Berist will charge through the dust and behead the fallen mummy as it attempts to stand.
((OOC: Could we get details of the different hit dice and damage dice totals? I like the flow of the combat narration - so maybe these details should go in a different thread - but I'm interested in watching the Carcosan dice-type rules in action.)

Gimyip's shot hits the incoming mummy dead on. Mickek's shot at the same target goes wide but it makes no difference. The mummy staggers and falls.
Gozer attempts to exact revenge of the mummy that him, but is still shaky from the effects of the blast. Berist recovers somewhat more quickly, and his humming sword beheads the monster before it can get to its feet.
All 8 mummies are accounted for. Bothess is attending Sgt. Kelz, who isn't quite dead but looks in pretty bad shape, she is spreading MedGel on his wounds. Everyone else is covered in dust and rubble but otherwise moving around.

Berist will check on Buiq, who also seemed in bad shape, and tend to his own wound.

Gimyip drops to his knees, pulls the wineskin out of his pack and takes a steadying draft... d**ned be the walking dead.
[OOC: Can lost hit die be recovered? If Gimyip's med supplies will help, he uses one].

((MedGel will restore one die per application. According to Bothess, there is a Witch in Jaftgong who also sells a "vile potion" that will restore lost hit dice, as well as some other interesting brews.))

Having steeled himself to receive the medicine, Gimyip closes his eyes and applies a substantial wad of the gel to his eyes, forehead and temples, them swallows the remainder of the foul tasting substance. After almost gagging on it, he washes it down with a capital swing from his wineskin.
"By the Bleak Pit of Yyuthungnee," Gimyip swears, "that stuff is near as foul as those walking corpses!"
(OOC: How else does one treat a 3 hit dice head ache??)

Yashub-Yahad's suggestion to leave grants a majority to the "bug out" faction. Do you wish to retrace your steps, or "tunnel" out of the hidden room with lasers and explosives (as previously suggested)?
Or, does anyone wish to change their vote?
Under Bothess' care, Sgt. Kelz regains at least some of his strength and is back on his feet. Buiq died defending Gimyip. Everyone is sore and bruised, but the MedGel and a short rest soon has the group ready to move again.
"I wonder how they found us," Bothess opines, obviously thinking about the mummies. "Or perhaps the Lotus was attracting them somehow?"

"It will go ill for us if the Lotus is attracting such as these," Gimyip comments, indicating the formerly restless dead.
With them in mind for a moment, he moves to where the leader of the mummies fell, and casts his eyes over the body, searching for anything of value or curiosity that he may have been carrying.

Yashub-Yahad's suggestion to leave grants a majority to the "bug out" faction. Yashub-Yahad voted to leave before, so it shouldn't change the totals. If we do leave, Yashub-Yahad favours tunneling out.

Yashub-Yahad voted to leave before, so it shouldn't change the totals. ((Right you are.)) The party regroups, and Bothess says, "We can north, back the way we came; or we can go east."

"Let's cut our way out first and check on the folks we left outside," Berist says. "I'd like to know if they saw those mummies on the way in, and seems to me it'd be good to be sure of our way out before we go any deeper."

You've accumulated seven matching ruby beam laser rifles from the fallen mummies. The leader carries a pistol with a blunt snout, the thing looks quite solid and, hefting it in your hands, it feels quite heavy. You don't know what it does but you're quite grateful he didn't get a chance to "show you how it works."
The leader has a bag of 200 GP, searching the rest of the mummies yields another 171 GP.
How and where, exactly, do you wish to bore through the ceiling?

Let's try using one of the laser rifles to bore a hole in the ceiling where our map suggests the passage on our current level passes underneath the staircase that we used to enter the monastery. We'll see if we can first get a beam-wide shaft through to daylight, and worry about widening it later.

Gozer: "How are we going to climb up?"

Gimyip slings the mummy-pistol over his shoulder (if it had a holster, or else under his belt if it does not).
"I figure there'll be a big pile of rocks come down that we should be able to climb up," he suggests. "Better not be anywhere near-by when they fall..."

Gimyip takes the blunt-nosed pistol and its shoulder holster. After a minute or two of fiddling and adjusting, he gets the holster to fit over his armor. He practices drawing from the holster and thinks he'll be able to easily draw it in a pinch.
Berist takes one of the recovered laser rifles and points it at the ceiling. He presses the firing stud and a beam of ruby colored light strikes the ceiling and begins boring into the stone. ((die roll)) Berist notices, just in time, a drop of molten stone falling from the ceiling and steps aside. He adjusts his aim a bit, angling the beam, in order to allow the beam to strike the ceiling away from himself (and the rest of group, too). The beam bores up through the ceiling and, after a about a minute, he stops and looks at his handiwork. Holding a torch up to the fist-size hole in the ceiling, he sees what appears to be the stairway by which the group entered the monastery. The stock of the laser rifle is warm, but otherwise the rifle doesn't seem to be damaged by its prolonged usage.

Berist will make a series of holes along the circumference of a circle about four feet in diameter. He'll let the rifle cool for a minute between each firing, and make each hole opposite to the previous one, expecting the area inside the circle to tear free & drop down at some point during this perforation.

Gimyip picks up one of the other ruby rifles and assists Berist to speed the process along. He cuts one hole ahead (or behind) the hole Berist is cutting, and is careful not to cross the beams.

Gimyip and Berist, spurred on by Berist's initial success, take up their shiny new laser rifles and begin cutting holes in the ceiling. They use a circular pattern, slowly and carefully boring through the stone.
After cutting a second hole, Berist's laser rifle flickers and stops firing. It looks as if the charge is expended. Berist discards the now useless hardware and pick up another, continuing his work.
In all, you expend the charges from four of the rifles. Gimyip is completing the circle as Berist turns to pick up a fifth rifle. There is a deep, heavy groaning sound from the stonework and you all back away (what you hope is) a safe distance. The ceiling collapses and dirt and rubble pile up in the middle of the room, forming a nearly perfect access to the stairs above.
Gimyip is the first to the opening and looks up to see Casal's red skin and smooth-shaven head peek over the rim of the collapse. Laconically, she say "Why is it adventurers never do things the easy way?" which you assume is an attempt at humor on her part. You're not certain, and her bland expression gives little clue. "Do you'ns need a hand up? Or are you just blowing stuff up today?"
You are, once again, struck by just how massive this gal is.

"Toss us a rope, Casal," Berist orders. "Have you seen any movement in the area? Did anyone enter the monastery after us?"
(OOC: How should we distribute the remaining laser rifles? Berist is happy to stick with his pistol, but would be glad to arm some of the hirelings. Also, do we want to continue our explorations of the monastery now that we have secured our escape route?)
