The Monster and Treasure Assortment collection originally had an entry for Hobbit (set two, dungeon level six, encounter number 43), which was later changed to Halfling. I'm curious whether anything else was changed from the original entry. Could anyone here who has an early print of MTA set two (with F1007 on the front cover) please share the text of the "hobbit" entry? Thanks

It must have been a very early change, I have one printed on green paper, with a 1977 copyright, and with F1007 in the bottom left corner of the cover, and it says "Halfling Hero/Thief" for that entry.

Could also be a product of third-party repair/reassembly, I suppose. I have no insight into its provenance, and since it's not a hardcover it'd be fairly easy for someone to have replaced a torn or missing cover.

Surely someone here has a 1st or 2nd print?

Surely someone here has a 1st or 2nd print? No, I don't, and please stop calling me Shirley Sorry couldn't resist. I found a PDF out there on the interwebz and it's the same one Desparil mentions - green cover, F1007 Lizard Logo.

I've found the MT&A provenance to be very confusing. I think looking at PDF versions I've seen at least 3 different iterations of uncertain origins (with the same cover markings). In particular, there's at least one copy where someone took pages from the Moldvay B/X era product (levels 1-9), and sandwiched them between original separate-set covers. You can also see references to halflings in Set 1, Level 1, #17: ghoul entry, w/paralysis targets mentioned. You may recall we were wrestling with this issue in this thread previously: odd74.proboards.com/thread/13732/origins-neo-otyugh-brown-mold

There is a "more or less complete list" of MTA changes on acaeum here: www.acaeum.com/library/m&tchanges.htmlIf this genuinely is complete, then it's only the name on the Hobbit entry that was changed.
