So, I'm trying to make a set of pregenerated characters to run through an old module (Judges Guild's Glory Hole Dwarven Mine), for a retro burgers & beer D&D game.
The module calls for 50-60 levels, and the final fight specifically calls our the need for at least 9th level spell casting ability to be effective (what seems to be magic resistance to anything less)
Anyway, I'm making pregens at name level.
How many spells are appropriate at a given level for a 9th level wizard? I'm thinking that at every level, they gain 1 spell of every level that they could potentially cast, plus the 8 1st level spells.
For example, a 5th level Magic User would have First Level: All spells Second Level: 3 spells because they've been able to acquire one spell per level while adventuring. Third Level: 1 Spell (because they've just unlocked level 3)
I'm sure this has been done before, and I'm wondering what other people do (I found a thread elsewhere (I think in the Men and Magic subforum) which influenced the above method (though it used the chance to learn spell rules from Greyhawk)
