Wish I could have seen this as a child! "Jack the Giant Killer" has the type of stop motion special effects seen in the early Sinbad movies but I like it. Some great and imaginative sets and costumes, the court of the evil prince is comprised of demons and witches and trollish creatures, and the wardrobe is stellar. It evokes the stage, like so many films from the sixties. Hope someone enjoys it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfCyFeI5dNA&feature=related

There is a great article on this film in Cinemagic #34. Basically the studio wanted a Harryhousen like childrens adventure film. It stared off great but was virtually ruined by executive interference. The cinematographer and set designers had a dark and scary idea in mind for Pendragon, but were overruled during production because the studio execs demanded bright lighting to allow for down the road television broadcast on limited B&W TV's. They also decided after filming was over to make it a musical and post dubbed singing into the actors spoken lines - especially for the Leprechaun and the viking IIRC. Fortunetly you can get an original version without the dubbed in songs.
This film is one that could be restored to an "artist intent" version (particularly with lighting) using modern digital effects and I've often wished that would happen cause its a pretty good story overall.
