From the bell-tower of the Church of Aylesbury, Breath of New Moon has observed a flashing beacon-light from a distinctive trapezoidal foothill northwest of town. Believing this beacon to be associated with the mysterious Mountain God (and eager to avoid the townspeople's reaction to the carnage in the graveyard) the party sets out into the forest at night toward the flashing green light.
Post here if you wish to join the expedition to Trapezoid Mountain.

Breath of New Moon attempts to make speed towards the hill. She's hoping to get there before any notification from town can reach whoever, or whatever, may await.

Very well-- Breath of New Moon proceeds with haste. Who's going with her? I will wait a few days for a roll-call before proceeding with the expedition to Trapezoid Mountain. Anyone I don't hear from by Monday will be left behind in Aylesbury to rest at the church (but can rejoin the fun at any time). ps If anyone reading this is lurking and wants to jump in, I'm always recruiting new players!

The Shadow of the Evermore stands up and looks about him, getting his bearings on where he is and what has happened to him in the past few moments. What seemed like days to him was really just a matter of minutes, apparently.
He grips the Obsidian-tipped spear tightly in his hands as thoughts of helplessness and despair wash over him.
Then he shakes his head, straightens up, squares his shoulders, and wipes all emotion from his face.
"Where are we headed? And what happened to the fat man with the squid in his belly?"
OOC: The Shadow of the Evermore will join the expedition to Trapezoid Mountain.

What seemed like days to him was really just a matter of minutes, apparently. And felt like 3 years to his body! Don't forget to update your character sheet with Shadow's new age.

Fated to Die: "I'm coming! I'm coming! To my side, Pack Slave."

We are proceeding with Breath of New Moon, Shadow of Evermore, Fated to Die, and Pack Slave. If anyone else wants to jump in at a later date, I'll work you in to the story, no problem!
It is a beautiful, clear night as the four of you sneak out of town. Based on the landmarks Breath saw from the bell-tower, the best route is past the Orphan's swimming hole, then follow the river upstream to high ground.
Now a decision to make: Will you follow the moon and stars, or travel by a brighter light? (I believe you have some helmet-lanterns from the train tunnel, yes?)

You sneak across Main Street to the northeast corner of Aylesbury. As you pass the old mill, you hear a commotion from the rail yard. The Green Man Monorail has returned to town after a long day's work in the haunted tunnel. You quickly follow the old dirt path to the river before they discover the mess you left.
Soon the sounds of town are smothered by the droning of insects and frogs. It is peaceful here by the swimming hole in the starlight... too peaceful?

A ray of moonlight illuminates your old friend the Pastor's tentacle spawn soaking in the pool. The squid-like creature appears completely exhausted and oblivious to your cautious approach...?

Breath is forceful in her opinion that we should be travelling by moonlight, the last thing we need is townsfolk seeing our lights and giving chase!
When she comes upon the tentacle spawn in the pool, she freezes quietly. With hand signals, she indicates for Shadow, Fated, and Pack Slave to back away, indicating that we all should go around. She's thinking that if the thing gets away again, it could report our position.

The Shadow of the Evermore stares intently at Breath of New Moon. Then looks back at the tentacle spawn, making such a fine target in the water...
"That thing sent me to the Purple Stranger, who held me captive for... for the time I was unconscious. I will extract my revenge."
He grips his obsidian-tipped spear tightly.
He is of the opinion that they should attack the tentacle spawn while it is unaware and finish the job they started.
"Such a monstrosity cannot be allowed to live."

Fated readies his sword. "I'd be Lord of that Church right now if not for that thing. Let's destroy it."

We have 1 vote to sneak past the juvenile tentacle spawn, and 2 votes to attack (Pack Slave does not get a vote obviously).
What is your plan of attack?

Fated to Die looks around -- where are the trees located that this thing would probably flee toward?

Fated to Die looks around -- where are the trees located that this thing would probably flee toward? The swimming hole is bordered by forest at three sides. The 4th side, upstream, is an upward slope of rocks and boulders. ....\...... ^^^%%%^^^^^ ^^^%%%^^^^^ ^^^~~~^^^^^ ^^~~T~~^^^^ ..~~~~~.... .~~~~~~~... .~~~~~~~... ..~~~~~.... .^~~~~~.... .^^~~~^^... ...^%%^.... .....\___P_ ......\....

"It's not worth the risk right now!" Breath of New Moon hisses.
Still, if Fated and Shadow insist she will help them. If we attempt to slay it, we've got to do it thoroughly. She'll propose we come at it from three directions, to try to cut off escape.

The Shadow of the Evermore sighs as he examines the surroundings around the tentacle spawn.
"I don't know if there is a good way of coming at him and making sure we finish the job... Maybe Breath of New Moon is right, as much as I hate to admit it."

Fated to Die: "What if I can draw it over here?"
Fated begins to quietly remove his armor and clothing.

"How? What if it simply flees instead of coming over? That's what it did last time." Breath answers.

What do you have planned, Fated?

Fated: "I will strip naked and smear myself with this mud to disguise my identity. You take hidden positions near those southernmost rapids, then I will stumble to the edge of the rapids near to the forest, acting disoriented and looking like an easy meal. When the beast comes to attack me, you will take it from ambush - my sword will be near at hand so that I can help."
"Well?"

Breath of New Moon shakes her head, then glances over at Shadow intently. His say will decide the issue.

The Shadow shrugs.
"Alright, let's do it."
The Shadow drops down low and slips off to one side of Fated to Die, readying his obsidian-tipped spear.

Fated to Die begins slathering mud all over his body, rolling in the muck to cover every ulfire inch of skin. He'll be ready to go when the others are in position.

The tentacle spawn senses Fated's presence in the water and slowly paddles over to investigate, making inquisitive cooing and gurgling noises.
Soon it is within spear-shot, in a moment it will be within tentacle-reach of Fated...

Fated stumbles unsteadily up the bank, drawing the spawn in and edging closer to the sword he left concealed in the foliage.

Breath of New Moon crouches low in the brush, her glaive down but clenched in two hands. She'll wait until the very last moment to strike.

The Shadow waits until the tentacle spawn is as close as he can get to where he can throw his spear at it with no fear of hitting Fated.
Once that situation occurs, he will throw his spear and charge in with his flail.

Round 1
(Missile fire is resolved first)
Shadow hurls his obsidian-tipped spear (needs 3; d6+1 = 6) and strikes the swimming tentacle spawn. But the antique weapon seems reluctant to harm the beast, inflicting (d10=2, d4=1) a mere 1 hp damage!
The ambush is sprung. Breath pounces on the spawn with her mighty glaive (needs a 4 to hit LF, rolls 6+1=7!) and cleaves the beast for (d10=10! d12=7) 7 hp damage.
Fated retrieves his sword but does not need to use it. The Aylesbury swimming hole runs foul with gore as the tentacle spawn is split in two! Its tentacles twitch and then go limp. It is slain!

Fated: "Outstanding! A quick investigation, and then we should continue on our way."
Fated swims out to the upper falls near where the spawn had been soaking, looking to see anything amiss. Checking the water depth, looking behind the falls...
