Reason I ask is I picked up a set of large size foam d6 for my little girl to play with, and to use one as the escalation die for my 13th Age game.they are about 3" across each face, and were about 7 bucks for a dozen on Amazon.
The players in my teens group, upon seeing these dice, felt it would be great fun to play D&D with them, rolling them along the floor, etc. I think so too!
I could whip up some "coin toss dungeon" variant (thanks Phil!), but thought something a bit more robust would be fun, even if it is a one shot or handful of sessions.

You could just run Tunnels & Trolls. It's not technically D&D or a clone, but the base rules are a free download. It's simple to run and kids get to roll lots of d6's.

There's also Woodland Warriors. Not strictly "retro" but definetly d6 only but still very D&D.

Some good suggestions here! Thanks! I am downloading rules now! FWIW- Iam not concerned with the game being strictly a D&D variant. If it is just OSR style, ala something like Dungeon World, or Encounter Critical, for example, but utilizes D6 only, I am fine with that.

You could run OD&D using the MtM/FCT combat system; that requires d6 only.
(O course D&D uses funny dice in a few places beyond combat, but hey. You can approximate saving throws to 5+ on a d6, etc., etc.)

And Spellcraft & Swordplay, for that matter...but IME running that a few years back, the number of attacks per round really drags combat down.

IME running that a few years back, the number of attacks per round really drags combat down. By "that" do you mean MtM/FCT? If yes, I'd be interested to hear how the number of attacks with MtM/FCT differed to the number of attacks with the ACS in your game...? Or do you mean both have too many attacks?

I was referring to Spellcraft & Swordplay.

I'm a big fan of Pits and Perils, which has been mentioned on this board before. It's all 2d6 based. It's trying to clone the feel of OD&D, rather than the rules.

Justin Brown's aptly titled (and somewhat neglected) "Big Brown Book" is a strictly d6 clone of OD&D. Try the link here. But it's probably not the best for young children. I second the recommendation for Epées & Sorcelerie.

Thanks for the continuing suggestions.
To clarify, I bought the foam dice for my little one, but it is my 14 yo son, and his peers (and me!) who want to use the dice for a game.

I'm working on a standard fantasy/sword & sorcery utilizing the Woodland Warriors rules, called Towers & Tyrants.

Simon, any idea when we shall see a finished product?
After taking a looksee and some read-through.....
So far,E&S wins on charm,.and neat little variations. Great stuff.
But Swords & Six Siders wins on super simple, which for just a session or three, likely will be preferable.

Jeffb - No, not really, I'm working through it quite slowly and deliberately whilst working on a couple of other things. So it may be a while.
