How do you find the concept of level zero spells?
I think it's a real pitty that some spells get cast much less ofter because they are overshadowed by the powerful first level spells such as sleep or charm person.
I would love to see hold portal cast more often, and I think that making it a zero level spells would help to see this spell more often in game. I would also downgrade other spells to zero level such as detect magic, read magic, and some others.
What do you think? Some fun spells that are overshadowed by sleep and charm person will get cast more often.
Opinions!
EDIT: cool, I'm a Warlock!

My solution is to allow any spell to be memorized but once. An MU with 3 first level spell slots could take charm, sleep, and one other spell. But not two charms and a sleep or three sleeps. Also, undead.

I do that too! The true Vancian magic!
You are right about undead.

JRents I've not done that before, but it's always been in the back of my mind, only one spell once to force some diversification. I've always thought though that it's up to the DM to also present real reasons for the use of non-combat spells in adventures as well.
