I was going through some old things and found, wonder of wonders, the sheet on which I recorded my very first characters for D&D. I rolled up two because I was playing with my two brothers, one as DM, the other as fellow player, and we wanted enough PCs.
They were: (a) a cleric Str 12 Int 12 Wis 15 Con 9 Dex 17 Cha 17
(b) a magic user Str 10 Int 15 Wis 12 Con 8 Dex 8 Cha 12
This was 1977, using the Holmes Basic Set.
What were your first characters?

A halfling (=hobbit) fighter, IIRC. Died in the first 5-10 min. of the session run by a Killer DM. I was told that, when a PC dies, one must destroy the character sheet in a ritual, and thus I don't have it any more.

I started off playing late 2e or 3e. My first character was a gnomish magic-user called Stumbleduck.

I first played D&D one-on-one, using the Moldvay ed. rules. My friend gave me a handful of sheets of lined paper with simple fighters on them, all armed with spears as I recall. I don't know if they were even named. We only played that scenario once and the fighters never got used again, but I've been playing D&D/AD&D ever since.

My first character, using the Whitebox rules, was Nureiddin ibn Aziz el-Mokanna, the Masked Magician. He was a Chaotic Magic-User. He reached 7th Level before we ended that campaign--I think 8th Level was the highest anyone else reached.

Blackhawk the Fighter, via the Moldvay redbox. He left the Caves of Chaos with enough XP for 2nd level, the minotaur's +2 spear, and dreams of buying a loyal steed...

My first D&D character was a dwarven fighter named Hrothgar. The only notable thing I can remember from that game was that the group collectively agreed that Hrothgar should chop off the leg of our party wizard, which, while attached, was currently being digested by a gelatinous cube.

The magic-user Cedric Catweazle, impaled by a goblin spear in his first encounter in the Caves of Chaos. Don't remember the rest of his ability scores, but he had an Intelligence of 16. And he bought wolfsbane.

My first character was a fighter called Hero (hey, I was nine years old) and he got pretty high up using the BECMI rules, maybe 12th level. I think we got to "C", at least, before we switched to AD&D. I remember his character sheets weren't full sized pieces of paper; I used index cards. He made it high enough that he won his own castle and had a fairly large army. If only we had the ACKS rules back then... The next character I had was a dwarf named Arthur Giant. I'm sure there's a story behind the name but I'll be d**ned if I can remember it... Later, I remember buying some D&D Character Sheets (see below), taking one to school, and convincing my teacher to make a few copies for me and my friends on the ditto machine. I still have some of those pages, with the distinctive purple ink.

Lappoy the Unexpected, 1st level elf fighter/magic-user (AD&D), dissolved in a pool of acid in B1 In Search of the Unknown in 1979 (I think)

I'll show how young I am I suppose. I had only DMed D&D for the first 2-3 years I had played. That was with 3.5. Finally I joined an online Pathfinder game. Kuther, a dwarven fighter was my first character. He made it all the way from level 1-11 before I left the group.

I'll show how young I am I suppose. Young blood! Don't see that on an OD&D forum every day. Welcome aboard, dizzysaxophone! I'm sure I've seen that user name somewhere before ...

An AD&D 1E human magic-user named Toadwart, back around 1981-'82. I would have been about 11 or 12.
The DM (The "Bad kid" of the 5th grade, who introduced me to D&D, R-rated movies, Penthouse magazine, and his dad's old Kirby comics from Vietnam) held on to the character sheet, so it was lost when he died at the ripe old age of 14, one of the many teens over decades to be killed or paralyzed by our local "Deadman's Curve".

I think mine was a half-elf fighter/mage/thief (isn't that just the most 2e thing you ever heard?) named Darius. This would have been 1991 or so. His main groove was the acquisition and deployment of as many dragonlances as possible.

Axel the Ranger, NPC from the Zanzer Tem's Dungeon turned into a PC using D&D/AD&D hybrid rules.
Killed as soon as the party escaped from the dungeon by a stealthy T-Rex.

1. Torgon, elf Magic-user (began advancing as f/mu after Greyhawk came out). 2. Baldric, human fighting man 3. Noffham, human fighting man from the greyhawk era, only time I ever rolled 18 (00) strength.

Never really played growing up - always DM'd. My first PC came only a few years ago, when capitalbill ran a S&W White Box game here in Charlotte. Played a 63 year old 2nd level cleric named Old Man Halgron (we started at 2nd level). He drank too much, so never achieved anything in the church, and went adventuring hoping to find enough treasure for the church to get back in its good graces. Made 3rd level and died shortly thereafter, killed by hobgoblins. Good times.

I suppose my first character would be the nameless fellow who accompanies Aleena when she gets killed by Bargle in Mentzer Basic, but I think around that time I also had an Elf in a Moldvay game, called Silverglade von Blackwolf, whose hobbies included exploring ludicrous Monty Haul monster hotels.
"Silverglade" was stolen from p. 52 of Mentzer to my embarrassment.

You can see his jug o' brew down on the ground.

A halfling thief with the very original name of "Shadow"...Shadow carried three silver throwing daggers and paid to have a wrist sling-bolt thrower constructed which he concealed in the folds of his cloak sleeves.
Of course the bolt only did 1-3 points damage so I'm not sure why he bothered but to a 13 year old it seemed highly cool.

My first character was a (GH) Paladin of Odin, named Skyhawk the Mighty, lol. My first DM and ensuing campaign was total munchkin stuff, but we had a blast.

I started in 1E, about 1980. My first character was an Elf F/MU named Amalric (heh). He started with 16-18-11-16-12-14 for scores, although they were all upgraded later (well, not INT) - he made level 11/12 when the campaign ended.
My first Basic character was...an elf (F/MU, obviously)...named Amalric.
You can see where this is going!
His stats were 16-18......7-12-11-15. He made 6th level before we eventually ended our Isle of Dread campaign.
My first two characters both rolled 16 STR and 18 INT, and I've liked to play elves ever since. The dice have rarely been so kind since, of course!

A chaotic evil half-orc fighter. He was killed by one of his fellow party members in the first session. It was my first time playing with that group; I probably should have been less evil. And less chaotic.
