Hawklord reminded me, recently, that he created the profile pic I'm using. I know he's right, because a more complete version of it is included in one of his Dave Trampier posts; and I really love Dave Trampier. I couldn't find where anyone had made a thread like this before, so I thought it might be nice to get one started. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this point. As the title says: What is your profile pic? I promise that unless it's super plain, even at thumbnail size, some member has wondered what your avatar means. It doesn't matter if you've chosen a common image or if you've only just joined the boards or if you like to change your pic every other week like Raf;) Please share the what and why of your profile pic! edit: And/Or, your username!! Gracious, but we have some enigmatic usernames, up in here. Obviously, if your username reveals personal details, don't feel obligated to share.

My username is the name of a character I created for LARPing, back when me and my friend were kids. Pic should be obvious, but it's the art Erol Otus did for the cover of the Moldvay Basic set.

oop; almost forgot - My username is a misunderstood song lyric from Bowie's Ziggy Stardust. It should read, "...like some cat from Japan". I liked it better, my way.

Right, forgot my username too. Well, we once played a silly episode of AD&D in our youth where one of the characters (a ranger) picked up a big ham +1 as a weapon. I made up the nickname Hamurai back then, and since I still like the mental picture of the ham-wielding ranger I chose that name.

FWIW, my avatars are usually either references to the anime sword-and-sorcery classic "Record of Lodoss War", or to the "Shannara" novels by Terry Brooks. (Like right now, with the picture of Walker Boh from Dragon Magazine. Walker Boh is the central character of the "Heritage" and the "Voyage" sequences in the "Shannara" universe, and my favorite character in the series. No subliminal message there, I just love the concept of a Gandalf-style character that, at the same time he keeps deciphering the world to his, ugh, fellowship, himself keeps struggling with a severe case of PTSD.) The background to my rather "dynamic" (yeahIliketothinksoindeed) changing of my profile pictures has to do with me being a sucker for coffee break and late-evening sofa "chill-scrolling" on Pinterest, and on similar platforms. I see or get reminded of cool stuff, I want to share it. Oh, yeah, and my screenname is my real first name, obviously. I think Havard and I started using our real names when we opened the Comeback Inn, back in '09/'10. Steve from DF and Jerry Mapes, the founder of K&K if I'm not mistaken, had changed to their nicknames to their real names, I think, when they started their own pages, and so did we. - That said, as you probably know, I didn't count on the army of especially Brazilian Rafaels that apparently only has one hobby - D&D. The idea was, of course, that people would recognize me better after I switched from my screen name to my real name. The contrary has been the case because there are some people sharing the same first name. ...I guess our parents liked the same music. BY THE HOLY LIGHT

A smash up of my RL name. Avatar is the original cover I painted for the Warriors of the Red Planet RPG featuring the first modern super hero: Captain Carter, before I went with the "old school" branding I use now. My original plan for the book was going to be full color interiors, 8.5"x11", hardcover. But as time went on I realized I bit off way more than I could chew (still a problem habit) and scaled it down to a more reasonable digest sized b&w book. Otherwise I'd still be working on it...

The band Hawkwind changed its name to Hawklords for one studio album in the late 70s and I've been using Hawklord as a username since the early 90s.
My profile pic is a Jawa wearing Indiana Jones' fedora.

I'm by no means a regular poster here, but I'm a regular lurker so I thought I'd share anyway because everybody enjoys talking about themselves!
My Avatar: Spongebob, Patrick, and Mr. Krabs playing "P+P", pure awesome. I screen-shotted the pic myself from the episode, that scene only lasts a few seconds.
My username: was more-or-less randomly chosen in 2001, it's an obscure reference from an episode of the British TV series Red Dwarf ("Dimension Jump"). Turns out the word itself is not super rare as a username though, so sometimes I use 01kipper instead.

Profile pic is Michael Lonsdale in the movie Ronin, sitting at his hobby table working on figures for a diorama of the 47 Ronin.
Gnombient is a handle I started using in the early 00s, an amalgam of "gnome" and "ambient." I was (and still am) a huge fan of Gong's "Radio Gnome Invisible" album trilogy, and am also very into ambient music. I've tried retiring the username a few times, but keep coming back to it.

I'd be shocked if anyone doesn't recognize Cthulhu, but that's what it is. My username is the name of World of Warcraft character that I played for many years, which in turn was named after the evil wizard at the end of the Doom-clone shooter Heretic - spelling slightly altered because you can't have an apostrophe in a character name or username.

"Punkrabbitt" as a name coalesced a long time ago, it was my first ever online name. It still has a lot of name recognition in some circles, so I decided to revert back to it for everything now that I have a few DriveThruRPG offerings under the name Punkrabbitt Publishing.
The frabid raccoon is because I have always liked raccoons... very long story there, but as an adult, the idea of having a rabid racoon as my avatar is amusing to me.

The avatar is of Regis Moulun's satyr carrying a nekkid woman over his shoulder with one arm, and playing pan pipes with his other hand. Unfortunately, I had to cut the pic way down to get it to fit into the 150x150 pixel requirement for avatars here. (If I'd gone with the other pic I'd considered, the size requirement would've dictated that I reduce it to a bit of cleavage, so this one was the clear choice.)
I unofficially became a jester at Halloween 1993, after creating my own jester costume to go with the hat that I got at an Oregon ren faire of some sort earlier that summer. I've officially been "Bob" since I was found in an Ouroboros box under a pool table.
(Yes, another Red Dwarf fan here! I couldn't resist, had to be smeg!)

Username: Tombo is Japanese for dragonfly, known for being unable to move backwards (How's that for fighting spirit!), to which I appended the word wings (for no particular reason). Pic: the cover-art from Jack Vance's story, Mazirian the Magician, a fantasy masterpieces.

My profile pic is a pixellated version of a photo I took of a bird dropping on a pavement. The facts that I could feel the wind of its passing parting my hair, and that it was clearly a derivative of Alan Moore's anarchist V's tag inspired me to get out my (first!) digital camera and snap the pic. It's probably one of the first 10 digital photos I took.
It's Vile because I'm too young to be called Ur-Vile, and Traveller because I've been around.

My username is elvish, though I can’t remember if it’s Sindarin or Quenya. It’s a play on Gandalf’s elvish moniker Mithrandir (grey pilgrim), but swapping gray for black (mor+randir) and dropping the extra R because I think it looks better. The inspiration was the “Dark Wanderer” that your character is chasing in Diablo II; I figure Black Wanderer is close enough.
My profile pic is a bust of Epicurus, one of my favorite philosophers, though I lean more towards Stoicism these days.

I found this pic in an old zine. It reminded me of a cartoon character on an album cover Of the punk band “rich kids on L S D”
“Dicebro” refers to that friend of a friend’s big brother who came back from college and introduced the munchkins to D&D, Heavy Metal, and possibly other substances back in the 70s.
