The process of determining HP,HD and spells is described, but not how much XP is required above the tables given. One could, I assume, simply adopt the figures given in the AD&D (1E) Players Handbook--but why would one?
So, working from the tables provided, how much XP would you determine is required for your 3 players to advance their Fighting Man/Lord, Magic-user/Wizard, and Cleric/High-Priest, to 20th level each?

I was under the impression that increased levels would require additional XP per level equal to the amount needed to reach name level (9th-level for fighting-men, 11th-level for magic-users, and 8th-level for clerics). So 240,000 xp per level for a fighting-man, 300,000 xp per level for a magic-user, and 100,000 xp per level for a cleric. Using these figures, it would require:
-2,640,000 xp beyond name level for a fighting man (2,880,000 xp total) -2,700,000 xp beyond name level for a magic-user (3,000,000 xp total) -1,200,000 xp beyond name level for a cleric (1,300,000 xp total)
Although at that point I'd probably just tell them to retire and roll up a new guy. That's just me, though.

See this thread from last year: odd74.proboards.com/thread/10828/experience-required-continued-advancementParticularly the post by Gronan: This matches what mindcontrolsquid posted above. The tables for Thieves described in Greyhawk and the first two Strategic Review classes (Rangers and Illusionists) also match this pattern of requiring name level XP for each level afterwards.
