Hi all -
There are a lot of incredibly cool submissions that will be coming into the mag this time. As awesome as issue 1 was, I'm sort of pinching myself already thinking about issue 2.
But I want to know what the crew here is submitting! Jrients, what are you up to? Maliszewski is donig a wilderness thing for us, that will rock. I think Melan is doing another dungeon, the only question is how big...the bigger the better...but Melan's a star, whatever he can get us is great. But what's everyone else up to?

How to create Battle Robots for OD&D, to be pitted against the regular F-M, M-Us and Cs.

I'm planning on submitting an adapted version of the "Red Gem of High Cartography" an adventure I created and ran for my EPT group.
It's an unconventional dungeon-crawl with some initial scripted roleplaying. It can work as the introductory adventure for up to six 3rd-level "foreign barbarian" types that might not even know each other before it begins.
It has a few odd twists. Like players being given control over the party's NPCs. I don't know if it has the correct "old school" feel for Fight On! or not but I'll give it a shot.
I spoke with my player Seskimo, who did the PC portraits for my blog and she agreed on whipping up some art for it.

Calithena, I don't know about length. More than Tomb-Complex, but not too large. The large adventure, if things go well, is for the 3rd issue.
I am also thinking of something that's not an adventure, but it is just a vague concept now, so we will see.

Mattjon - Thanks! The ERB estate is notorious for lawsuits, so I think we'll have to pass on Barsoom, but your monsters are a lot of fun. We'll work up an article or maybe use them one by one - dungeon designers, if you see anything you like, put one of those into your article.
Melan - Cool, thanks for your submissions!
James Maliszewski - How big is your wilderness thing? I'm cool if we have a bunch of short adventures again, but I was hoping for one longer one.

James Maliszewski - How big is your wilderness thing? I'm cool if we have a bunch of short adventures again, but I was hoping for one longer one. I hadn't decided yet, since I'm in the midst of talking with Robert Conley about the map. It can be as big or as little as you wish. If you'd like something larger, I can certainly accommodate that. In fact, I'd relish the opportunity.

James and I are going to start this by having me draw a basic map then he will detail it. Followed by me finalizing the map with the details that James wrote. The constraint is that it has to fit on a 8.5 by 11 piece of paper. Right now I have a format of 27 hex columns by 19 hex rows. The upper left hex being 0101 the lower right hex being 2719. Using Book 3's five mile hexes this gives an area of 135 miles by 90 miles. The hexes are a little less than 7/16" of an inch. The Map will be drawn Judges Guild style like this one. www.ibiblio.org/mscorbit/beta/campaignmap19lg.jpgFor reference the Outdoor Survival Map has 43 hex columns by 34 hex rows. I was going to suggest this in the email to James but I think a good title for this map would be simply call it The Outdoor Map.

Maybe make a regular Creature Feature column with my guys coming in one issue at a time. When you've run out, let me know and I'll post you some exclusives!

I'll be submitting the next installment of "The Devil's in the Details", as promised, this time about those pesky elves. I will hopefully also successfully complete an illo of said elves.
I'm also working on an Adventurer's Guildhouse, to be used as a base of operations and, yes, some short dungeonfic. I started it as an experiment, but it seems to be working out: "Quest for the Lamentable Well in the Lost Tomb of the Madde Alchymyst Frater Perduabo". Or some title close to that.
Cal, I'll send whatever I finish your way, starting with my column. I realize that's probably too many submissions for the next issue, but you can of course just use the ones you want in whatever issue is convenient...

I have no plans at current - maybe some cleric stuff if you need to fill a page or two.

We do not have too many submissions at this point, although we have some very nice ones. Also, there's always issue #3 if we overflow!
If people just want to publish something, meat and potatoes stuff is always good. In particular I haven't heard of anyone submitting magic items yet. Maybe we should just do another one of those brainstorming threads close to publication time...

Oh yeah, I've also only got confirmation on one standard dungeon at this point, though there's also an EPT dungeon and a cool wilderness adventure. So we could probably find room for one more dungeon as well.

I've been knocking around an idea about magic swords in history/literature, but tbh, it won't be ready for issue 2. RL is destroying me right now.

Cool.
Another thing I'd like to see, not for issue 2 but maybe for 3 or 4, would be a good easy mass combat system, either abstract or with hexes. This shouldn't be so hard a minigame to design, but I have not ever been very impressed with published systems to this effect.
This could be anything from a hex-and-counter add-on translating standard character/monster ratings into unit strengths to an abstract minigame along the lines of those found in e.g. Greg Stolze's Reign (the companion rules) - just something that would let characters recruit armies and fight other armies in a cool and easy way.

Sure, Melan, if it's fun for you to do! You're a dungeon ace already though - that advice was more for an imaginary person who wants to submit something but isn't quite sure what to try out. But if you want to do magic items, by all means - we'll take 'em!

I have a "drop wherever you want" ruin, with a small drawing. It´s one page now, and most likely will need two pages.
Such a thing still needed?

What word count are you looking for in the 'small goodies' bits? I have some magic items of interest and maybe the odd monster.

Word count is wide open. What we do with that stuff is just put it in where it goes, in little sidebars, or sometimes assemble a group article out of different people's contributions, as with the "Artifacts, Adjuncts, and Oddments" column. Just make it interesting, cool, funny, or some combination thereof and we'll find a place for it.

I'm trying to talk Doc Rotwang into going halvsies on another goofy monster article. I'm kicking around a piece on magic shops.

I plan on contributing an article (or, possibly, a series of articles) about hacking new-ish RPG material to work with OD&D. For example, d20-ish monster collections. New monsters for use with OD&D rock. Lots of rules don't rock.
I've been using the former without the latter for quite some time now and have found that, in some cases, the new material actually plays a lot better in OD&D than in the other system of origin (Northern Crown being a good example off the top of my head).
I figured that other people might be interested in something along these lines as it opens up different settings, creatures, and other material for use with OD&D that are neat but would otherwise be in accessible.
And I can do it without requring the use of the OGL. Because I'm a genius (well, okay, and because attorneys are falling out of the family tree like coconuts from a tropical palm).
