In The Dragon #7 (June 1977) Gary wrote an article (reprinted in The Best of The Dragon, vol. 1) entitled "GARY GYGAX ON DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Origins of the Game". In the second and third paragraphs are the following:
"...I began publishing a magazine for them [the Castle & Crusade Society] entitled Domesday Book. In an early issue, I drew up a map of the "Great Kingdon" [sic]."
"The medieval rules, CHAINMAIL (Gygax and Perren) were published in Domesday Book prior to publication by Guidon Games. Of course, they were in a less developed state, and were only for a 1:20 figure scale. Between the time they appeared in Domesday Book and their publication by Guidon Games, I revised and expanded the rules for 1:20 and added 1:1 scale games, jousting, and fantasy...When the whole appeared as CHAINMAIL, Dave [Arneson] began using the fantasy rules for his campaign, and he reported a number of these actions to the C&C Society by way of articles."
My questions:
1. Does anyone have a copy of the map of the Great Kingdom found in the Domesday Book?
2. Does anyone have a copy of the Chainmail rules as published in the Domesday Book?
3. Does anyone have a copy of any of Dave's articles in the Domesday Book regarding his campaign using the Chainmail fantasy rules?

I'm guessing not. There is some discussion aobut the Domesday Book on the Acaeum and a little information about the newsletter there. Most of what they have seems to be rumor or rememberance of 30 years ago and I think a single issue has somehow actually fallen into someone's hands for table-of-contents posting. Otherwise, we seem to know almost nothing about it. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the "Great Kingdom" was the same map as that used by the SCA, but I don't have any handy source that says this (and my memory is suspect at best on such things). I'm another of those who would dearly love to get my mitts on sucha doc, just to look it over and see what the evolution of the game was like back then. To me, this stuff is like the true "Holy Grail" of gaming.

Oh, and here's a better link if you want to see directly what the Acaeum has to say. Offhand, I don't think I've found any sites with more information than this.

Thanks for those links. Fascinating stuff.
I'd love to see a compendium volume of every page (including covers) of every issue.

Working on that. The 1st four Tomes are near impossible to find.
