Who are we waiting on actions from? The DM to file his taxes. I should be able to post an update after work tonight.

Taxes? Filing taxes.... filing... hmmm...
Oh, right. I did that back in February. ;D
I SO enjoy not worrying about that come April.

Let's talk strategy for a moment; what resources will the party commit to capturing the sub? What's the plan? I think the Bagel is not seaworthy anymore which such a large hole right above the waterline... we'll need the submersible IMHO or we'll simply sink out here after it leaves us. But I'd love to hear if anyone else has any other/differing opinions?

But I'd love to hear if anyone else has any other/differing opinions? Ship hit points work like regular hit points, in that the ship is fully-functional until she reaches 0shp. However, because The Bagel has lost more than half of her shp, she cannot be repaired at sea. Fortunately, there is a shipyard and dry-dock at nearby Fall River. A more immediate concern is the loss of crew; a ship with less than 3/4 crew moves at reduced speed and will take 1d6 shp daily. Good incentive to board the sub and rescue the prisoners!

I need a marching order and tactical instructions for the submarine boarding party... We'll need to: 1) Guard the hatch (to keep it open), the submersible won't be able to dive with it open. But this may require more manpower than we have if the fish-men try to take it back. However, it also has the benefit of guarding the Bagel at the same time. 2) Find the control room, if we can secure it then the submersible won't be going anywhere. I think this is our top priority. How wide are the passages inside the sub? There is no need to keep all the party in one large group if we cannot all fight at the same time anyway. A smaller number of groups should maybe split up and look for the control room. We have 20 sailors to divide up among us, Breath will lead one group. Anyone else want to lead a group? Minion? Fated? Anyone else? 3) Any other suggestions/comments?

Ummm... The Shade can't seem to avoid the bizarre. No idea where this is taking him.
That sounds like a good plan, especially just keeping the hatch open. What is the Deep One count outside the ship at this point? With the four pulling Shade underwater, there shouldn't be too many of them left. Might want to make securing the hatch the highest priority, then consider securing the control room on the submersible.
Trying to get in touch with Migellito for input.

No Deep Ones in sight. The only 4 that you know about are underwater with Shade of the Evermore. There are more than 20 sailors left, but I figured 20 was a good round number for Breath of New Moon to personally command. Let me tally up the captured/wounded/dead totals on each side so you can plan your attack. LASTLY BUT NOT LEASTLY I need your help! We need a "look & feel" for this sub, something memorable. I did a search for "steampunk submarine deck plans" and found this site: www.heiszwolf.com/subs/plans/plans.htmlPlease take a look and vote for your favorite designs, with the tech level and aesthetic you want to be part of Chainmail Carcosa!

I like "The 'Nautilus' by Ash and Campbell 1888", although on a much larger scale of course!

Agreed. I think the Turtle looks like fun, though!

I like The Nautilus, too. It has a clean appearance, kind of like a zeppelin. It features an internal combustion engine (whale oil?) that only functions on the surface (so the exhaust fumes can vent) and charges a storage battery to power the underwater travel motors. Perhaps the giant hamster ball shooter tube could also be used to launch an Apparatus of Kwalish type device resembling The Turtle.

I think it is time for me to finally read Moby Dick... Embarrassed to say I've put off reading it for decades, even though I was an English major and I used to drive by Melville's house every day! Anyhoo, while investigating the feasibility of Gunnery's escape-pod-wrangling plan, I stumbled upon the following invention: the "New Bedford Whaling Rocket Gun," which just screams CARCOSA!!! to me: www.whalingcity.net/picture_whaling_rocket.htmlGot to love the 1880's, when real mean went whale-hunting dressed in neckties, dapper hats, and neatly-groomed mustaches!

Can't find the spoiler tags...

Can't find the spoiler tags... Just kidding about the Moby Dick spoilers; I am dumb but not that dumb! It's like the time my little sister got mad at my father, she was off to the theater to see Titantic, and my dad casually said (in front of all her friends, which is super-embarrassing for an adolescent girl), "Is that the one where the boat sinks?" "Daaaaaaad!! You spoiled the eeennnding!" Reminds me of an idea I had years ago for a fun party/bar band called "Spoiler City." Our songs would explore such weighty topics as: "The Chick Is Really A Dude," "I'm Keyser Soze," "It Was Earth All Along," "Luke I Am Your Father" (with audience participation: "No! No! No! That's impossible!"), and the Grammy-nominated prog-rock collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra: "M. Night Shyamalan Suite in G." ps I totally think we should all collaborate on a Carcosa Cookbook! Sounds like you've got the seafood apps covered; I call desserts: Dolm Pudding Pudding anyone? ok, coffee break's over... figure out your strategy, and I'll roll some dice after work tonight.

