You will be mustering out at the Scout Base at Ludgates. The Scout Base is on one of the many small moons orbiting a gas giant. The mainworld, Ludgates is also a moon orbiting the gas giant. Each moon is ruled by a lord (Feudal Technocracy) with some 1 million inhabitants in the underground and domed city on Ludgates. The other moons have populations ranging from 10,000 to 500,000, with a total system population of some 3 million. While the law level is rated at only 2, usually things are stricter once you get out of the star port area.
Textiles are particularly cheap at Ludgates, made from silica fibres mined from the moons. Gems are often found during the mining with low grade Cystals being more common. Radioactives are also easily found. One moon (Fizzer) produces pharmaceuticals.
Rumors:
Fizzer has started producing psionic enhancing drugs and some have been accepted into clinical trials after testing for psionic potential.
There are cities flying over the ocean at Klerkenwell. Also, Juanita Garcia, a Scout who served with Victor approaches him with an offer. On her last mission, a derelict was spotted far outsystem at Klerkenwell, unfortunately on mustering out, her number did not come up in the lottery to be assigned a scout ship. Of course this is probably highly unorthodox...
There are rumors of civil war on Cheapside.
Merkab is a hell hole.
Fogbound is a near garden world waiting for exploitation.
A business man, Sedek Aduni, is seeking passage to Koradin and then accompaniment there while he conducts inspections of his corporation's processing plants.
The Leftenant's friend Janet Smyth has gone missing. She was supposed to have gone to the Lombard Clinic for the Indigent for health care.
Runaway environment has swamped Bistron and flooded all it's cities. The Class B high port still operates. There is sure to be sunken wealth for those willing to brave the freak storms that wrack the world.

OOC: You didn't put us all together at some particular place, so I'll take a shot at it...
Logan Schmidt strolls into Brubaker's stopping just inside the door and looking around. Like most of the chain of taverns called Brubaker's in this sector...probably in several sectors...of stars the layout is the same. There is dark faux wood paneling on the walls and floor with faux leather covered booths along two sides of the large room and tables and chairs occupying the center. Along the back of the room is a long bar with stools facing it and doors opening into the back on either side. Logan guesses that the port door leads to freshers and the office and the starboard one leads to the kitchens and one or more private meeting rooms. Having had to make use of it more than once there is almost certainly a backdoor down the starboard side corridor leading into an alley. Underground here it would be into a narrow back corridor where foodstuffs are delivered and rowdy drunks are tossed out with the garbage.
The bar's stools are almost fully occupied as are the booths. It looks like Logan will have to take a seat at one of the center tables. He's not a fan of being exposed like that, but....
OOC: Let's see who is going to be here and who is going to join Logan...
Wait! There are some folks he's met before in here! Might as well join them!

Sharron has just finished relating her concerns over her friend Janet to those at the table. Mother expresses genuine concern, but she's afraid there's nothing she can do to help her (she's admittedly distracted with mental profit margin calculations for selling Ludgate textiles off-world). Luckily, before Sharron can say anything else, Irene recognizes Logan as he steps into the establishment and scans the tavern interior.
"Hasn't changed a bit," she chuckles to herself. She floats up slightly, above the crowd, and waves vigorously to him to come over, thankful for the interruption...

Sitting at the bar, Jack listens in to the conversation happening around him. If somebody needs some help, he's willing to pitch in for a cut. He decides to eavesdrop on this Logan character

Logan calls and waves as he strolls over saying with a grin, "Saw that on a holovid the other day, I think it means 'Greetings Shipmates' or some such."
"What's up?" Logan asks as he slides into an empty chair at the table.

"Not much on my end," replies Zeb. "Then again, that's been the story of my life in recent years. I just quit the Merchant service, and I'm still trying to figure out where to go from here."

"Same here." Logan says, "I've got a line on a job, though. A business man, Sedek Aduni, is seeking passage to Koradin and then accompaniment there while he conducts inspections of his corporation's processing plants."
"If we could pick up a cargo of textiles here and sell them on Koradin while escorting Aduni on his corporate tour we could get a double pay day for a single jump." Logan says with a grin, "All we need is some cash to buy the textiles here, oh, and a ship. Do we know anybody with access to a ship?"

Sharron looks around the table in disgust. Janet has been missing for over two Sun's now and no one seems to care!
While her fellow table mates palaver over petty cargoes and snobbish high passage clientele, she casually but shrewdly scans the rest of the dive. Her attention falls on Jack at the bar. "Now that is someone who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty."
She slides up to the bar next to Jack and peers at him matter-of-factly, "You look like a man in need of a mission..."

