Personally, I think we're going to see a lot of borrowings from "Dark Empire", a comic book sequel to the original trilogy that was released parallel to the Thrawn novels in the early 90s, but doesn't take place in the same continuity. Most notably, though, "Dark Empire" has been cited over and over by anyone involved with the sequel trilogy as a model for the new movies. Now, givne that the very trailer already hints at the return of a certain evil character, I'm going to assume that things take a similar course, with the next-gen characters in place of the classic heroes. I have always been fascinated by Lucas’s ESB-era 9-episode outline (I heard about it from other fans in the early 90s), which really springs off the ESB pronouncement that “There is another”. Of course, RotJ changed course, and declared Leia the “other Skywalker” but didn’t use her (if anything, Vader himself functions as the other hope), and wrapped it all up with the death of both Darth Vader and the Emperor. But circa ESB the plan was that the Emperor would not be finally defeated until Episode 9, and Luke would require help of some sort from the “another”, who would have been his sister (but would have been a new character, not Leia). I kind of like how various continuations have introduced a character in this function of Luke’s sidekick/redeemer/successor. Zahn introduced Mara Jade; Dark Empire did use Leia; and Abrams, of course, introduced Rey. After TFA, I was convinced she was Luke’s clone and therefore technically his (other) sister, cloned from his hand lost at Bespin in (of course) ESB.

But yeah, I like the Dark Empire I audio drama well enough (couldn’t get into the sequels at all). The characters don’t ring as true as in Zahn, nor do the over-the-top Force powers, but the premise makes well enough sense. The idea of Palpatine surviving by his force ghost traveling to clone bodies is totally logical, and the Prequels support it tremendously.

Do you feel it?
This cheap J.J. Abrams joke is brought to you by Lost. Because I feel super confident that he could end the series well.

1. Rogue One 2. Star Wars 3. Empire 4. RotJ That's exactly my list. There are four Star Wars movies that I like, and those are the four. All the other SW movies range from boring to meh.

I prefer the prequels, at least Episodes 2 and 3, to the current trilogy. I didn't hate The Force Awakens, but it was basically a rehash of Episode 4. The Last Jedi had me checking my watch wondering when the movie would end, or at least quicken the pace. I have the same problem with Phantom Menace, but at least I enjoyed the lightsaber combat.
I enjoyed Rogue One; I still haven't seen Solo.
Will I watch the new movie? Probably, but I'm not going to rush out to see it.

I think that 10 years after Disney releases its last Star Wars movie, Rogue One will be widely regarded as the sole gem of the lot. Granted, I haven't seen Solo yet, but I did like Rogue One. Admittedly didn't care for using high tech graphics to resurrect Peter Cushing, but overall a good backstory movie.

A brand new trailer for Star Wars IX. If I’m not mistaken, there’s a spoiler at the end of the trailer so you may want to avoid it if you don’t want those. I doubt it's a spoiler as revealing a major plot twist in a trailer would be a mistake too big even for Disney.

I hope you’re correct! If you do watch the trailer? Let me know what you think about it. Make sure you use spoiler tags, or message me directly through the board. Apparently, StarWars.com made an oopsie and accidentally revealed what the spoiler in the trailer actually was. They described it using a certain term, and once news of what was said got out, they immediately changed the article, thus confirming the spoiler was true. If they hadn't done anything, it would still be unknown if it were a spoiler or just a bad choice of words.

Can you say what the spoiler was?- Not following this sort of news, unless Frikidoctor, Spanish youtube sensation, happens to talk about it.

Let me know what you think about it. Make sure you use spoiler tags, or message me directly through the board. I seen the new trailer. They throw this crazy scene at the end of it. It looks like a huge reveal at first, but I doubt it is actually real. Something like that happened to Luke on Dagobah in the original trilogy. Its just Disney trying to freak-out the fans.
Also, here is something that might be a spoiler, but Hasbro released an action figure a new type of Stormtrooper. (I assume they were the result of Kylo Ren changing the First Order into something new.. yet ancient.) Too bad they look as plastic as their action figures. Through the description found in or on the packaging, they also revealed the destructive power of their fleet.
But don't forget: Its hard to avoid spoilers. No one can stop it. Sith happens. Moderator note: Hid possible spoilers using spoiler tag as demonstrated below --- Zenopus

Please, no spoilers unless you can hide the text. Even for the trailers - some of us haven't even watched those yet.
Also, it's not just anyone reading this thread (which isn't even tagged "spoilers") who sees these posts, it's anyone who (like myself), reads the "Recently Updated Posts" feed. It's really easy to see a post before you realize what it is.
We don't seem to have a highlighting button on this board, so I tried to hide Malcadon's text by making it very faint in color (close to the background). You can change the text color using the color wheel in the options bar when drafting your post. The color I used is font color="e62919". I also put it in brackets so you could see where the hidden text begins and ends. Highlighting the hidden text makes it visible. This works for me on desktop and mobile. Alternately you can read the hidden text by hitting "quote" and reading the draft text in the BBCode version.

