Logan hails the man in the green apron calling out, "My good fellow! A moment of your time."
"Did you happen to see Janet Smyth in the clinic there? She was heading for the Clinic and she seems to have dropped off the face of the planet. Any help would be appreciated." says Logan

Ok to clarify on cell hacking... Electronics skill would allow hacking into active calls, trying to conceal where a call came from, trace an active call, or other activities relating to in progress calls. Computer skill is going to be required to hack into the system to find old call data. Jack-of-all-Trades of course can negate the unskilled penalty. Henry has Jack-of-all-trades, so with that and his hand computer, he'll try to find the last known position on her phone.

I'm assuming Mother and Sharron have been mustered out for about a week. I also assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that since Mother was the Engineer, she already had access to the Wayward Sun. The thread(s) started out a little chaotic, so I may have misinterpreted. Mother will just hang out at the bar and wait for folks to come back. In the meantime, she's back to trying to use her Streetwise-1 to: - Obtain any dirt on the clinic - Get a lead on some choice cargoes Sharron will follow Jack's lead.

The last known location of here phone is the Lombard Clinic, from the trace, she seems to have arrived there about 1500 yesterday and her phone was powered down at 1508.

Yea, the start of this has been a bit chaotic... That's what I get for starting you off in a bar... :-) Streetwise 8 + 1 (skill) vs 8+, she finds that folks have been known to "disappear" from the Lombard Clinic. A patron, Marcus, who may be a bit in his cups, thought he saw someone in a Lombard uniform bringing a patient to a ship that was supposedly heading for Bastinadi.

Henry relays that information to the group and then proceeds to look up a local news archive, searching for any info on this clinic. He won't get much through public records, of course, but what he might get could prove useful. At any rate, it feels more active than sitting around unable to contribute.

Logan frowns when he reads the message, "She arrived here at 1500 yesterday and her phone powered down at 1508. Nothing since. So, she did arrive. Might have obeyed a 'turn off all electronics' rule that some Clinics have, or she might have gotten in trouble at that point. Either way, it doesn't appear she left, because if she did she'd have turned her phone back on."
"I got a bad feeling about this place and we ain't even opened the door yet."

Is the street very busy in front of the apartment building? That is to say, would anyone notice (or maybe even care) if we broke into the university van?

Frank: I've changed the TL of Mother's vacc suit to 12 in my own notes, so feel free to update the Google doc.

Zeb has an auto pistol which is legal (unless you changed that up and I didn't update the Google doc). Sorry, I made a mistake in my write-up. I bought a body pistol instead of an auto pistol. I changed the write-up to auto pistol, including cost and weight.

We'd better stay alert." Do Zeb and Logan have any equipment to do the phone trace? Zeb was just doing a visual search to check out the clinic's security measures, but if he can use his electronic skill anywhere, he may try that.

(I was waiting for Makofan's input, but I'll go ahead and get the ball rolling for now)
Sharron crosses the street to the van, trying to "blend in" as inconspicuously as possible. She passes by the van and glances through the window(s) as she walks by. What does she see in the van? She'll keep walking to the corner, stop just around the building, and look back towards Jack and nod if the coast is clear (van devoid of occupants) or shake her head no if it's occupied.
If it's unoccupied, Jack can keep an eye out for curious strangers while the Leftenant digs out her lockpicks and tries to access the vehicle (driver's door if it's an open van, rear door if it's more of a delivery/box van where the drivers compartment is separate).
If it's occupied, she'll backtrack to the entrance of the building and wait for Jack to join her before going in.

I had assumed we were at the bar, holding down the table until everyone else gets back. However, we could be at the ship.

I mean we know she made it here and hasn't been seen since, so let's just ask and see what reply we get."

"Walk casual, but not too casual" he says No one is in the van. The Leftenant easily breaks into the van (11+1 vs 8+ to avoid complications while breaking in - a situation where it actually makes sense to use J-o-T as a +DM to roll). Under one of the seats is a backpack, inside is a sociology text and some notebooks with the university logo on them. In the glovebox is a pamphlet from the Lombard Clinic.

Not getting a fuzzy J'gdaren feeling about this Clinic. Let's check out her apartment. I'm guessing we'll find more swag from the Clinic there." What does the pamphlet say (general gist)? We'll close up the van and head into the building and up to Janet's apartment/room.

Do the notebooks have any writing in them? Is there anything that would identify the possessor?

Do the notebooks have any writing in them? Is there anything that would identify the possessor? They seem to be a students class notes. Poking around the contents of the bag and notebooks, it would seem the student is Frederico Gomez. The student seems to be interested in psionics. The brochure for the Lombard Clinic basically outlines it's medical services for the indigent and sings the praises of the generosity of their founder Christian Lombard.

Jack makes a note of the name, then puts it all back. "Let's go burgle" he says to the Leftenant

Jack and Sharron enter the building and proceed to Janet's apartment, watching for any sign of being followed. When they reach the door, they knock, covering up Sharron's attempt to jimmy the lock...
