Kib takes a few practice swings with his axe to stay loose. He is excited to get back underground where he belongs.

GALAX yawns as he sits in the grass, waiting for someone to tell him what to do or what the plan is. He feels like taking a nap, he's suddenly very sleepy.

Erimus humphs, blowing out his moustache as he comes to a decision.
"I cannot stand idle while master Liam risks himself to whatever danger may lay concealed at the ruin," he announces, then puts on his helm and says "Hand me my shield, boy," to Nemmet. When his hireling does so, he takes a moment to check that sword, shield, helm and armour are all good and ready.
"Wait here for my call," he tells Nemmet, then strides up the hill directly toward the ruin, holding his shield defensively before him.
OOC: Erimus doesn't follow Liam (not wanting to attract attention to the tracker), rather takes a more direct route -- perhaps similar to that which the tracks the party have been following?

From a slight distance, Liam watches Erimus and Kib charge up the hill. He closes his eyes and shakes his head slowly...

"By Sarenrae," wheezes FENNICK. "I hate to see the party split in twain."
Realizing that he has little skill in sneaking, FENNICK adjusts his armor, checks the straps on his shield, makes sure his scimitar is ready to be drawn, and hoists his club, showing that he will obviously follow Kib and Erimus.
To the remaining group: "Can some of you with better stealthy ability follow along with track master Liam? Perhaps try to shore up the flank of masters Kib and Erimus."
To GALAX: "Brave Master Galax, would you accompany me into possible battle?"
FENNICK breathes a quick prayer for the safety of the group to his Lady Liege before following Kib and Erimus.

"B..b... b... battle?" GALAX squeaks. "I... guess?" He hefts his shield and spear in an uncertain fashion, looking very nervous and inexperienced. "Where should I go?"

FENNICK to Galax: "Dear brave Master Galax, have you forgotten how to wield your spear and shield? Harken back to our battle with the wolves which you have so skillfully skinned. You fought with great valor and aptitude. Please, jog your memory."

Liam begins the climb heading around to the "rear" of the ruins, when Erimus and Kib begin their "assault".
Climbing quickly the two begin to move around the rubble and not being very stealthy, the goblin who was in the shadows steps out bow at the ready, fires the arrow hits Kib but just sticks in the armor.
((Liam you can see that there is a second goblin who is lifting a trap door and starting to head down the stairs.))
((I rolled initiative separately for both groups of adventurers, Liam is next followed by the assault team. I will have Fennick and Galax use the count of Kib and Erimus. On another note Laric are you still here?))

Liam tries to get two shots off at the second goblin before he can escape to warn others.

FENNICK notices that Galax is in no condition to fight and says to him, "Brave Master Galax, please guard the rear and our flank and give a shout if more goblins come out from hiding holes."
With a silent prayer to Sarenrae, FENNICK will try to flank the goblin who shot the arrow (if possible, on the side in which the goblin hid), with his shield up to try to deflect any arrows shot his way.

Liam fires his arrow, knowing that the goblin has some cover but it's all he can do, the arrow drives right through the mouth of the goblin as he had turned and saw Liam, the scream never is uttered. ((Critical success btw!))
Kib's battle cry seems to have little effect on the archer goblin but Erimus having the longer stride beats the Dwarven warrior there. Erimus swings and misses, Kib does not though, it is a light blow turning off the leather armor that the goblin wears.
((Fennick and Nigel you will arrive in the next round))
The goblins is trying to move to get to the now open stairs but is blocked by the dead body of his companion, dropping his bow he pulls out his sword and swings at Kib, the sword bites into the side of Kib and blood begins to flow.
((Kib has taken four points of damage))

FENNICK yells, "KIB <cough, cough, cough> fall back!"
FENNICK attacks by raining blows towards the goblin's head and shoulders with his sturdy club, while trying to block an incoming slash by sword with his shield.

Never one to fire ranged weapons into melee, Liam will drop his bow and pull out his hand axe and charge the goblin. If he can cover the ground in time, he'll attack. If not, he'll make his attack in the following round.
OOC: Got to remember to go back and get my bow after this is done...

"What battle... " GALAX starts to ask, then chaos erupts around him. He stands there for a minute as Kib gets nearly gibbed. The world seems to spin for him... and then he hefts his spear and attempts to charge and flank the goblin that is attacking Kib, his shield held expertly now.

Erimus (presumably still in the thick of it?) interposes himself defensively between Kib and the Goblin -- hopefully covering the Dwarf's retreat -- and then smites the foe with his sword.

Kib clears his throat and spits onto his bleeding side, a time-honored Dwarfish technique for cleansing the wound. If things go poorly for his allies, he will rejoin the fight, but he doesn't think the lone goblin will be much challenge.

The little skirmish continues, Fennick and Erimus both rain blows down upon the goblin but they just miss at every turn, the goblin's own return swings are nothing more than feints as it is hard pressed to get any swings in.
Finally Liam arrives swinging his hand axe, the axe bites into the side of the goblin, who never saw Liam entering the fray. The goblin falls down next to the other goblin and with one cough and spray of frothy blood dies.
The trap door is up and reveals a stone staircase leading down into the earth, there is no light coming from below...

Liam quickly closes the trap door to prevent from being ambushed by an attack from the dark hole. Then he searches the bodies of the two goblins for anything of value.
He closely examines the swords to determine if they are of good enough quality that he might take one to use as a primary weapon in place of his hand axe.

Seeing that the current battle is over, FENNICK holds his holy symbol and utters a brief benediction to Lady Sarenrae.
He then tends to the wounds of Kib.
To Kib: "How do you fare hardy Master Kib? What aid can I give you?"
To Liam: "Do you believe these goblins are the red-caps that attacked our caravan?"

What aid can I give you?" "Thank you, friend, but 'tis only a flesh wound," Kib replies. "Let that be a lesson, Sir Erimus... next time we should let the scouts finish their recon before charging into battle. Next time, there might be 20 goblins instead of 2. 'Tis not the Dwarfish way to cringe from battle, but we are in strange lands..."

Liam also checks the goblins for arrows, for he and Laric need to replenish their supplies.
While searching the bodies, and in a hushed voice, Liam says, "Indeed, Fennick, I believe these are the same goblins we've been tracking from the battle. We should be able to handle the party we followed up; I just hope there weren't too many more of them waiting for their return..."
He turns to Nigel, "Thank you for bringing up my bow and pack, Master Nigel. It is much appreciated!"

Erimus chuckles heartily at Kib's remark, "Nay Master Dwarf, let it be a lesson to the enemies of good faith, for it is them that lie slain here, not us. Be they two or be they 20 I shall stand against them in a fair contest of arms! If it be The Lady's will, then the more righteous shall prevail no matter their number!"

The swords are ok...the work is not goblin but neither is it quality craftsmanship, you could use it. Looking through the arrows there are probably a dozen arrows that could be used....the rest...not worth even the parts.

FENNICK to Erimus: "While I admire your resolve, pious Master Erimus, I must agree with Masters Kib and Liam. <Cough, cough> We do no good for the Lady Corrine if we are greatly disabled in battle. My Lady Liege's tenet does state to smite evil-doers that deny redemption, it also states to help those in need. Reckless action may lead to her captors harming the Lady Corrine."
To the group: "What is our best course of action? My guess is it will not be long before another watch notices our assault."