Zen, You can put text into a spoiler tag like this: This is a spoiler test. Just use [ spoiler]This is a spoiler test.[ /spoiler] (remove the space after the left brackets.)

Thanks, that's perfect! I just changed Malcadon's post to use that spoiler tag.
I had actually tested out that tag for something else a few weeks ago but thought it wasn't working on this board. I now think that happened because I only looked at the effect in the Preview pane where it doesn't show up; it only hides the text once the post is submitted.

But don't forget: Its hard to avoid spoilers. No one can stop it. Sith happens. Don’t misunderstand my intent. While I’m not a big fan of spoilers, they don’t bother me. My main concern here is to try not to upset anyone else. Sorry. It was just a lead-up to a bad dad-joke.

Not opening a new thread for this, but - if only guys like this kid could get their hands on "Star Wars", instead of some faceless corporate overlords. Any news on EIX, by the way? - As far as I understand, the plot has already leaked, or something.

I don't know if you're into comic books or not, but there was a nice series titled "The Star Wars." It told the 1977 SW story but based on Lucas' earlier drafts. It was a fun read and if you're a trufan it may be worth your while to track down. Amazon had a hardbound omnibus edition, though I don't know about shipping to Germany.

The kid's got chops, but the CG facial mapping creeps me out same as in Rogue One. They've been doing this technique since the Darth Maul duel in Phantom Menace. The trick is to not overuse it or ever in a close-up shot.
I still think Rogue One is the best SW fan film.

CGI f/x ought to be the spice, used sparingly to bring out the flavor; not the main course. With regard to Rogue One? I enjoyed the heck out of it, and Solo as well. I'm sorry Disney has shelved (for the time being, at least) the idea of making more SW standalone films. I enjoyed both the standalone movies more than SW VII or VIII.

Prepare to get your hearts broken again, folks. In a good way, or a bad one? From my perspective, judging from the script leaks alone - in a bad way. Now, I'm reservedly hopeful that JJA, a self-declared fan of the series, has some idea about what he actually wants to see in such a movie, as a fan. So, the direction may save the script yet. Personally, got to be honest - I'm "over" SW, at this point: This is not for me, any more, whether the next movies get very much, or only a little bit mediocre. I've recently started reading Wendell Berry's "Port William" novels - maybe that is more age-appropriate. And, for sure, it can't disappoint me in a way that "Star Wars" did.

From my perspective, judging from the script leaks alone... I know George is not running things anymore, but I'm still weary of tricks and stunts to mask Star Wars' production, like how he used "Blue Harvest" while shooting RotJ, telling David Prowse to say "No, Obi-Wan killed your father.", and how he used "Revenge of the Jedi" to thwart bootleg merch. I have heard a number of stuff like that for other films, like multiple endings, fake scripts, false rumors, etc. Such clandestine scheming is highly entertaining by its own right.
What do Emperor Sheev J.J. Abrams have to say about this?
"Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design. The fans, out there reading the leaked script, have fallen into my trap. It was I who allowed them to find the fake script. The real script is quite safe from your pitiful little band. An entire legion of junk scrips await them. Oh, I'm afraid the actual film will be quite operational when your friends arrive at the theaters." *evil smile*

I honestly think the trailer stinks. Too many characters, all busy in their own scenes in their own vignettes, no-one relating to anyone else. Rey looks particularly robotic; she’s off being badass by herself and talking about herself. *shrug*

"Vague" news, yes, but not all-out fakes. Too many people literally depend on the leaks being accurate, via all the Youtube economy. www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsLeaks/I'm probably atypical for my age, in that I am not interested in participating in this sort of detective work/self marketing. But so many others do, the likelihood that they'll make fundamental mistakes seems pretty slim.

I honestly think the trailer stinks. To me it's okay but I don't usually pay them much mind. I hope the Leia bit isn't representative of how she'll be presented in the movie, it was an obvious outtake from VII. At any rate? I'm curious as to how JJA will wrap up this film ennead. I hate to say morbid curiousity, but the word has crossed my mind once or twice ... Frankly, that's about the same thing that I feel: Sure, I want to see how they wrap things up; but I'm okay with reading the summary on Wikipedia, at this point.