"Let's prime the pump" says Jack, nodding. "Another death juice for me, barkeep, and whatever she's having." Jack looks back at Sharron. "At loose ends, but I can shoot, drive, drink and gamble, and I stay loyal to whoever pays me. I'm not picky, but I enjoy a bit of danger"

Sharron to bar tender: "I'll have the same."
Sharron, to Jack: "Sharron. Friends call me Leftenant. You could say I'm a... soldier-of-fortune. To the point, I find myself in a bit of a pickle. I've signed on with the crew of a small tramp looking to get the hell out of here and make some cash. That is of course all well and good, but an associate of mine is missing, and I suspect foul play. I'd like to try and locate her before we depart. I could use some back-up. Don't have much to offer, except whatever we may "appropriate" from any "investigation" into the matter, but I could put in a good word with the ship's Captain if you're looking for work... or maybe just trouble." She grins impishly.

OOC: In Logan's defense, his player is going on the assumption that Logan doesn't know Janet Smyth has gone missing. I'm also not assuming that we all know each other and have offically teamed up yet. Are my assumptions wrong?

"Best offer I've had tonight, Leftenant". He laughs. "Jack Hammer, ex-Army Captain. Let's work together and see how we mesh. You can never have enough friends."

I'm also not assuming that we all know each other and have offically teamed up yet. Are my assumptions wrong? Ahh, sorry, I should have set the stage better... My thought had been that you did know each other (at least everyone would know at least one other PC), that you had served together or in some way spent time to have a degree of trust. Of course that time could have been awhile ago for everyone except Jack. But if you want to play out meeting each other that's fine too. Perhaps as you meet and talk, you find you have some good friends in common. The main thing I want to make sure is that the party comes together... Henry and Victor do know each other since they are mustering out with a shared ship.

OOC: Yeah, I think we're just winging it, and having some RP fun before things get going. I assume everyone is pretty busy over the Holidays. Personally, I'm digging all of the rumors/hooks, so I'd love to do/explore everything eventually.

On the rumors/hooks, I've got some kind of rumor or hook for each of the nearby worlds so you've got lots of options.

Since (Annual) Maintenance is free at Scout Bases at Class B starports, can we assume this has just been done? And that the ship has been fueled?
Because if that's the case, the only thing left to do is to meet up with our crew and be sure they're all here and all the requisite slots are filled.
(Since Victor is senior, Henry is taking on the role of executive officer in these things, for the moment.)

Jack says to the Leftenant "What details do you have so we can start the search, and let's rope your friends in too. Perhaps we can combine service AND profit"

Logan watches Sharron leave the table and notices her disgusted look, "What's up with Mother? Did I say something to offend her?"
Shaking his head, Logan says with a grin, "Well, anyway, to answer my own question, we have a ship! And my understanding is we're fueled up and ready to roll."
"So, anyway, what do you folks think about buying a load of textiles on spec and running it to Koradin while also escorting Sedek Aduni there and accompanying him on his inspection tour?" Logan asks, then adds, "It'll be up to Victor and Henry, ultimately, I guess."

[Mother to Logan:] "She's been telling me that a good friend of hers is 'missing'. I told her she's probably fine and will turn up soon, but she insists something is up; says she has a nose for that sort of thing."
[Sharron to Jack, with a mischievous grin:] "Let's go meet the crew, then!"

That stuff taken care of, Henry turns his attention to the smaller matters.
First, a full inventory/inspection of the ship's locker. Have they left us anything besides a broken filter mask and a dozen empty Twix wrappers?

Have they left us anything besides a broken filter mask and a dozen empty Twix wrappers? That's about the size of it. Actually the staterooms are equipped with bedding and such, and the ships locker does have various tools and such for ship repair (consider all the things to run a ship one might need that are NOT in the equipment list).

"I have nothing better do do, so I'm okay with either plan," says Zeb. "If you need another deckhand, then I'm your man. Unless you want your laundry done, that is. I had enough of that in my last job. You're on your own on that bit."

I knew there was something I was supposed to do! Sorry about that. 4 x Cutlass (400) 4 x Shotgun (600) 40 x Magazine, loaded (400) 4 x Short Range Comm (300) 1 x Radiation detector (250) 1 x Hand computer (1000) 8 x Cold light lantern (160) 1 x Pressure Tent (2000) Comes to Cr 5110.