Oh, I know you were joking. I had a lot more written after that, but it got too weird, so I deleted it. I'd stumped myself and couldn't come up with anything after that was better and not quite too weird. Love the song idea. Was very sad to see so many Failbook snippings about how people didn't realize the Titanic movie was more than just a movie. Personally, I haven't seen it (normal OR 3D) once yet. I know how it ends. I will be AFK until Sunday night starting around 3 PM today, when I sprinkle myself with fairy dust and slip out of work a bit early. Making our way to Columbia, MO, to visit my mom in the hospital (surgery for breast cancer. She needs a good dose of "grandson" for improved recovery) and then on to Lawrence, KS, to visit friends who are expecting in less than a month. Unfortunately, we'll be dealing with Commencement traffic both at Mizzou and at K-State... blergh.

Random thoughts on a Friday: 1. This deep one battle has turned out to be one epic wandering monster encounter! 2. Proposed rule change: I'm not really digging the Carcosa "crazy dice." I don't dislike the idea--I think it would be a blast if we were physically sitting at the table, taking our turns rolling big fist-fulls of dice--but I feel the impact is lost in translation to play-by-post. Selfishly, as the guy rolling all the dice, I find it cumbersome and would prefer to divert that mental energy into story-telling. Any arguments pro/con? If we abandon crazy dice, would you want to switch to old-school d6's for everything, or to mixed dice sizes, for example dagger 1d4, short sword 1d6, long sword 1d8, and so on? 3. Has anyone seen Radagast's variant Chainmail system? Any thoughts? odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=menmagic&thread=7205&page=14. What you want to do with "your" sub? I'm thinking since its acquisition was unrelated to your mission, Miskatonic might let you keep it (assuming you cover the cost of repairs at the dry-dock in Fall River). Give me feedback whether you are enjoying the "Lovecraft Country" setting, or are you eager to cross under the sea and explore the savage continent of Carcosa?

1) It's actually going a lot better than I thought it would for us! 2) I'm good with whatever you like or is easiest for you. 3) No, I have not. 4) Depending on docking/moorage rates, we may want to sell it for scrap... heehee ;D. I'm liking "Lovecraft Country" personally, I've never played in Carcosa, so I wouldn't know what to expect there in any case.

1. Very entertaining! Epic high seas buckling of swash. 2. I'm fine with either - not wedded to the crazy dice. 3. I've downloaded it, but haven't looked at it in a long time.. I'll try to take another look over the weekend. 4. I'd like to keep it, I think that would be pretty sweet. I'm definitely enjoying this unusual take on Lovecraft Country, but would also be up for a trip to Carcosa itself at some point.

Heh, the crazy dice just worked big-time in the party's favor, giving the deep one Anti-Hero lousy hit points. 1) It's actually going a lot better than I thought it would for us! A lot of that had to do with splitting up the deep ones so they couldn't all attack at once, for example Fated knocking several into the water right at the start, Gunnery drawing a couple up the rigging, Shade fighting a few underwater, Minion using polearm goodness, Breath dealing with the slug situation expediently, etc. Plus the deep ones split their own party by taking prisoners back to the sub; had they been wielding 2-H swords instead of mancatchers, the odds might have tipped against you. Thanks for the feedback! If you want *spoilers* what to expect in Carcosa (which in my campaign anyway is the name of a city, continent, and planet) there is a cool recent discussion here: odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=carcosa&thread=7211&page=1It's very cool that we are using Lamentations of the Flame Princess rules because of the separate city vs. rural price lists. If you're heading to remote areas, be sure to stock up on hourglasses and spyglasses before you go! 1. Very entertaining! Epic high seas buckling of swash. 2. I'm fine with either - not wedded to the crazy dice. 3. I've downloaded it, but haven't looked at it in a long time.. I'll try to take another look over the weekend. 4.
