I will probably end up making more of these maps than I will ever get around to detailing and using myself. Hopefully these can help DMs who need a hex fleshed out in a hurry. The hexes are 651.851 yard scale. Why? Because I am a dork and do most my work late at night and didn't realize I had too many hexes on my main template for 704 yard scale... I got like five (10 mile) hexes finished before I realized that. I will get around to a legend for the map icons at some point. yellow tan hexes are plains or at least low lands, gray hexes are badlands of various types, light brown are hills, be they rolling or broken. Dark brown are mountains. Vegetation areas are assumed to be mild in vegetation unless it is filled in with dark green. The silhouettes are for various monster or npc encounters. HEX 0606The lake in this hex is the source of a local undead outbreak. HEX 0607Subhex 1208 is a Space Alien Arcology. In my game it is a social experiment for the Space Aliens to train various type of men in ways that the Aliens might find useful. There are a number of nearby water processing stations that sends water via pipeline to the arcology. The light gray lines are pipelines. HEX 0608HEX 0706HEX 0707HEX 0805If you started characters out in 2005, these can help flesh out nearby hexes. The dark tan areas are ancient dried up lake beds. Light blue lakes have high toxic mineral content. HEX 1905HEX 2004

Those are awesome! Exalted.
What tool are you using to draw the maps? I'd like to prepare something similar for my Hinterlands game... any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks! ;D I am doing it with Paint Shop Pro 7. (I really need to upgrade someday) I have a blank template that I copy and paste the assorted icons into. Then when done I make a second copy of the map and I got two other overlays to fix hex borders that I put lakes/river on and another for the subhex number inserts. Here is the blank template to get you started. I have tons of icons but no easy way to manage them. If you want I could put them in a zip and email them to you or anyone else who wants to use them. EDIT - I had uploaded these maps at 2400 pixels wide format, though photobucket appears to have re-sized them all to almost half that.

I love these. I saw at least one them recently when I was doing some Carcosa web searches, and downloaded all the older versions that you has posted, the ones with less hexes, but many of these I don't recall seeing at all. If anyone is interested, the link to the Judges' Guild hex maps (which I think is what Geoffrey uses) is here: www.judgesguild.org/downloads/Blank%20Hex%20Sheets.pdf

Hey, Crussdaddy, post your maps as well! Yes! I am in hopes he has some more maps I might have missed. Would be cool to see them all in one place. Being 100% honest, his recent map work is what inspired me to redo my maps in a bigger format, instead of the smaller format you mentioned Javaapp.

I don't know how to do the thing where you make the picture show up in posts, but here's the link to the one map I've posted: thedoomedworldcarcosa.wordpress.com/2012/04/21/hex-1013/Still incomplete and and needs a lot of work (that dead forest/castle has got to go). I started in on keying it up, then tossed out most of the 1000 or so words I had written, but hope to return to it soon.

Crusssdaddy's Map of HEX 1013, linked from his blog over at "The Doomed World of CARCOSA"Here you go. I am looking forward to what you do with the area. EDIT - Not sure if the picture is coming up half missing to anyone else or not. I left it as is because 90% of the time the problem is just for me and everyone else can see the linked image fine.

These maps are great. We ultimately need 400 of them, plus a module for each. ;D

As much as I would love to do all 400, it might take some time...hehe
We should have a group project. * Have a map detailed on a group selected hex from the main map. * Have members of the community select a subhex (or two or three) each to do a write up. Can be simple NPC or monster encounters, villages, keeps/castles or dungeon, etc.. * When all sub-hexes are submitted, we alter the map slightly to have a map icon that reflects the nature of the encounter (optional)
For those that follow blogs, Joesky the Dungeon Brawler had his Carcosa adventure passed around and it was added to by others. That was really entertaining!
So anyone up for this group project?

I'm in. I nominate hex 0702, for no reason in particular.

If you give me a week to finish it, I'll have the Small Hex Generator, which will make this process a lot easier. I designed it exactly for this reason, to be able to more quickly generate hexes like the ones that have already been posted.
Or if some of you are willing, I'll post what I have already completed immediately and you can wing it until I am done.
Many of you might find this sort of tool redundant for you personally, as you have already created many of these without any help from me, but I am hoping that some of you will still find it at least moderately useful.

javaapp: I am looking forward to it! ;D Anything that makes map making easier is cool with me. I would also like to see what you have done so far. I would also be cool with winging it with what you have crusssdaddy: I had to check, center of the Bottomless Lochs. This should be interesting! ;D

Geoffrey has mentioned the map of carcosa being the top corner of four quadrants. If he used the bigger judges guild map for his world map, I imagine it would look a little like this: Lots of room for exploring.

HEX: 0104 HEX: 2004 Moderator note: Attachments deleted due to storage capacity. Maps can be found here: sites.google.com/site/hyadianschismchaosincarcosa/home/-hex-mapsKey Features of Note in HEX: 2004 * The Weeping River * Labyrinth of Ur-Hazag * Valley of Broken Mechanisms * The Oasis of the Thorned God Many (but not all) of the canyons are sculpted in strange fashions. Some have statues/busts of ancient races. Some more recent ones have images of humans of some long gone age. Many creatures over time have left their mark on these rock walls. There may even be lost Sorcerous inscriptions hidden within. Many Sorcerers have scoured these canyons in search of such secrets. Various tribes of marauders live in cliff side caves and fight over the best salvage from the Valley of Broken Mechanisms. It is not uncommon to find these people dressed in armor made from salvaged machines and dead robot parts. This area has also naturally lured the attention of Mad Scientists and Cyborgs seeking new parts. Sometimes the Space Aliens abduct individuals from the Valley and return them as Cyborgs a few days later for unknown reasons. Many of these Cyborgs have become rulers of the cave settlements. The Weeping River is fed from underground rivers and springs. The Weeping River eventually flows out into the Oasis of the Thorned God. I wrote up the Thorned God about a month ago, but need to find the information...

I do need to do that. Part of the trick will be some that them, like in 0103 and 0104 the landscape has areas that are darker, which indicate higher elevations. 0103 for the badlands and 0104 to represent barren hills.

Just a quick update on some maps sections I have been working on. I post most of them over at the Carcosa community on G+, but as soon as I can find a suitable hosting site, I will upload the high resolution individual maps as I finish them, then link them here. At this time I am trying to focus on the North East corner of the Carcosa main map. (Each hex represents one 704 yard per hex/10 mile across hex being details out) Moderator note: Attachments deleted due to storage capacity. Also would like input on map details/villages etc for the map sections I am developing. I have already asked some bloggers and G+ DMs who have done Carcosa games for permission to use some of their information on a number of hexes.
