I'm with Fin. WotC should reprint the back catalogue and retire to the Bahamas. Players locked into the 4E style wouldn't switch for old-school play so they're hardly going to be eroding their 4E market - they'd just be tapping a market that currently brings them no revenue!

Ah, yes. I guess that is ascending AC specific. We use Ascending AC in our campaign. Using my previous sheet in play, I felt that that was missing - a place that had your basic to hit bonus so I added it. Though I wanted to make the sheets as non-specific as possible, this element does push it into the Ascending AC arena of S&W. A slight flaw overall I guess. Please don't think I'm quibbling, this is my favourite S&W sheet by far. But STR + Level is not the ascending AC BTB method (which is Base attack bonus + STR or + DEX modifier). I was just curious which rules method you were using. Target 20 is d20 + target AC (descending) + mods (which might be character level) with 20+ being a hit. Which is why I thought you might be using target 20... ;D

I just see the bit that says To Hit = Level + STR bonus?

Are these sheets 'house-ruled' for Target 20?

The thing that put me off C&C was the obtuse Gaxian writing style therein...
But I did like the little white box set they put out before the Player's Guide saw light of day. That was excellent.

As you may have noticed I've been waiting for this one for quite a while...
I always new it was going to be good but it has far exceeded my expectations. Awesome sauce!

Epées & Sorcellerie Questions
I’ve just got a couple of tiny questions about this excellent game - I know I can readily make my own ruling but I’d love to learn the designer’s intent.
1. For non-human races, do the references to maximum levels really refer to maximum hit dice? The halfling example seems to indicate that it is (the character exceeds 4th level but attempts to roll his maximum hit points each time he gains a new level).
2. The attack roll confuses me a little; have I got it right?
Two warriors are fighting, they both roll 2d6+modifiers, the highest roller of the two that also exceeds the target’s armour class scores a hit.
If they both roll the same score but only one of the fighters exceeds the target’s AC, no damage is inflicted but the target is knocked back. Next round the warrior that ‘hit’ gains a further +1 bonus, the ‘loser’ gets a -1 penalty.
If they both roll the same score and they also both exceed their respective target’s AC, they both roll for damage with the lowest roller suffering a destroyed shield or weapon result but otherwise taking no damage.
Many thanks in advance
;D

Hang on, 'back in the day' there were literally dozens of clones floating about and not all of them shared common rules so that may have really muddied the water. I don't really see how the current situation is different or wrong. Stick to the kernel of D&D and we're all more or less playing the same game. Surely?
BTW. They weren't originally referred to as clones, back then they called them 'rip offs'.

I turn 46 this year... Been at it since 1981. The first flavour of D&D I played was AD&D 1, the first version I bought was Moldvay red book. Still got it too!
