Fated soars ever higher, riding the thermals up into the sky. If he flies high enough, he knows the sun is not out of reach...

Minion attempts to 'lead' the crustacean into conflict with the jaguar lizard. A clever ploy! Let's see if it works before we start the action... Minion [Cha 14] attempts to bluff the animals into attacking each other... [Cha check: d20=20!] Not only does Minion's ruse fail, but the lizard and crustacean seem to acknowledge each other as allies and fight with coordinated teamwork! Prepare for Round 1!

[orange]Gunnery[/orange] sees an immense, lurking volcano directly to the north. It is the only image he will remember from this dream, besides the adrenaline rush. Fated to Die will recognize it as Mount Voormith’adreth, lair of Shub-Niggurath, Black Goat of the Woods! one artist's interpretation: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8f/Shub-Niggurath.jpgIn its shadow, some insignificant specks go about their miserable existences...

Initiative: Breath 5, Crustacean 6, Fated 5, Gunnery 5, Jaguar Lizard 6, Minion 1!
Minion of the Unholy Fragnog's dream becomes a nightmare as the jaguar lizard and weird crustacean double-team him!
The crustacean attacks with two of its mouths (2LH vs AF 6 kills: 3, 3) and draws him deeper into the water.
The lizard is a true terror (HH vs AF 2 dice, 5-6 kills: 4, 2) and scrawks its battle cry as it flares its pinions for the death blow!
Breath, Fated, and Gunnery will be next to act, with poor Minion last of all. (Armor and water don't mix!)

Fated wheels and dives toward the volcano. Maybe these specks taste good?

Breath heads deeper into cover, not relishing her chances against two enraged creatures.

It appears Minion is on his own this round; his action?
Fated drops to a lower elevation and becomes aware of the lizard/crustacean/bone-man situation in the pool below the waterfall.

I am finished with my prep-work for Arkham so I hope you don't mind if I move things along...
Desperate in the face of drowning, Minion takes a swipe at the crustacean with his green axe [1d6=6!] and the blade strikes true! The axe deals [1d20=6*, 1d6=2] 2 hit points damage; not a fatal blow but the beast loses its hold on Minion, allowing him to surface.
* Going forward we will use d20 instead of d10 to determine die size, to be consistent with the new Carcosa edition.

Meanwhile on the Monorail...
Shade watches the sky lighten. Dawn is near! The monorail passes towns of increasing size, no longer small farming villages but medium-sized mixed-industry communities. Arkham must not be far.
Fated and Gunnery awaken feeling well-rested. They have only the vaguest recollection of the dream, something about being chased through a jungle (Gunnery) and soaring over a massive, extinct volcano (Fated).
Breath's body is curled up protectively in her seat. She dreams she is hiding in the jungle undergrowth while huge, scary monsters search for her. She awakens worried but adequately rested.
Minion is the last to awaken, with a panicked gasp for air! He remembers every detail of his horrible nightmare and will be a nervous wreck for the rest of the day.

Fully familiar with transitioning between two realities, The Shade of the Evermore silently watches his companions wake from their fitful dreams.
Without saying a word, he begins preparing for departing the train - making sure boxes of coins are closed up tight and he has his sack of gear.
Once in Arkham, and after we unload the corpse and settle in at Fated's house, The Shade will probably want to find a large heavy cloak that covers most of his armour, less bulky gauntlets or thicker gloves, and a hooded mask that he can wear in place of his great helmet.
You know, to make him look less conspicuous...
Then he'll start searching out high quality black pearls (100 GP value each).
(Dang... at a minimum of 100 GP per pearl, Shade can't afford ONE pearl yet, even with the nice haul from the worms!)

(Dang... at a minimum of 100 GP per pearl, Shade can't afford ONE pearl yet, even with the nice haul from the worms!)Since we are moving to "silver standard" economics I am willing to compromise. 20gp (1,000sp) feels about right for a ritual-grade black pearl, sound good? This number also allows me to measure ships in units of "pearls" for example a riverboat is worth 6 pearls and a galleon 60 pearls. I like the poetry of that for some reason. Don't forget the topaz and jade from the worm gizzard. If you can find a jeweler (and the party agrees, big if) you may be able to trade them toward black pearls rather than convert to coin.

Party treasure gets split evenly, bottom line. I've no problems with waiting to get my pearls... 20GP sounds great to me! So maybe one down, five more to go! I think the hand is going to be the really really challenging part, for sure.

Finding the hand will be easy; detaching it from the owner before its strangles you is the hard part! If anyone wants to say or do anything in the final minutes of the monorail journey then speak now. I will be starting an Episode 12 thread for your arrival at Arkham Station...
