Definitely add the riding beasts.
Other ideas: * exotic trained hunting "hounds" * intoxicants brewed by locals * local legends * the possible but rare friendly trade village * local junkyards

I love it! I am also glad to see someone else is working on a project like this. Was afraid the Carcosa community was dying out.

Wow, it's been almost a year since anyone posted in this thread... Reviving it, since this fits the same theme.
After reading Crusssdaddy's information on Space Aliens, I was inspired to write up a program that calculated names based on the themes he developed. The format that follows is currently being incorporated for use in my campaign's settlement development program. This is to determine the title of Space Alien Arcologies that monitor & modify generations of captured Carcosa humans to influence their development or for domesticating as soldiers in some areas. (Also gives characters places to loot for cool space alien gear.)
The last name ended up pretty close to one of the npcs in Crusssdaddy's adventure.

Heh, I was seeing evegreens there. BTW, is it too soon to start collectively keying this? Sounds cool if you guys are interested! I am all for editing the map to fit the needs of a group project for this as well. Here is the full map It's about 1.3 MB full size as a .png file. Lots of blank area. I had cut the other version down to be comparable size to the original Carcosa map. Direct link to photobucket i1304.photobucket.com/albums/s533/Burning-Torso/EASTCARCOSAFULL_zps6c6146b7.png

Thanks guys! kesher, those creepy leaning mountains how I imagine a lot of the mountains in my campaign version of Carcosa. More like extreme broken lands than mountains though. crusssdaddy: That was gonna be an Arcology dome. One of the Space Alien social experiments keeping different tribes of men under the same roof to see how they do and don't play nice with each other. I have to give Needles some credit for helping evolve this idea when he made a blog post about (1980) Flash Gordon as inspiration for Carcosa. Started thinking that the Arcology dwellers would probably have exotic crazy outfits like the aliens in Ming's court. The Space Aliens would also use it to train humans as expendable guards. Though such an environment could also be breeding grounds for corrupting some Space Aliens into Irrationalists due to over exposure to the emotional humans. In addition such an environment would give reason to add some cool new energy melee weapons to the game, primarily used by Arcology gladiators and the elite humans loyalists to the Space Aliens. (Force Swords, Force Whips, Gravity Hammers, etc...) OK that got a bit longer than planned...LOL. @sirravid: Not trying to take it too far from wasteland, just mixing it up a bit. BTW area surrounding hex 1705 is a cactus forest.

So today threw together this map idea for the lands east of the main Carcosa map. Not sure if I want to keep it or not, though if someone else is looking for a quick map to start developing the east, here it is. Just realized I cut off part, though if I decide to keep this map will update with full version later.

An idea I have been running with in my Carcosa campaign has been that by default the "Logical" Space Aliens are genderless as they use cloning procedures to grow new aliens or possibly transplant conciousness to new bodies when they grow frail. However as a fail safe if their society failed, to survive certain factors would reactivate the genders to allow for old fashion breeding for survival of the species. For whatever reasons, like mythos madness, psionics and emotional development in Irrationalist Space Aliens, most of them may start to develop a gender. Perhaps even switch gender as needed (like certain real world frogs) This would make identifying most Irrationalists easier if gender traits become noticable. (Though some may still remain genderless after becoming Irrationalist and others may in fact become hermaphroditic.)

Until I hear back from Javaapp for permission to write up what he has here as a program, here is a partial screenshot from a 704 Yard map generator I have in the works: I got the most difficult parts out of the way (at least I hope) and now I need to add some menus and other features. Just had a test run with four types of icons in the pic. I have many more I will be adding to the program with options to add your own custom icons. It currently saves the map as a 2252x1951 jpg image. Probably won't be done for a few weeks, I only started on it a couple days ago. Though just figured I would try to get something out here that helps make map making faster and free. The focus of the design will be to make maps in similar scale to the one from "Fungoid Gardens of the Bone Sorcerer".

Hey Javaapp, do you mind if I write up the hex generator into a program? (been writing character and monster generator programs lately and the hex generator would be an excellent next project.)

Thinking about creatures like "Species 23750", it would make sense that the Space Aliens might have brought brought their own servitor races.

So I was pondering the idea of other humanoid types on Carcosa. What if the Serpent Men "uplifted" dinosaurs and synapsids to be servants as well. Trying to think of ways to do it that are a little less "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" though. One of the types I had in mind was a Dimetrodon humanoid. Probably be like a Lizard Man but with a hunched back sail protrusion. Perhaps some have begun worshiping their creators as gods and cultists are trying to resurrect the Serpent Man race.
Anyone else introduced other npc humanoid types on Carcosa?

Was having a hell of a time converting stuff last night. Here is a blank template similar to the one in Fungoid Gardens of the Bone Sorcerer. Hopefully it is accurate. If not I might need to set my computer on fire for all the grief it has given me in last few hours. I will try to convert the lakes to this format later on today.

Sub-hex 2027Deeping Path. A sliver of black sand beach provides access to the loch. A line of 1x1-foot stepping stones of red jasper lead into the water, continuing for more than a mile to the center of the loch. Anyone who walks this path and carefully treads upon each of the stepping stones is able to see and breathe normally underwater and is unaffected by attendant pressure, cold, etc. The path ends at a depth of over 800', at the edge of an underwater trench that drops into unknown blackness. Here a sorcerer may perform the 23rd Undulation of the Tentacled One invocation. The required sacrifice is a man (any color) who has never glimpsed the sea; the victim is cast into the trench and for the 1d3 rounds it takes the unfortunate to drown, the sorcerer may submit queries to the beast. Despite strong currents, the stones are never marred by sediment or debris. Removing any stepping stones disrupts the special powers of the path and calls down a curse upon the thief; stolen stones are replaced within 1D days by cultists of the Tentacled One. I really like this! Had great visualization while reading that.

WOW Oh I get it! You want to break up a 704 yard hex into a 66 yard hex scale. I hadn't realized what you meant. I thought you wanted us to pick a 10 mile hex and break it down to the 704 yard scale! OK, I get it, I'll start on one this week. I did mean as a group we take a 10 mile hex and break it down into 704 yard scale. This was just to detail the subhex 3010 for an adventure idea. Sorry about the confusion this caused.

I decided to grab sub-hex 3010 of HEX 0702. Work in Progress so far. ;D Each of the sub-hexes of sub-hex 3010 are 66 feet across. I am going for a "Caves of Chaos" type of setup for this location. The different shades of ground are the elevation differences rising up from the shore of the loch.
