I got in a few games of the original Panzerblitz (Avalon Hill) this month. This is still a great game 45 years later. Plus you gotta love that cover art:

I played a solo Starmada game last month. You can read the after action report here. Photos are linked to my Dropbox account.

Does this other couple have any clue to your devious plans - or are they completely unsuspecting? One minute they are playing Clue and Ticket to Ride, the next you have them roll up 1e characters and spring Tomb of Horrors on them Oh they know I'm a huge RPG/gaming nerd, but they would never suspect I'd try to pull them in. I am still leaning towards Dread or something else very rules-light, because otherwise I'd watch their eyes glaze over. Been playing many more games with the wife, still need to schedule another gaming night to bring in more players. Some games, while can be played with 2, definitely aren't as fun and end too quickly. That's why we're looking at more strategic games such as Dominion, Catan, etc. Here's what we've been playing: More Ticket to Ride, and also now the Netherlands expansion board Monopoly Deal Chutes & Ladders Candyland (yeah that's right what's up) Enchanted Forest

My long time wargaming buddy and I are playing the epic Memoir '44 D-Day Landings Operation Neptune on a 15' x 5' table in my garage. It is supposed to be a 12 player game but we're tackling it two player. We have about 19 hours logged so far. Here is a shot of me as Axis commander.

I finally got Cthulhu Wars on the table and played through a four-faction game. Great Cthulhu was the big winner. My son tells me Cthulhu is not the most favored faction for victory, but in my game, nothing could stop him! A fun game, and I'm looking forward to the big batch of expansions (extra Great Old Ones, extra maps, extra monsters, etc.). Coming next month, according to Sandy Petersen.
Meanwhile, in the world of historical gaming, I played Stonewall's Sword from Revolution Games, covering the battle of Cedar Mountain in 1862, and introducing a great new regimental game system for the American Civil War. I liked both the game system and the battle situation, even though my game ended in a draw.

I picked up Monopoly for my iPhone for $1. A fantastic cost:fun ratio. So far all of my games have come down to who can get a monopoly going. I've only had one game where both the computer and I had monopolies and I went down hard. The computer had hotels up before I got a monopoly on Boardwalk and Park Place. The hotels bled me dry before I was able to make progress with construction of my own. Great game. Unlike Risk (which I can play against a computer opponent in about 10 minutes), a typical Monopoly game on my phone lasts an hour.

More from GMT Games. The Japanese won the war in the Pacific in Empire of the Sun (they didn't defeat the Allies in any sense, but they held on longer than they did historically, which is a win in game terms). The Protestants won Decisive Victories at the Battles of White Mountain and Wimpfen, from the Saints in Armor collection. And the Flying Tigers failed to stop the Japanese from bombing Rangoon in the intro scenario for Wing Leader.

I'm in the middle of a game of Genesis: The Bronze Age from GMT, an excellent civilization wargame.

I received Genesis along with Wing Leader, and have gone part-way through the rules. It looks like it will be a really nice game. And I'm hoping that Churchill and Triumph & Tragedy from GMT will arrive this week. GMT has been cranking out some excellent new titles recently!

Steve, the game (Genesis) will really gel for you once you read the extended example of play from the back of the playbook. Once I read that, all the rules made sense and we were up and playing in no time.

I've been trying to get a game (probably solo) together, but I haven't been able to muster the will to do it. Maybe in the near future.

Last weekend did a house rental deal with 4 other couples(non gamers) on the beach. Someone there busted out 'Cards against Humanity'. It was basically Apples to Apples but adult and deliberately offensive. I thought it was fairly lame.
I had a copy of Rook in my car trunk so I grabbed that one night and taught it to some people. I have a nostalgic fondness for Rook.

You have to be comfortable with your group, have an appetite for off-color humor, and, oh yes, alcohol definitely helps!

And still more GMT games. The anti-Prussian coalition won three marginal victories in Prussia's Glory II--at the battles of Prague, Kolin, and Krefeld. Then the Americans grabbed a moral victory (basically, a draw with bragging rights) in Mr. Madison's War. And the USA dominated in war and peace in the new game Churchill.
Also worked in a couple of scenarios with a WWII squad-level system I had not tried before called Valor & Victory--one American win, one German win.

I think I just didn't care for the 'game' as it really didn't have any rules to it. Just sort of a free for all based on whether or not you thought the writers of the cards were funny or not. Occasionally there were some funny bits. Not the worst hour and a half I ever spent. They had some of the 'expansion decks' .

Played with a buddy at the FLGS/pub this eve for a short while. Played Up Front, the scenario with the half track. I lost as the Germans (got bogged taking a chance entering forest terrain and then had a malfunction on the machine gun on it and my other squad got shot up) Also played an old SPI classic www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/5142/fighting-sail-sea-combat-age-canvas-and-shot-1775 found this game to be quite fiddly at first but ended up enjoying it some.

I find myself, for the first time, becoming obsessed with hex-and-counter games... I'll soon be playing a mix of Deathmaze and Citadel of Blood, as well as SPI's crazy game Sorcerer. I also got ahold of three issues of Arēs magazine with, respectively, World Killer, Arena of Death, one other that I'm currently blanking on, all unpunched. I'm a little giddy...
