to add to "the list" now based on that cover art. Paul Edwin Zimmer was Marion Zimmer Bradley's brother, he collaborated with her on several stories. He was one of the founding members of Creative Anachronism. I don't know why but Steve Jackson Games used that cover by Kirk Reinert on their GURPS Fantasy book, has nothing to do with Paul Zimmer's stories. Which is frustrating because it would be great to have a GURPS source book for his world setting. A print of the whole picture is available on Amazon, it is clearly done with Paul Zimmer's stories in mind. Every part of the picture can be explained with his stories.

Lately I've been listening to LotR, Hobbit, and Silmarillion on audiobook, just skipping around listening to parts that draw my interest.

The first Elric novel I read was Stormbringer, and it was one of those odd sized novels maybe two thirds of trade size. I can't find a picture of the cover but I think this later cover was inspired from it. Elric looked utterly alien and Stormbringer was immense.

Do you gents remember any of the other Lexington gaming stores? There was Shahrazad (awesome selection of old used games), Paper Heroes, Red Rock. I spent I don’t know how many hours at those stores in the 90’s, they’re all gone now though sadly. I vaguely remember one that was on South Limestone across from the UK hospital. It had been pretty large and carried a lot of stuff. I can't think of the name and that whole block has been plowed under and rebuilt.

I spent most of the 90s living in Lexington and have been to Rusty Scabbard many times. I love that city and really miss it sometimes. Welcome! I remember hanging out as a kid at The Rusty Scabbard when it was within walking distance of the University of Kentucky. It was 1983. That store was my absolute favorite place to spend the little bit of money I could earn as a 12 year old. Heh. I wish I could go back in time and get a boxful of games and mini’s. Wow that is when it was near Woodland park? www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=38%C2%B002%2710.06%22+N++84%C2%B029%2734.59%22+W

Would the Romance of the Three Kingdoms tv shows fit into this genre, or the movie Red Cliff? Yes I think Romance of the Three Kingdoms would although I haven't seen the TV series, I will have to see if I can download them. I don't know about Red Cliff I and II, I've got the movies downloaded but haven't watched them yet. They are more grand historic movies about the fall of the Han dynasty and the rise of the Three Kingdoms? With the great generals Cao Cao, Liu Bei and etc. But I think we can discuss a wide range of Chinese, Korean and Japanese cinema

I stopped on the "Black Prince", wanted to stay with the battles of Crecy and Poitiers so started reading Donald Featherstone's "The Bowmen of England: The Story of the English Longbow"and I have become totally enchanted with Chinese Cinema from watching the Pluto TV Flicks of Fury channel, started looking for books on the Wuxia tradition Chinese Martial Arts Cinema: The Wuxia Tradition (Traditions in World Cinema)

Still working on "The Black Prince" little over half way. When I was twelve my aunt (my father's sister) took me to Europe. I remember her taking me to see the Black Prince's tomb, always mystified by the nickname but never really knew much about him.
