I followed suit on the Hype train and picked up Machi Koro and the Harbor expansion. Lighthearted city building filler and pretty darn fun. Saw some people playing this at the CON I was just at. They were having a hoot. What is the ideal # of players?

Don't Tread on Me from White Dog Games. Solitaire as the British; the Colonials send me back home.

Anyone subscribe to Strategies & Tactics in the current, or recent past? and want to share the experience they had/have?
I picked up a recent one at the FLGS and liked it. The game included was 'GOEBEN 1914' a solitaire game set in WW 1
Did notice a lot of mis spellings, bad editing and such throughout the zine
It is expensive for a subscription w/ the games, and I'm sure some of the topics covered (modern war) would not interest me much

I loved the old Strategy & Tactics magazine, at one time I found a whole batch of them. I've heard other people complain that recent magazines are expensive. Looking at the copies I have TSR took them over at issue #94, for a long time they were $6, then issue #100 they were raised to $7.50, that was March-April 1985.

I played Wizard's Quest with my nephew (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/310/wizards-quest), which is a simple Risk-like game with a few twists. I had always played it multi-player with children, but playing it two-player with an adult was completely different. Anything I play with my nephew turns into a grim, high-stakes struggle worthy of the World Chess Championship. It's a surprisingly good game. Also introduced m to Titan (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/103/titan), one of my all-time favourites. He liked the battle board fights, but not the strategic maneuvering

I finished a couple of traditional wargames recently. The God Kings, from Compass Games, covers the conflict of empires in the late Bronze Age, from 1500 to 1250 B.C. The game begins with four factions in play, the Hittites, the Egyptians, the Kassites, and the Mitanni; then halfway through the game, the Mitanni are replaced by the Assyrians. The game system uses cards to activate leaders, recruit mercenaries, expand political control, etc. It's similar to the system used in GMT's Paths of Glory and other card-driven games. The Hittites won the game, with the Egyptians and the Assyrians not too far behind; the Kassites trailed far to the rear.
Then I played Saratoga 1777 A.D. from Turning Point Simulations. The Americans came out swinging as the British tried to get their formations organized; but the largest American wing was demoralized early in the fighting, and after that, it was just a matter of time before the British claimed the field. So, no French intervention in the American War for Independence--at least, not in 1777.

I rarely have the time, but when I do I play Risk or Civilization III. I sometimes play Civilization or Civilization II also.

I crushed my nephew at Sid Maier's Civilization the other night, but we did make a few rules mistakes (first game) and they were in my favour. I think I would have won anyway, but it would have been closer

Wow fun ITTD with a local tabletop gaming group.Played a WW1 card co op game. French game with art by a Charlie Hebdo (sp?)cartoonist guy that was killed in that shooting. Also a post apoc card driven game with similar mechanics to Dominion. Didn't catch the game names of those? Also played a 3 person game of Alhambra. Solid afternoon of gaming

My gaming group played this for a while as a quick filler game and found it to be fairly interesting. I seem to recall it was a little broken in some way, but played multiplayer there were some interesting games.

Prodded by the current Kickstarter for the Car Wars Arenas expansion, I grabbed a copy of the CW Classic box from Amazon and am gearing up to play that a bit. Very war-gamey in design and play from what I see - almost a Battletech sort of feel really. Should be fun!

I played a solo game of Starmada Compendium a couple of weeks ago. Still working on the AAR.

At tabletop day I played my copy of Antike II, an excellent 2 hour civ game. Here is the end game photo of a five player game where my Egyptians (Blue) were victorious. Attachment Deleted

I plan to bring a few wargames to NTRPGCON in June to play on the side if anyone else here is going and wants to hook up and push some chits or blocks etc.
Bringing: War of 1812 (Gamma Two/Columbia games) , Up Front (Avalon Hill), and will have Sanctuary (1982 Mayfair games) along.
I get free luggage on Southwest FTW!

Lately I have been jonesing to play a 'real' hex & chit wargame, but have not had the time and opportunity. I want some crunchy rules! The FAB series I have found has some surprising complexity to it despite the name. I look forward to playing some wargames on the side at NTX. Euro board games just not cutting it of late

I played FAB Sicily a while back and thought it worked pretty well. But it's not really an introductory wargame, as the game-series title might lead one to think.

It's possible that GMT may have the next FAB game, on the Golan Heights, out by the end of the year; if not, then probably first quarter of 16.

We finally hosted a game night with another couple, playing Ticket to Ride and Clue. I want to eventually introduce them all to RPGs, which I was thinking of using Dread for our Halloween party we throw every year. However I have recently learned of Betrayal At House On The Hill, and I think that will make a nice stepping stone!

Does this other couple have any clue to your devious plans - or are they completely unsuspecting? One minute they are playing Clue and Ticket to Ride, the next you have them roll up 1e characters and spring Tomb of Horrors on them

My 17 yo daughter went to a "party" Friday night. They played Risk while listening to classic Disney tunes, then went bowling. She's a wild one, that girl. It did get us talking though, and we're going to bust out some Diplomacy. She played it a while back in school, in her Euro History class (which I thought was awesome) and enjoyed it.

Anyone actually played the game GO that would care to comment on it as a game?
I found a cool vintage 3M bookshelf edition copy(1973) at Value Village today for $2.99 and had to pick it up based off reputation alone
Thanks

Go? As in Wei-chi, the Chinese game played on a 19 x 19 board with black and white stones? You could spend the rest of your life learning that game - rules are simple, mastery is something else. I suck at it, and I am pretty good at chess
