The last word I've heard is the third D&D film (D&D: The Book of Vile Darkness) is due out 31-DEC-11. And even that date lacks a positive "this is when it is coming out!" sort of vibe to it.
Does anyone know anything concrete about this movie? Google is turning up info from NOV 2010 and a sprinkling of rather vague posts on various online forums.
It's odd there isn't at least a bit more talk about it, no matter how one feels about this (and the other two) movies.

Wow. I'd heard about it and then forgot about it, there was so little "buzz" out there. Personally I thought each movie had its good and bad parts, once you get past the notion that the movies really have nothing to do with D&D. They break "the rules" for classes and such too much and don't really seem to follow Greyhawk or any other established D&D campaign setting. The second one was best in my book, but I enjoyed the comical thieves in the first one. Neither was "great" but both are fun to watch when bored. I have both on my DVD shelf.

I haven't heard any more either. I agree with Fin about the first two movies. They were not great film but they were fun. I thought Izmir a very generic setting but, after hearing that Arneson had worked on some of the background and reading hints there was more to the setting I have grown more interested in what Dave had planned for them. I guess we'll never know now.

First of all, Brandybuck Christmas! ;D IIRC, the production slowed slightly down in the early 2011: that period was WotC's Darkest Night, with D&D Miniatures' line cancelled and books' scheduling rearranged. As far as I know, one of the last updates goes back to the half of October: George Strayton - aka The Secret Fire's author and uncredited BotVD co-writer on IMDB - said at the NY ComiCon the movie reached its post-production phase with no clear release date yet.

@ Azafuse: thanks for the information. Knowing that, I guess I can see why WotC has been so quiet about it. I guess nobody wants to advertise their company is in dire straits, financially.
@ JDS: I enjoyed the other two films as well. The first one was a bit "light" for my taste but not so much I didn't come away feeling entertained.

Not to be a grinch but I really hope this one is decent.
The second D&D film was not bad, it was watchable.
I cringed all the way through the first one.
It would be kind of neat if they would make one about the animated series with Hank the Ranger and the rest of the crew.
On that note, a film or tv series based on Joel Rosenberg's Gaurdians of the Flame would be delicious!

Yeah they have their good and bad points.... My favorite in the second is when the wizardess teleports and doesn't quite clear the stone! Nice reminder for al those MU's out there!

Kind of off-topic, but the best D&D movie I've seen is Your Highness. Very true to how a lot of actual D&D games play out, in my opinion...

Hahaha! I have to agree on "Your Highness." It reminded me of my high school games.

I haven't seen Your Highness, but I really liked director David Gordon Green's earlier pictures - George Washington and All the Real Girls. I think he'd be a great pick to do an auteur-y D&D movie.
I also haven't seen the second existing D&D movie; I saw the first one when it came out (on a first date, in fact - did not work out). I thought it was absolutely unbearable.

Hmm. Gonna have to look for that one. I've never heard of it. "d**n Natalie, you're a bad-ass chick...." - The Lonely Island, Natalie's Rap

My sides and my jaw muscles hurt after two hours of laughing (well, really 1.5 hours as for the first half hour I thought it was an actual adventure movie). Blue lipstick. Marlon Wayans' terrible lines. Ridley the Savior. So many memories.

Nope, but IMDb lists a release date of "2013". I'm guessing it will be a SyFy airing followed by a DVD release like the last one.

This may not be accurate, even though that link is to SyFy's website and it does state on that page it will show on Saturday 10 November at 9 Eastern. Another SyFy Original film, "Ghost Storm", says the same thing. So, I went to the schedule page and Ghost Storm is the one listed.

For what it's worth, tvguide.com says Ghost Storm in that day and time slot.

Okay, I just went to SyFy's web schedule and checked again. "Ghost Storm" is still in the slot SyFy's front page says D&D:BoVD is showing. Since the graphic said Saturday? I clicked the next few Saturdays and there it was.
If the information is accurate, D&D III will be showing 9 Eastern/8 Central on 24-NOV-12.

I've seen a good chunk of it. I was really tired though and fell asleep about halfway through. Not the movie's fault. I can say it gets points for morally ambiguous adventurers and a bit of sexiness. There were also some 4Eisms that made me want to barf. Probably a good movie to watch with your friends and give it the MST3K treatment.

I'm a bit disappointed but that is, more or less, what I was expecting.
I'm not difficult to please when it comes to entertainment, but I do wish they had tried harder to turn D&D into a film franchise.

Taped this last night, but haven't watched it yet. Anyone else had a chance? By shear chance I was flipping through the channels and found it was premiering last night. So instead of watching Notre Dame play I said let's watch Book of Vile Darkness. Honestly, other than a few cheesy parts, it was neither all that bad nor all that good. Just run of the mill fantasy.

I watched it, and agree with ptingler. It wasn't really any better or worse than say, an episode of Legend of the Seeker, except that the leads were not as likable as on that show. Some parts were distasteful but made sense in the context of the overall plot.

The scene with the undead child that (literally) sucks evil was genuinely creepy. It was kinda striking to have such an effective scene in the middle of an otherwise cheeseball film.
There's probably a little kid out there who watched D&D:BoVD on cable who got traumatised (in a good way) by it the same way that the Zuni Fetish Doll from Trilogy of Terror got my generation.
