Ari-zona! Where the cactus are big, and the (mostly Sonoran) Mexican cuisine is excellent!

Do you gents remember any of the other Lexington gaming stores? There was Shahrazad (awesome selection of old used games), Paper Heroes, Red Rock. I spent I don’t know how many hours at those stores in the 90’s, they’re all gone now though sadly. I vaguely remember one that was on South Limestone across from the UK hospital. It had been pretty large and carried a lot of stuff. I can't think of the name and that whole block has been plowed under and rebuilt. I’m trying to remember the name, but I went there often. It was up a short flight of stairs and the owner was super nice and always there. Man I really really miss Lexington in the 90’s, some of the best years of my life.

Aberdeen (in Scotland, not one of the multitude of other Aberdeens). I moved here with the missus just over a year ago and we like it so far at least.

Are you from Scotland originally Flintlock? Have you ever been to Ian Anderson's salmon farm?

Are you from Scotland originally Flintlock ? Have you ever been to Ian Anderson's salmon farm? I'm not, I'm originally from Birmingham but I've lived all over the place. So no salmon farms I'm afraid. But I did grow up half an hour's walk from Moseley Bog, one of Tolkien's main inspirations for the Old Forest. (And fell into the bog on a near weekly basis at one point).

We are close to the Charlotte metro area as well- thanks for the tip! We will be hitting Charleston in the Spring. I haven't been there in about 40 years and I've wanted to go back for a long time. Good game store is just another plus

Just a bit north of Austin, TX. Looking to start a weeknight game up here in the coming year.
Interesting to read back about some of the Austin players, with the principal heart of old-school in Austin moving out a few years ago. Looking back at posts like that - and looking at the late 00s/early 10s era of the OSR - is like wandering in the ruins of a castle from a bygone era...
(to strain this metaphor, there's plenty of good stuff to loot from those ruins too, like all the blogs of that era, the zines, etc.)

I've got a regular group. countingwizard still has an active group, I believe. Also, I am considering offering things through meetup, again. That is how I got back into the hobby and I want new folks to feel welcome to old school gaming and to the original edition.

No harm meant, I was being a bit hyperbolic I don't mean to undercut the games of the old school players in the Austin area, I just saw the posts at the top of the page before this one about how a long time scene stalwart moved away and maybe went a bit too out there... Hope you post here if you go the meetup route, I'd certainly be interested! On a semi related note (though this conversation can happily be moved elsewhere), has anybody here had success in setting up an open table for old-school D&D at their friendly local game store?

Hey, man, some of us are still here! I've got a regular group. Yes, as a regular participant in Tetramorph’s game group I can tell you it’s very active and definitely old school. I’ve been playing this game since it came out on the market back in the ’70s and I can attest to its old “school-ness.”

Really, I was just trying to deliver the good news that some of us are still here in the Austin area. Hopefully, we can game together someday.

That is how I got back into the hobby and I want new folks to feel welcome to old school gaming and to the original edition. I haven't really had enough time to run (or play D&D) for the past two years; I have a 2-year old. BUT I am putting together material and rules to run a Judges Guild/Wilderlands campaign once a month online. If that goes well, I may eventually run a monthly in-person game, although it would have to be at someone else's house so the toddler doesn't disrupt. We'll see how well a 6-hour 6pm to midnight game does first. Currently compiling a list of JG & supplement rules/guidance; I usually stick with just the 3LBB's and the supplements seem to make it complicated quick. If anyone needs a list of currently interested players in the area from our old-school group, private message me and I'll send you a list of email addresses/names.

Genoa, Nebraska, is about 90 miles only slightly north of straight west of where Omaha sits on the Missouri River. Omaha used to have a great game store a generation ago called Star Realms, where I got my Arduin books and other Dragon Tree stuff. And Lincoln used to have HobbyTown USA, but they may be closed now, too. Sigh.
Thank ghod for DriveThru RPG and Noble Knight Games.

Portland is just a hop, skip, and a jump away though. So if anyone on either side of the river has an empty seat at their game that needs filled, feel free to message me!

For the past decade I've been trapped in a decidedly dull place called Nirgendwo (Missouri), being all too removed from that more exciting locality named Woanders (east coast). (I colleged in Minneapolis, and am orig. from the DC/NoVa area.) Nine years later...still stuck in Missouri. Four years later...still lost in the Hinterland. Thank Crom for solo gaming options!
